The season writes the menus and the freshness of the produce determines the plate at this modern-British restaurant at Careys manor Hotel in the New Forest.

Head Chef Dylan James' dishes pay homage to the British countryside, and embrace the nature of the seasons. Expect locally sourced ingredients from Hampshire and Dorset's rich larder with dishes such as Grilled south coast cod loin, green lentils, chorizo, capers and Slow cooked dingly dell pork belly and cheek, apple and kohlrabi.

Breakfast and afternoon tea is served daily with gluten-free and vegan options available.

This is a high class restaurant with a relaxed, welcoming and friendly feel. The menu has a good choice range and the food is delicious. Engaging and attentive staff. I definitely highly recommend

Really bizarre place. Lay out compiles several booths around the perimeter of the room and then a big empty space in the middle (for a disco? Wedding dance floor?). Sourdough and dips for £5 was one thin slice of stale bread cut in half. Vegetarian main was three boiled carrots with an undefined sauce (this is not an exaggeration). Not sure how it relates to the impression of it on the website on any level. Strange sort of Fawlty Towers meets empty village nightclub (minus the loud music) vibe. I never write reviews, but this was another level.

Food was not great and judging by speed of service largely pre-prepped. Good as a hotel restaurant but not a food destination. Friendly and efficient staff

We had a Valentines dinner and it was really lovely, I have coeliac so needed a gluten free option, they didn't disappoint, I had the same menu but adapted to gluten free, we would definitely go back. My only comment would be that the table we sat at only had a plant between us & then next one so it was a bit close to the next table. The service was excellent though so that really helped make the evening a lovely one.

Excellent roast lunch. Food was delicious, generous portions and a great lunch deal with 2 or 3 courses. Staff were attentive and friendly as always and lovely atmosphere in the restaurant.

Excellent service and food. The Sunday lunch was beautifully presented and very enjoyable, thank you. The ladies waiting at the tables were friendly and easy to engage in conversation, a big plus. The dining room is a bit spartan. The tables are far apart and as the floor is a modern wood it doesn’t generate a warm ambience.
