Campton Place Ratings and Reviews
Awesome 3 course lunch with wife to celebrate our anniversary. They greeted us with the typical Taj welcome. Overtly courteous staff and the chef complimentary soup and the anniversary cake just nailed it. A michelin star restaurant with perfect Indian mix of spices and experimental touch of puffed rice on some of the dishes added to the beauty. The royal champagne collection was nothing to complain about. Totally enjoyed the portion size. Would definitely come back again.
Not the standard of a michelin 2 stars. 1 dish was good, the rest of the tasting menu was disappointing: tomato salad really? Apart from the food, the rest is really not a michelin star standard: poor table setting with plastic table set, poor service with noone helding the chair for you, a lot of traffic as the kitchen is also used for other restaurant of the hotel..
The food was truly special. The chef not only provides wonderful layers of flavors but adds many textural elements to add to the experience. The vegetarian offerings were the best I’ve seen. The buttermilk fried mushrooms were the fav !! But everything was great.
Impeccable service, ambiance, and food creativity & quality gives Taj Campton Place Restaurant a consistent perfect score from me & my wife. This is a place to eat at for special occasions. We always have the vegetarian tasting menu and it is wonderful. If you want the best food and service, this is where to go. This is always one of the best dining experiences.
Service: Taj Hotels owns this, & is a leading Indian hotel chain. Their service is perfect & staff are trained to make you happy. The service at this hotel is no different. Expect the best. The staff are really focused on you & they will cater what they serve to your dietary needs.
Ambiance: Nice quiet but not stuffy atmosphere. The seating area is limited. You should plan on spending 2 or more hours here depending on the # of items you want in the tasting menu.
Food: The food served here is upscale, with unique items, & many items that are Indian fusion. This is the place to eat if you want to try items you will not get anywhere else. The food comes in small portions & they will bring it to you at the pace you want. The creativity and quality is great. The menus change seasonally. They also accommodate special diets, but best to let them know in advance. As of Nov 2016, they have moved to having a standard 7 course tasting menu, which ends up being like 10 courses.
My wife & I have their vegetarian tasting menu several times, & have no regrets. We also added some of their truffles to one dish, had non alcoholic Navarro wine, vegetarian cheese, lassis, & mint lemonade. On another occasion, they created a special menu for my wife's birthday that was incredibly good. They time when they bring each item & most are small, but by the time your 2 hour dining experience is over, you are full.
This is truly one of the top restaurants in the world. Chef Srijit is great!
I went here for my birthday and it was amazing. Great food -- really creative. Excellent service, good value. The best meal I ever had. Wow. We had the animal protein tasting menu, which had Halibut, Lobster, Lamb, as well as yogurt, many spices and new twists on dishes I can't recall. For dessert, white chocolate ice cream and a pudding. Amazing bread with avocado butter. The Lamb was cooked so that all the flavor was inside it but it wasn't too raw or bloody -- I'm very picky with that. Appetizers were inventive, tasty, and fun. Really the food was very creative and flavorful. Overall the portions were just right. An amazing place -- highly recommended. It was also quiet and intimate. Kudos to the wait staff and kitchen, this was a wonderful birthday and a memorable experience. I'm coming back.
Campton Place (Taj) was a wonderful discovery. The reviews looked great and the menu looked great, but the execution exceeded all expectations. Each dish was a wonderful pairing of flavors, both subtle and in-your-face. Textures were perfect. The wine pairings with the tasting menu were excellent and stood up well to the flavors of the food. The sous vide beef (quickly seared) was perfect. We will come again. Dinner next time!
In 2007, I had one of my best dining experiences at Campton Place — at the time, Daniel Humm was at the stove, and the service was on par with European Michelin Star restaurants.
On Saturday, my brother from Germany and I had a mediocre experience. While the food (now Indian) was spot on, the service was not. Some of the team was nice and tried, but overall it simply wasn’t adequate. It didn’t feel genuine, and there was no attention to detail — the food runner mixed up who got what at all (!) courses, and to top things off they missed a birthday... I realize it was lunch, but if CP doesn’t want to serve lunch they maybe shouldn’t.
The kitchen makes every pre-prepared so an allergy that the kitchen is not notified about early enough means no food for the diner. The same kitchen offers a terribly average chicken curry with white rice in the bar next door with nothing else. For a two star-menu, this lack of creativity on any front is disappointing and we will not be returning to either the bar or the dining room. Some staff is ambivalent at best and offers you the worst table even when better booths are available since they are "reserved".
We selected the three course lunch. All courses had a modern take on traditional Indian cuisine. The Maitake Mushroom starter was exceptional as was the Spiced Tandoori Chicken, see photo below. The deserts looked amazing and tasted even better. Would definately dine here again.
We were vegetarians were looking forward to our special afternoon lunch at the Camptons. We were disappointed to find such a sparse selection for us as vegetarians. The entree had only 1 option which was shocking. The mushroom appetizer was very good and the only rice curry noodle that was vegetarian was good. The shrikand was truly innovative and probably the only thing worthy of the Michelin star.
What was most disappointing and ruined our experience was the service. They were almost rude and in some hurry. Not the service by a long shot for a Michelin starred restaurant.
Overall confused and disappointed.
We were early (15 minutes before the restaurant opened) and a bit tired from our horrendous theater experience. Happily, Chef Gopinathan greeted us and led us to a nice booth where we relaxed.
Our food and wine far surpassed the two star meal last October at a museum restaurant in New York City. Their food did not have the “wow” factor as did this one … and yet, their staff kept telling us what a marvelous time we were having.
The staff here, by the way, was very professional and courteous.
One of the best dining experiences i ever had. Each dish was fabulous tingling with our tastebuds. Its even a visual treat for the eyes. Creativity ,Perfection and Awesomeness in a plate. The staff was amazing. Chef Sree made our lunch date more special. Can't wait to be back to try his dinner tasting.
I had made an earlier reservation which was cancelled due to blackout- restaurant was very accommodating and we went the next night- everything was great except one issue- they offered choice of champagnes- when I got bill- a glass- highest end- was $55! Waiter should have highlighted in advance
I think this restaurant is lovely and I always enjoy getting a booth, because it feels cozy and private. The interior design is very nice with a serene vibe. It feels upscale and comfortable.
We had a nice breakfast here on Easter. They had our reserved table ready for us, and although the service felt a bit rushed, I know they were trying to ready the restaurant for a holiday brunch crowd. It is understandable, and I wouldn't hesitate to eat there again.
Our food was delicious! Served beautifully and elegantly, and no one left hungry. I had the waffle, which my son finished. Served with a cooked pear, syrup, both whipped and clarified butter, I recommend it highly-- with a cup of coffee!
