Welcome to Calle Rey, where we celebrate the vibrant flavours of Mexican, and Peruvian cuisine. Experience our new decor where Midcentury Mexican meets Taco HEAVEN.
Our innovative menu offers reasonably priced vegan and non vegan options on King st Newtown.
Enjoy our Happy Hour 530pm til 730pm (Tuesday til Friday) and 230pm til 430pm Sundays! ALL our cocktails are $12 and $8 Beers all day everyday with complimentary nibbles.
Our weekly special’s include $5 Tacos on Tuesdays to Thursdays and Sundays
Plus half price Cauliflower Wings on Wednesdays
and half price Nachos Thursdays. Delicious Bargins!!!
We have Trivia every second Sunday. With Kev and Col!

Food was sensational, so yum! Margaritas were really good too. Can't wait to come back.

I was disappointed that the full plant based restaurant and its menu is now ambiguous. More so, it is labelled vegan and non-vegan ( with D for dairy). It was rather misleading because the meals labelled non vegan with dairy are actually meat products. And as a vegetarian but not vegan, we by mistake also ordered pork and beef meals thinking they were made out of plant based ingredient. My previous visits when it was full plant based menu saw the restaurant filled with patrons. But, last night, there were only 2 tables with patrons. Quite sad to see the owner had decided to stop serving a full plant based menu; now making the restaurant loose its edge comparing with others meat eateries.

We had a great night at Calle Rey. The food is excellent, we had great service and the staff are so lovely. We went on a Sunday night and joined in the Trivia. It was so much fun!! Highly recommend.

Great food. Friendly attentive service. The Bbq Cauliflower Wings were delicious and so were the Tacos. 🌮 Enjoyed the cocktails 🍹 Thanks.

First time here and found the service was excellent . The food was brilliant . Loved that I could go out with my non veg / vegan friends and I could happily order veg food for myself . And so good

Fabulously cool, retro bar. Delicious menu offering a selection of meat and plant-based dishes. Great atmosphere, with plenty of space for get togethers as well as cosy couples. Already booked our return : )

Absolutely loved this place! The vegan “seafood” tacos were incredible, the churritos were perfectly crispy, and the sangria—wow, the biggest and best glass I’ve ever had! Can’t wait to come back!

The food was lovely. But we booked the 9pm table and we’re not told we could not have the banquet due to the time. We actually came for the banquet. We ordered and we very quickly realised we did not have enough food. We got told at 9:25pm the kitchen was closing. so we went to order and they told us the kitchen was closed. So after 9:30pm you can not order. So we left still hungry. That was disappointing.
