My wife and I were excited to try the Canal House Station restaurant for lunch today after reading a promising review and looking at the menu. The interior is very attractive and historical, with beautiful wainscotting and old pumpkin pine flooring. The chairs are a better choice for seating than the banquettes with pillows. The lunch menu has fewer than ten items, but there is a suitable range of choices with interesting ingredients and preparations. Our first suspicion of trouble in the kitchen was our forty-minute wait without any explanation or refills on water or coffee. One entrée arrived first, a blini with soft scrambled eggs, caviar and smoked salmon that was well-prepared and presented. The second entree, a fried chicken sandwich sliced in half, arrived with an obviously uncooked interior. The chicken was not pink, it was raw throughout the middle and dangerously inedible. Since there was no server available, we had to go to the kitchen and inform a cook ourselves. We were offered another choice, but after being served raw chicken, we declined. This is an inexcusable error that shows poor chef skills and irresponsible kitchen management. I will not go to a restaurant that puts our health at risk. We were offered a free meal and apology by the server, though it was not her fault. This is exactly the kind of mistake that requires an apology by management. We tipped the server the equivalent of the meal we ate and will never go to the Canal House Station again.

We loved the professionalism of the staff. We were greeted with a confirmation of our dietary restrictions which felt very personal. Our anniversary was celebrated with a non alcoholic sparkling tea, which was delicious. The menu was lovely and the food was well presented. We loved the decor in the dining room and the kitchen. The biggest downside was the large, loud party of 10 whose voices carried throughout the dining room and inhibited conversation for all other guests. There are no sound absorbing mechanisms in the restaurant and the noise level really did detract from the otherwise wonderful meal.

Delicious food and tremendous overall experience. The staff and owner/chefs are friendly and inviting. The space is spectacular - we ate outside. I love the beautiful red bud trees and flowers. The food is delicious and presented beautifully. Overall, it is like being transported to a friendly restaurant in Provence.

Without a doubt the best restaurant in Bucks County. The service is superb, the menu is inventive, the flavors outstanding, and the presentation on the plate is beautiful. This restaurant rivals any of the best restaurants here in New York City.

We LOVED our fist dine in experience at Canal House. The ambience, thought and care that went into creating that place is so evident. My only suggestion would be to improve the entrees. I like the prix fixe, limited selection format.....just think the craftsmanship of the entrees could be improved and doesn't quite match the rest of the experience. This is only a small suggestion.....as overall.....this was a real PLEASURE. PS) The special mussels were out of this world!

In a most perfect country/urban setting, we so enjoyed the wonderful spring day with the potted plants, blooming trees, and wonderful fried chicken sandwich served with deviled egg and pickle spear. One had the salmon/egg salad halved sandwich which tasted as good as it looked. Our server was attentive but not overly so. This is our second visit and we will certainly make the trip again!

So long as you understand the concept, several small set courses, with a few choices for entrees, you will have a grand time at the Canal House Station. The atmosphere is lovely, the proximity to the Upper Black Eddy/Milford Bridge, which spans the Delaware in a particularly scenic spot, is quite charming. As are all the design details in the restaurant, a converted station with a particularly handsome kitchen, lovely outdoor seating, and dining rooms with comfortable seating, nice tableware, and beautiful floral displays. The service is warm, prompt, and friendly. The food is fabulous, short on pyrotechnics and avant technique (thankfully), and long on flavor and balance. If you're familiar with the rhythm and sweep of the Canal House cookbooks (which you should be), you'll instantly know what the food is about: recognizable ingredients, rendered to their platonic ideal, with absolutely no frippery or fuss. The soups are especially rewarding - we've had carrot and turmeric soup whose balance gave the delight of settling in for a good concert. The spring pea soup was a glorious snapshot of this moment in mid spring, with a winsome "plop of whipped cream and chives." I've twice had duck confit, perfectly crisp, alongside a tasty cassoulet of beans. Desserts are transporting - we've had a chocolate and kumquat marmalade tart that danced the bittersweetness/citrus line with tremendous grace and dynamism, and a pavlova, crisp, with a pleasing marshmallow texture inside, topped with red-wine stewed rhubarb. The pandemic has made me weary of tweezer food - I do get why it can all be so captivating and poetic and the like, but things have gotten so expensive, and we've all probably gotten better in our own kitchens. The delight of an evening at the Canal House is the (seeming) simplicity, the warm hospitality, the tremendous value (it's BYO - don't ever change!), and the everything-is-so-right-ness of it all.

Every dish is perfectly cooked, seasoned and presented and the flavors of the ingredients allowed to shine. This time included the most "fresh pea" tasting pea soup ever. And how does anyone make a deviled egg taste so good?

Supurb food, with pleasant overall service, but clearly slower service, a way too long wait between first and main courses, in the small ante room where it was noisy, often really difficult to talk across the table

What a spectacular meal! I met a girlfriend there (both dining there for the first time), and we were impressed with each and every course. Honestly, the BYOB aspect was just a plus... it kept the entire meal (even with added appetizers) at a more reasonable price point. We will most definitely be back in the warmer weather to check out the patio. (Minor suggestion from a gardener: since the lot next door which is within view of your patio is dilapidated, if you're allowed, you might consider planting some hardy perennial blooming vines along the fence line separating the lots - like honeysuckle perhaps. It would not only screen some of the mess and but it would add a nice fragrance to the air as well).

Restaurant is BYOB and is in a former train station. Dinner was delicious! Green olives and spiced pecans were served first, followed by toast rounds with mild chevre and a creamy, curried red lentil soup with a swirl of sour cream. Main course was a tender, generous portion of pork schnitzel topped with greens. A bittersweet chocolate shell filled with a smooth chocolate mousse topped with fluffy whipped cream was our dessert. We enjoyed our dinner and the atmosphere of the restored train station, and look forward to returning.

Lovely location and restaurant. The menu was interesting but not very creative, given the prices. The service was fine, very friendly and positive but noticed that a table seated after us was served prior to our giving our order and receiving our dishes. I wish the website was more explicit about BYOB; after the lengthy drive up there, we were anticipating some wine with our meal.
