Canal Bistro - Mediterranean Grille
George says. "It's been our dream to open our own place, to be creative with cuisine, and to have a family business that our sons can be a part of."
The Canal Bistro is that dream. "It's like you've come to one of our parties -- we've basically just moved our kitchen from home to here," they say. "We put the grill in the dining room because we want people to know that we are using top quality ingredients, and that freshness is our goal, so everything is done right in front of you."
So eat up, relax, be happy. You're eating in a dream come true!
Food was terrific! Very friendly, fun service. Great lunch! Enjoyed being able to hear each other when conversing - seems a rare thing at many restaurants today!
Great food! Nice atmosphere. Friendly staff. Also, they have parking and on Saturday night, they had someone outside directing people to parking spaces and stopping traffic so people could cross the street.
Loved the experience overall!
My new fav restaurant! 😊
Canal Bistro is one of our favorite "go to's" in Broad Ripple. The patio is great, the food consistently good, and service excellent. For all of us GF types, there are a few addl entrees that are also GF that aren't indicated as such on the menu so just ask.
Our meal was wonderful. We enjoyed a variety of items from the feta fries and the beet salad, to lamb K-Bobs, moussaka, and stuffed peppers. The service was excellent, and the staff friendly. We really enjoyed sitting outside by the canal!! We will definitely return for another visit!
We loved it! We enjoyed our meal thoroughly and can not wait to go back. I’ve already picked out what I am going to order for brunch! We dined outdoors overlooking the canal and it was absolutely delightful!
Food and service was good. It was a little hot in the restaurant.
Our visit was enjoyable. We got a table on the patio which was good. The cocktails were really good and the service was great. My food was disappointing. We got the feta fries and bana ghanoush for appetizers. The former really didnt have much flavor and the latter was of a runny consistency. I had the gyros platter and the meat was over-cooked and dry. I must say that others in the party enjoyed their food. This was my first time and plan to come back again to try out as anyone could have an off night.
pleasant location with good parking. Poor acoustics so very noisy. Typical Greek menu. We found lamb kabobs and shank were extremely tough. Should have furnished steak knives. Excellent service with many available staff
Jessica helped us make great food and drink choices. I am so pleased with our time there!
Always a great time at Canal Bistro. The servers are great and food is 👌
Food was great, but the A/C was struggling and it was very hot
Only complain was there was a a fly or two running around I know with the heat and summer it can happen but still something to look out for
Canal Bistro is a great place to eat. Friendly atmosphere, great tasting food and very generous portions. We love it.
My husband and I had not been here in a few years. We were disappointed in the food. The dipping sauce for the bread was tasteless. My “upgraded” Greek salad had one olive, small cube of feta cheese and piece of cucumber. The meat from my gyros platter was delicious, but the rice and rest was unremarkable. My husband had the lamb kebab and the meat was tough. Great decor but I would not return as the food was very mediocre.
If I could select all “zeroes,” I would. Formerly one of our favorite restaurants, we’ll now never return.
We arrived on time for our reservation and requested outside seating. The owner & hostess said they were about to clear lots of outside tables, but we needed to wait at the bar. No problem. But we noticed while the patio was packed there were maybe four occupied tables inside the restaurant. We sat at the bar, were greeted by the lovely bartender & looked at the cocktail menu. We picked our cocktails but didn’t have time to order because the owner & hostess came to say our patio table was ready.
They led us to our outside table which was merely ok because it was right at the entrance & a bit awkward. Again, no problem. A waiter came by several minutes later & said he’d be right with us. Another several minutes passed and he brought plates & silverware. And that’s when it just declined.
A couple (with their dog of course) came in several minutes after us - him first, then her with the dog. The dog got served water & the couple had about three staff descend on them with table settings, bread, etc. Meanwhile, we’re still waiting for anything.
Another 10 minutes passed & I went into the restaurant to the host stand which has a DIRECT sight line to our table. No hostess but at least four wait staff at the prep bar. None asked me what I needed. Finally a charming busboy/server passed me, double backed & said I’d be seated in a minute. I said I’ve already been seated but would appreciate actually being served. He apologized & got the owner.
