Excellent food and beautiful view. I ordered the Blue crab rice & Prawns. It was delicious, however only came with 3 prawns and although they told me it contained blue crab I couldn’t find even a tiny amount. When asked, they told me it’s shredded and in with the rice, however I was unable to find even a tiny spec of crab. Overall, great service, delicious food but way too expensive.
Amazing place service and quality was great
Great food and great ambiance and great place for a date.
Although I had to choose from a fixed menu (because of the pandemic), I had a good dinner with my family. The service was excellent - great dedication and response.
Got to our reservation and they told us they were closed
I don’t even know where to start, so I won’t waste your time with the details.
Just — keep your expectations very, very…very low.
The experience you’re expecting: Dignified, courteous, pleasant.
The experience you get: Disorganized, discourteous, underwhelming, and inextricably arrogant.
We have traveled and dined in nearly 40 countries (nothing to brag about, just setting the tone), and our experience here was by far and away the worst that my wife and I can remember. Like, almost comically bad. Except that we love this island and hate that this is the representation of the best of Puerto Rican hospitality.
So just know — this is *not* a good representation of PR hospitality. This is hubris, pomposity, and dispensation wrapped up to look pretty for those that don’t know better.
Don’t let them fool you.
While the food was okay, this was a ridiculously expensive meal for what we got. I appreciate that it was New Year’s Eve, but I was not at all impressed for the accolades this restaurant has received. Service was simply blah. Just not an email impressive experience.
Wonderful staff and great food. They actually knew what gluten free was and did a great job at making me feel confident eating there.
On vacation. Staying at the on-site hotel- El San Juan hotel. We had a great server, Roberto. He was very accommodating. They had a buffet the night we were there due to COVID staffing shortages. The food was very good. They had fish and some vegetarian options, but our server went into the kitchen to get a substantial salad for the vegetarian in our group!
The setting was gorgeous and just what we had been looking for. We had thought we were getting a 4 course Chef's Prix Fixed, but it turned out to be a buffet. The food was pretty good, but some of it would have been better had it been served from the kitchen instead of from a chafing dish. It may be that the shortage of staffing resulted in this change to a buffet, but we probably would not have come that night had we known.
Every restaurant at the Fairmont El San Juan is sub par. To say that the menu options are limited is a major understatement. It’s like the hunger games at this hotel, which includes Cana. The staff is doing everything they can to be accommodating, but it is quite clear that there is a management problem.
When we went, they only had buffet style (which we weren't informed of ahead of time). There were very few options at the buffet, too. Not worth the price.
We went to this restaurant specifically for the Taste of Cana six course meal. They were out of all fish and mofongo. We ordered from the menu from what was available and the food was pretty good. The prawns were delicious. They offered all of the tables free dessert because of the lack of food. They were very short staffed, but our waiter was great.
There were 16 of us and we were split into two tables but near each other so it worked out. The server was very knowledgeable and attentive until the restaurant became busier and service slowed down. The food was very good but very small portions and it came out lukewarm. Everything at Cana is outrageously expensive, down to a $12 glass of lemonade and a $20 glass of Don Julio tequila. And the dishes don't come with any sides. So for what you're paying, there's not a lot of value. Deserts were just ok. If you want a good meal and don't care about price, I recommend trying it out.
Great setting, food was delicious. Would go again.
Most beautiful setting, fantastic and Uber professional server Veronica. The most disappointing and EXTREMELY OVERPRICED food. We had reservation for 7 ppl , paid over $700 and wanted to cry after we saw the fish or appetizer presentation. Over cooked pieces of salmon and mahi mahi just places on the plates without ANY garnish. Sauces for fish and meat came in in 3oz PLASTIC (!!) cups - as per take out, not as you would expect when paying $100 per person for dinner.
First plate with appetizers was a disaster as well. Piece of egg Frittata (about 2 oz! for 7ppl!!!) without chive sauce (as advertise on the menu) - they just served a small piece of it, dry and sad. 2 pieces of breakfast pastry (!!)
They were cinnamon pancakes which were on the menu were never brought in…
Rice and farro plates came in 20min before the protein not sure why. So once the fish and meat came in - we were nearly full. Just really bad system.
Bad bad bad. Fairmont is a very upscale hotel. Beautiful place but terrible food presentation and Organisation. Not recommending. And very disappointed.
Food was a little bit cold when it was served at the table. Our waiter was amazing...excellent service !!
Christmas Day Brunch for $79 per head was a huge disappointment. The brunch menu printed on a fancy menu card was a front to an awful dining experience. It was advertised as a 4 course table shared menu. How could a restaurant justify serving a plate of traditional appetizers (first course), rice and beans, a banana salad, avocado and papaya salad, a few very small pancakes and a pile of fish and meat dumped on a plate as a special Christmas menu. There were 4 pieces of sliced dry meat on a plate (1 slice per person) and a granted a good sized portion of salmon and mahi mahi with a red sauce un appealingly placed in front of us. If the food was tasty it may have lessened our feeling of being cheated at this high end hotel restaurant. Sad to say it was an embarrassment to me having taken my family there for a special Christmas Day meal.
