Candela Taco Bar & Lounge is a casual Mexican restaurant with fresh food and a fully stocked bar. Head Chef Maria Lopez created the restaurant as a way for guests to learn about authentic Mexican cuisine. The restaurant's menu is crafted to showcase all aspects of the country's culinary culture, as well as showcase some of Lopez's own unique takes on classic dishes.
There is an incredible selection of recipes available at Candela Taco Bar & Lounge, with over 20 different kinds listed, as well as a separate daily specials menu. Tacos are served a la carte and sorted by protein. The restaurant also carries an ever-changing collection of small-batch tequilas, which are then used to concoct specialty cocktails, aqua fresca or fresh fruit drinks. The best way to end a meal at Candela Taco Bar & Lounge is with one of the signature desserts, like the sweet yam flan.
The menu was the biggest attraction.. Whoever came up with the idea to front this Latin club with food service was brilliant. Not what you would expect from a typical bar trying to dish o it food. Service was excellent and the food was even better.
The space is quite small which is what probably lends to the amplification of everyone speaking that the noise level was the thing you noticed most. If you can deal with that you will really enjoy your food. Food and cocktail prices are very reasonable.
Decided to make dinner reservations based on reviews I read and was glad I did. Four of us enjoyed fantastic food in a very nice, casual setting with fantastic service. I had enchiladas which came with a delicious, smokey and spicy dark red sauce - excellent. We enjoyed house margaritas that were not watered down nor did they skimp on the tequila. The one drawback was that the four of us were seated at a bar table normally used by two people rather than four so table space was cramped and elbow room was non-existent. No reflection on the food or service as both were outstanding. We'll definitely be back.
Great neighborhood find.
I'd made a reservation for 11 and the table was ready when we arrived. Great staff took food and drink orders and made great suggestions. Everything arrived at the table hot and with the correct changes or substitutions requested. There was always a wait staff member nearby to help us.
The best Mexican food and love the asparagus soup! Great service and made great accommodations for my big party of 8!
Finger licking good tacos, every kind we tried was a hit with my somewhat picky group.
Drinks are yummy. We will definitely go again. Friendly service. It's a very noisy place for our old ears though.
Food was good. Service was exceptional. And ambience was nice. Very reasonable pricing and a really good selection on the menu.
Flat screen TVs in all directions. So every seat has a great view of TV. So great to watch sporting events. I had 4 different tacos. All 4 tacos were excellent. Wife enjoyed a couple of tacos and the ceviche. The service was a little poor considering the few tables that were occupied. Charging for a second basket of tortilla chips was disappointing since they caused the delay in getting our food. I would still recommend this place because of the food and TVs.
We are regulars on Wednesdays the only day they open for lunch and offer $1 tacos. Not only is it a great deal but the service is always fantastic. It is a family run business and the staff makes you feel like you are part of their familia. Go for the tacos...stay for the margaritas!
We loved the guac, taco tour, and service was fine, but it was SO LOUD we couldn't hear each other talking from across the table.
I don't know if its the acoustics or people were loud but it was almost unbearable. And it wasn't even late, it was a 6:30 dinner on a Sunday.
great tacos a great prices! AMAZING! Being born and raised on Los Angeles I have a very picky high expectation for mexican food and this place did not disappoint. The tacos were delicious and very reasonably priced! and the Coctel e camaron was like a party in my mouth.. it is a must try!
Really enjoyed the tacos - we ordered a bunch - and they were all delicious. The fish tacoswere my favorite
Good food for a good price...fun for a ladies night out!
Great food and delicious skinny margaritas!!!!
Love this quaint mexican gem--it is right next door to a salsa club and you can enter from Candela to the club--so convenient.
This was my second visit and plan on returning. Not a big place, so we had to keep our group to not more than 10 (really 8) 10 is pushing it.
Food was great. Service was very attentive.
I would definitely recommend Candela! The food was great and the service even better. We were a party of 10 going to see a show at the El Rey Theater. The staff was very attentive and made sure we were taken care of.
Very small, very loud, and more sports bar than restaurant, this was not at all what I was expecting. But we had made a reservation and we were here and it was Saturday night so we wouldn't be able to get into anywhere else without a reservation, so we stayed. And I am glad we did!
The food was amazing. Four salsas served with chips as we perused the menu. The star of the menu is the taco bar - choice of about 12 varieties: vege, meat, chicken, fish. The menu offered a range of choices from tacos and enchiladas to shrimp, steak, fish across a wide range of seasonings. Sangria & Margaritas very good. I'll be back but NOT for a quiet romantic evening.
