I’ve been going to camper’s since it opened and have been impressed by the imaginative menu however the last few times I’ve dined there I have noticed a deterioration in quality and attention to detail. This evening the salad was shocking poorly dressed and the main dish under seasoned as has been mentioned by other reviews. I hope they return to their previous standards.

We dined here for the first time for our anniversary. It's kind of a casual venue for a special occasion. My partner was disappointed in the size of his small (but potent) lemon cocktail. I knew the sangria would be white with pinot grigio, but forgot it included tequila as well - different. The rock cod dish was fancy and delicious. I was hungry later in the evening. My partner liked his ample pasta bolognese. We also had the cornbread, thinking it would come first, as an appetizer with our drinks. It came all at once with the entrees, in lickety split. We were a bit disappointed the food came so fast! The service was professional enough.

I love Camper but last night’s experience was pretty terrible. We had a reservation at 7pm and waited until 7:40 to be seated with no offer to give us a drink or anything for our inconvenience. Up to maybe 15 min I can understand but 40?

Hi Monica, Thank you for dining with us and taking the time to come back and let us know about the opportunities for improvements with our service. I believe you have been in touch with our Management but never-the-less I want to reiterate how sincerely we take your feedback and our commitment to doing better. We totally respect and appreciate that your decision to dine with us comes at the opportunity cost of picking us over several other great options locally and has costs associated with it. We promise to do better and look forward to redemption on your next visit. With my best, Greg K-C + Team Camper

We went to Camper on a whim for a friend's birthday. Well, we were wowed by the bar and the bar tender!! She was very knowledgeable and made excellent quality cocktails. Then, for dinner we had the oysters, the burrata, the yellow fin tuna crudo, and the herb and saffron dumplings...and ALL of these dishes were absolutely superb!!! For desert we had the pot of creme, which was also deeeelicious and very creative. We are planning to go back once a month now!! My only small negative feedback is that inside it is a bit noisy. We sat outside and it was perfect.

Delightful dinner on a Monday night where the room was busy but manageable. Attentive waiter. Excellent martinis to start. Two orders of the sunchoke agnolotti (excellent), an order of cod (expertly cooked) and the dumplings (just okay). Side salads were fresh and deep green. Killer sourdough and some orange zest tasting butter. Lovely Sancerre from a wine list that was surprisingly affordable for a Silicon Valley upscale eatery. Only knock was that the room was a bit chilly. We’d recommend this joint.

Food was ok for the price .. I couldn’t believe that I paid $30 for rice and my husbands bourbon was an embarrassing pour .. the waitress rushed us out of there.. didn’t even sit down and she was already asking g for drinks appetizer and dinner all in one breath.. then gave us the bill and we thought we tipped and the owner came out and said was there something we said no and then he asked why didn’t we tip.. I have never had that happened. If there wasn’t so many things o probably would think they had an off night but for $350 I expected more .. not going back

Hi Neighbor, My name is Greg and I co-own Camper. First and foremost, we are bummed to hear about your experience last night. We apologize for the shortcomings in our service and hospitality. We will speak with our team regarding your experience and promise to have these issues buttoned up on your next visit. Regarding tipping, I was not on the floor last evening and we would never impose upon you to tip; it is at your discretion and while it is welcome it is not expected. We truly apologize if there was any mix up originating from our end and hope you can chalk it up to an error of ours. With our respect and gratitude, we remain at your service. Sincerely Greg Carmel + Team Camper

A lovely meal. The chef is super creative in the use of vegetables and original sauces. Nice selection of wines by the glass, which our server was happy to let me taste before ordering. Highly recommend the cauliflower starter and the chickpea risotto, which were quite exceptional. The baked cod however was a bit too salty. And we needed to order some bread to cleanse our palate afterwards. They did offer to remake the fish which was thoughtful, but it would have interrupted the flow of our dinner at that stage. That said, it was a great experience overall. And don’t skip the s’mores desert!

Everything was SO delicious: the scallop crudo with peas, the tortelloni , the spaghetti w/Dungeness crab, the waygu hamburger and fries and the apple tart tatin. I think one cannot go wrong with dining at Camper and I look forward to trying the pizza on my next trip :)

Hi Neighbor! Thank you for this sweet review. We are always changing and always working on new tasty and welcoming things here in this space; be it new dishes, seasonal updates on our cocktails, continuing to build out our patio(s) or the like. We hope we do get to show you more of our magic here again soon. Pizza is currently on hiatus @ the restaurant but we are toying with the idea of bringing it in once a week (Sundays) as sort of a popup with in our shop. It has always been well received but it is quite laborious so we only do it for special occasions right now. With our love, your friends @ Camper

Really underwhelmed by this restaurant. Service was terrible, food was unremarkable, under-seasoned and overpriced. Not a whole lot of accommodation for dietary restrictions, no salads with protein and the only option to add was chicken. Some guests didnt get place settings for the duration of the meal. Drinks were never refilled. Took a very long time to get food.