Christmas Brunch was very low quality. Not near what I expected. Very overpriced.
Very good waiter & great seats looking over the pool and ocean.
This was our second try at this restaurant and once again it disappointed. They were not ready for our reservation but did accommodate us about 20 minutes later. They claimed our first beverage was on the house due to the delay but we were charged for it anyways. Our server and service was great but the food not so much. Every single dish, regardless if it was meant to be hot or cold was slightly warmer than room temperature. We finally mentioned it after our main dish included fish and beef were brought out. The fish was cold and the meat over cooked and cold. They did try to make it right but this place is too expensive for a subpar experience on such a special occasion.
Overpriced. Slow service. Mediocre food. Did I say overpriced and mediocre? Wouldn’t recommend.
Wonderful food and service. It was the best dinner we had the whole trip.
We went for Christmas Eve dinner. It was an expensive prix fixe and the food was fine. Nothing special. For the price, definitely not worth it.
Good was excellent!! Value great!! But for a Xmas eve!! There was not even Xmas music on the background… very boring. We were a party of 8 and we were expecting a like bit more of ambiance!
We had a reservation for Christmas Eve dinner, but an unexpected situation made impossible for us to make it. We called the restaurant, and asked if we could have the special dinner to go. Not only they accepted to offer the diner to go, but they managed to deliver it to our car outside the hotel. The service was outstanding, the girl who help us with the dinner was so nice and helpful. But more important, we had their Christmas dinner at home, and we all loved the taste of everything they offered. Classic puertorrican Christmas dinner but with exquisite flavors. Thanks for helping us to have our special dinner at home. We definitely plan to go back and enjoy the food at the restaurant very soon.
Restaurant was running extremely behind schedule and could not set us at our reservation time, but only 30 min later. They did provide us with a mimosa for the inconvenience.
Food is not good, this might be just personal preferences, but the service is just bad, wait for a long time to get someone to respond.
The food was delicious, and our server was knowledgeable and helpful. Took an hour to get our food, because they are short servers. And they were out of food due to staff shortage. The servers there were working hard with a smile. Food is twice the normal price, but I guess you expect that at a resort. If you are willing to wait, the food is good!
Creative and unique dishes that fuse the traditional PR fare with ingredients not normally found in PR dishes. Shrimp al ajillo was outstanding. The Ñame with the shitake mushrooms was unique. Everything was delicious and our waiter Feliz was the best! Bread pudding is a must have along with the the coconut dessert!
The chefs menu was excellent and the wine pairings were fabulous.
The food was outstanding. We opted not to have tasting dinner as it was too much food for us. We ordered tomato and watermelon salad, yams and wahoo. All amazing. The service was strange. After practically being rushed for our order, we did not see the server for over 30 minutes. Then all three orders came at once. Plus, music was loud.
Delicious food and amazing service!
Over rated , too expensive for food portion and size
Good food and service
The restaurant was clearly overbooked and the staff overwhelmed. It took 25 minutes to receive a fourth glass of water for our party of four. We were not asked again if we cared for additional drinks. It was a set Thanksgiving menu served family style without serving utensils, each serving with their own. The green beans were substituted with cold broccoli and we were not served the promised cranberry sauce, eggplant nor the mango pie, yet still charged the same price. It was not the wait staff, who were trying their best, but overall a very disappointing experience for a hotel of this caliber.
The last three times I've visited any restaurant in the Fairmont hotel have been terrible. They clearly have a staffing shortage and are not willing to adjust reservation numbers to compensate for that fact. The staff seems poorly trained as well. As a result the service is suffering but the management does not seem to care. This used to be a great restaurant and hotel but they really need to figure out their business model.
Thanksgiving Dinner!! Special occasion? No one of the worst dining experiences we have ever had. We had 730pm reservations but they did not seat our family if 6 until 8:10pm. It was a set family style menu, when they started bringing our food it was 9:12pm and we were told they were out of everything but Turkey, rice and sweet potatoes. They did not have any of the other 13 items we were to get. We were told they over booked the reservations by 100 people?? The waiter only came to our table twice, the bus boy was the one who told us about the lack of food not even our waiter? The set price was $80 per person for nothing! They did nothing to held make this right on a once a year special occasion.
Reservation at 7pm for “Thanksgiving Experience” expensive dinner. Waited and seated at 7:35. Didn’t get a waiter for water for 15 minutes then food past 8pm. Biggest waste of money. At least give customers a free drink or something.
Overbooked and slow service