Instead of apologizing for our experience, the owner just stood there while the waiter LAUGHED AT US. We left & said never again.
The charming parking attendant realized we were upset, described the jerk waiter to a T and said it happens all the time.
From a former favorite to now telling as many people as possible to AVOID Canal Bistro at all costs.
Good food, good service. Nice atmosphere to meet with friends and enjoy good conversation.
The atmosphere is lovely and unique, and the food was amazing! We'll definitely be returning :)
Eveverything was good except the lamb in the gryo platter and sandwich was overcooked and dry.
We had a great meal and the freedom to stay as long as we wanted while visiting. Service and attitude were great. Food was top notch.
Excellent in all respects. Authentic Mediterranean fare served in a relaxed atmosphere. A really great meal.
Fantastic food, service, and experience...our first time there, but definitely not the last! Don’t miss the olive appetizer. Our party enjoyed the chicken schwarma , moussaka, beef kebab, and stuffed peppers. Everyone was quite happy with their selection. The house Italian vinaigrette on the house salad is amazing! We enjoyed patio seating on a beautiful June evening. Our server was outstanding.
Service was wonderful. Portions are quite large wish I’d either shared my dinner or not ordered an appetizer. We’ll surely go back.
Main entrees, appetizers, desserts and drinks were all wonderful and plentiful. I do wish the water had ice in the bottles. I'd definitely go back! Glad to support a locally owned restaurant
Service was okay - but then again it was a Saturday night. Grape leaves are some of the best I have ever enjoyed. Gyro platter was equally as good. Saganaki was good - but they couldn’t flame it because the restaurant was so busy - and it just didn’t taste as good as a flamed version. My wife’s penne pasta dish was less than good. Baklava was over the top delicious- huge portion - a party of 4 can easily enjoy. Don’t be fooled by the lower than average wine prices. The wines are good and don’t reflect their ratings found on Vivino.
From the owner to all of the servers, they try to make your experience wonderful.
Food is really good, and plenty of it.
Lovely setting by the canal
We had a nice time. Food was okay, but we've had better. Ethan was a great server. Knew when to be there and when to leave us alone. Great outdoor seating and nice view of backroads Broad Ripple!
Awesome food and staff! Love, love the saganaki cheese. I recommend Friday nights during the Summer because you can catch the live music from the canal. You’ll love it!
this was mothers day dinner and the meals , lamb chops, and beet salad were outstanding. the service person was very knowledgeable and enjoyable to visit with.
Consistently delicious food. One of my favorite restaurants in Indy!
I had the Moussaka and it was absolutely tasteless. There were also pieces of bone and sinew in the meat. It really missed the mark. I would have sent it back but I was the guest of my friends. I think you really need to know this as it is the iconic dish of Greece and deserves to be represented well. Also the salad was lacking and lettuce tough. I will add that my friends Salmon dish according to him was good.
Out standing food outstanding service beautiful restaurant they and tastic food
Top notch service, quality food, and fair prices make Canal Bistro one of the very few restaurants that I will patronize and recommend to my friends.
Great food! Great service! Great atmosphere. I highly recommend.
Good food and fantastic location on the canal. Recommend the flaming cheese.
Fantastic experience. We had a special dietary requirement in our group and they were so accommodating and kind! Professional excellent service couldn’t be better! Food delicious and fresh. Plenty of food for the price- even more than expected. Highly recommend
Nice atmosphere, good food, reasonably priced, good service.
This is our favorite Mediterranean restaurant - Their Baba & warm pita is always the first thing we order! We are never disappointed. Can’t wait to sit outside along the canal soon!
Food and drinks were great. Even the vegetarian in the group enjoyed the food. The stuffed Dolmathes. Are vegetarian and so good.
Excellent service and nice ambiance! Saganaki was delicious. Spanikopita was small and a little over cooked. Enjoyable experience overall.