The reason it’s not 5 stars is that we waited quite a while after Checkin for our table. Ambience is nice & cozy. Our server greeted us with a big warm smile & the recommendations were good as it was our first time and we had out of town guests. Cornbread was excellent & the two pasta dishes were delicious. Dessert recommended to us was outstanding. Perfect dinner!!!

Hi Anita, Thank you for dining with us on Saturday. We apologize for the wait for your table. The compounding challenges of the weather, an already busy evening and a large private event in the restaurant created a "perfect storm" of challenges and we are truly sorry that it created challenges in your time with us. We hope on a future visit you will find us better positioned to receive you and your guests and deliver on our hospitality. With our very best, Team Camper

Camper continues to be one of my fave places to dine on the Peninsula! Seasonal vegetables and grass fed local meats perfectly prepared win every time. Greg's Steak (MR) alongside the 12-hour Rigatoni with Pork Ragu and Sourdough Breadcrumbs is my absolute fave combo here. DELISH. I look forward to trying the Charcoal-Stained Spaghetti with Dungeness Crab next time. Started with the Cast Iron Cornbread, which came with a delicious herb-honey butter...would've like the cornbread a little warmer, so the butter would melt. But yummy, nonetheless. Next time, I'll try the Sourdough Bread with the Homemade Ricotta. The Bourbon-heavy bar made it a MUST to order a Penicillin, with a Lagavulin float. The Japanese Old Fashioned with Akashi Japanese + Ume Whiskey and Yuzu Bitters was TOP NOTCH. Ended our meal with two desserts vs one...An oozy caramel sauce drizzled over a crunchy Canele cake topped with Vanilla ice cream AND the Smoked Smores with Burnet Meringue....Say no more! Lastly, the impeccable service (from the host to the bartender) along with the restaurant's rustic outdoorsy ambiance is 10 out of 10!!

The food was just okay. I would say there wasn't much depth of flavor on the dishes. The dish the bothered me the most was the cornbread with compound butter. The butter was undersalted and we couldn't taste any flavor from it other than just butter. This seems like such an easy dish to get right that this was surprising. Overall, everything else was nice (service, ambience, decor), and it was easy to have a conversation (the restaurant wasn't too loud), but I would not come back given how expensive the food was when I thought it was just mediocre. I don't mind paying the amount I did here for other restaurants where I feel the dishes actually deliver.

Hi Anne, This is Greg, chef/co-owner @ Camper. Thank you for taking the time to dine with us the other night. We are bummed to hear your feedback and are always striving to improve in the various sectors that we believe our little place has a duty of trying to perfect our craft in. We will take your feedback and taste back through with our team, obviously, seasoning is a subjective matter but I hope it goes without saying that my team would never settle for mediocrity. We work nearly around the clock to try to build a product and restaurant that feeds many, and hopefully satisfies. To that end, we'll always be here tinkering and trying to get better, and if you do decide to take another trip to Camper, we hope we stick more of our landings. Until then, safe travels! Food was good (ordered cornbread, fries, rigatoni and black spaghetti with crab, s'mores and the dessert with dulce la leche). The food was piping hot, tasty and the portions were quite big. The wait staff was attentive. Our water glasses were never below halfway--they kept filling them. We were celebrating my birthday and they gave us a free dessert! We never felt rushed and enjoyed our dinner immensely. We will be back!! Thank you for making my birthday dinner special!

Great changing menu. Potato crusted rock cod was fantastic. 22% auto service fee was deserved but it should not be calculated against the 6% living wage included in the bill. I hate paying tip on tax!

The chicken dish I had was excellent. I am not sure if my other guests were as pleased with their meal as I was. It was a nice evening. Good service, food and drinks.

It’s so unfortunate to have to write a negative review. We discovered this restaurant close to a year ago and loved it. But we’ve been back a few times since and our experience just gets worse and worse. This was our last dinner at Camper. As far as the food, the salad was well dressed but not washed properly and the grit and sand made it inedible. My date’s pasta was fine but the sauce tasted like pure salt. As for the service .. what service? The host barely looked at us, the busboy slammed water glasses down on the table as we sat down and the waiter acted like he’d rather be anywhere else than serving. He wasn’t familiar with the menu, couldn’t be bothered to ask if enjoyed our meal, had zero interest in us all together At $300 for two, we could have enjoyed a fabulous meal at Bar Zola or Ettan in Palo Alto. Menlo Park could really use a nice restaurant- unfortunately, Camper isn’t it.

Hi Neighbor, Thank you for dining with us this weekend and circling back to leave us this very generous feedback/review. These things move the needle for us significantly and give us a great opportunity to continue our efforts to grow and sculpt this little restaurant. In the New Year we will be retooling our dining areas and further, hopefully, cultivating a casual, cosy and relaxed space (and hopefully tuning down the "boisterousness" a bit). We hope we get to show you the fruits of those efforts soon :-) Until then, we bid you Happy Holidays ~~ Team Canteen
