Christopher Hirsheimer and Melissa Hamilton—the women behind Canal House Station—are cooks, writers, and artists. In 2007 they founded Canal House, which includes a publishing venture and a culinary, photography, and design studio. Their cookbook "Canal House Cooks Every Day" received a James Beard Award in 2012.

In 2019, Christopher and Melissa opened Canal House Station, a hidden gem tucked into an elegantly restored 1870s train station on the banks of the Delaware River in Milford, NJ. Their idiosyncratic, modern American cuisine is inspired by local ingredients that are ripe and in season in Hunterdon and Bucks County. They are two women, cooking together, and sharing their love of gathering people around the table to eat good food. They have been nominated twice for a James Beard Foundation “Best Chef: Mid Atlantic” award.

Canal House Station offers "Sunday Dinner" every Sunday. It is available for Private & Corporate Events, and Celebratory Gatherings throughout the year.

    Casually elegant setting in a refurbished historic train station. Exceptional food preparation and presentation, with excellent service. Menu is limited prix fix, which may not suit all but we loved it!

    Best food and experience by far. Timing cadence of courses was perfect, staff very friendly, food top notch! We brought our 9 year old son and he loved everything as much as we did!

    Classic food served and prepared PERFECTLY. Would highly recommend if you like that days menu. Charming building, area has lots of interesting shops. BYOB if that matters to you

    No one presents food with such outstanding simplicity....always delicious. Staff is very professional, paying attention to your every needs. And I can carry on a quiet conversion without yelling across the table to my wife. Highly recommend for people who love good food without the drama.

    What an incredible meal! We loved the starting plate of the fresh vegetables. The mussels were perfection. The chicken stuffed with mushrooms was as impressive as it was delicious. A fresh salad followed - crisp lettuce! And for dessert..strawberries with cream and sweet shortbread cookies - a summer classic. Such a special night for us to catch our breath and eat together. We didn't have a chance to chat with the chef when we were leaving as another table was already expressing their gratitude! But, thank you so much, Canal House Station! We can't wait to come back.

    Did not expect a three course meal when I made the reservations but the salad and dessert complimented the main courses both my wife and I had. My wife had the Halik and I had the lasagna both were delicious and well presented.

    I expected the food to be Michelin quality based on reviews I had read was not anywhere close to that I’ve had Michelin quality meals, all around the world, but rarely in the Philadelphia New Jersey area. Sad to say the food was mediocre and pedestrian and this was his opinion shared by my two guests who are true gourmet’s my wife and son both being Chinese. I assure you the Chinese know a thing or two about fine dining and gourmet cooking my wife who is born in China and is one of their leading attorneys and who has died in the most interesting restaurants, Café, and even from local street carts has quite a refined pallet. I have shared many non-Chinese restaurants with her. I would not recommend this restaurant to our friends said to say, I hoped for a different experience.
