This was my second time coming, the first time I sat outside and I felt like we weren't getting enough attention with our drinks and our orders, but It was a very busy night. The second time I went I went earlier and we had a lot of attention to our table. The food was great both times, I LOVE the queso, the fajita salad, the tacos, and the drinks. Honestly, it was all very good and I will definitely be coming here again for the drinks, chips, and queso.
Truly unique dishes, unusual fusions. Both innovative and traditional dishes. Love the food
The place is beautiful!!! Good service but the food doesn’t stand out from so many Mexican restaurants in Houston,
Good atmosphere, but loud
Food was average. Watch your bill. Server tried to overcharge for drinks. Kitchen etiquette wasn’t sanitary. Saw a server blow out a dish that had a fire on it with her mouth then serve it. Won’t be back.
This is by far a great restaurant with good to the point service and amazing drinks. As long as you don't mind waiting for them to kill the cow, catch the fish, or to grind the corn for tortillas then it is excellent. By the way that's a way for me to be funny by saying it's a long wait to get super fresh wonderful food. 4 of us stayed for 2.25hours and had three appetizers, four entrees, two desserts and 9 drinks. We weren't disappointed with any of the flavors or the service. The wood-fire oysters are to die for. Just be prepared to wait for your food.
My photos would not load so I am unable to provide visual reference.
The food was great, lots of interesting choices--a little on the high side for Tex-Mex--but all good. We had great service. Very friendly waitstaff. It's a beautiful, fun place, but screaming loud. That gets old fast.
The food was not good at all, like TGIFridays of Mexican.
Great menu. Great layout and patio.
Very unfriendly hostesses. Very slow server. Very loud dining room (loud music).
I splurged and ordered their $37 "rib eye" that was 40% gristle. What a joke.
Enjoyed the outdoor seating which was quieter than inside. The food was fabulous as always!
We had a wonderful dinner and great service, but the noise level was very high. It was very loud. It seemed the music was too loud and that forced everyone to elevate the noise level.
Service was a little off initially, but ultimately they got it together. Food was outstanding...brussel sprout quesadillas, were unique and so yummy! The patio was perfection!
The recipes for our enchiladas were bad (verde enchiladas were nearly inedible for me). Chips and salsa were good. I understand from their hostess that a new chef and menu is forthcoming. ¡Es un buen idéa!
Service was not good. Food was ok nothing amazing I send my food back
Neighborhood gem with great food, friendly service and nice ambiance!
Way too loud and horrible service. We had a reservation but it wasn’t ready for an hour then the service at the table was bad and super slow too.
The queso was too thick and cold. Kind of chalky. The fajitas were great. Nice flavor and tender beef
We went for date night and it was perfect. Great drinks, great recommendations by our waitress, great food, great ambiance. We will definitely be back!
Have eaten there during the week and had a pretty good experience. The place was like a zoo at the weekend though. Wait staff were overstretched and the food was below par.
This is the worst service I've experienced at a restaurant in a long time. I was surprised to see this is the same owners as Edison and Patton because we've always enjoyed our meals there.. Anyway, we were seated pretty quickly since we had reservations, but downhill from there. The waitress took 10 minutes to acknowledge us. We ordered drinks (and a mocktail for me since I'm pregnant, the waitress never mentioned it would be the same price without alcohol)... The drinks took another 15 mins to come out. We ordered the queso and wanted more chips, had to ask 4 times to 3 different people. Took about 45 mins to get more chips? We didn't get them until AFTER our entrees came out and the queso was cold. We had to ask twice for a water refill (took 30 mins to get more water) and constantly had to remind our waitress that we ordered another drink. She kept forgetting it and finally brought out the margarita when she gave us the bill? We ordered it when the food came out, so this took way too long. Also my husband had 2 margs and felt no buzz and my friend felt no buzz after 2 sangrias. To top it off, valet seemed to have lost our car and took a good while to bring it to us (we were the only ones leaving at the time so there was not a long line...) I was bummed because I was really looking forward to trying this place, but the horrible service, especially at this price point, will prevent me from ever going here again.
Great place, fantastic food. Only downside was that our waiter was terrible. Lots of energy in this place. Make a reservation so you don’t have to wait an hour.
Great restaurant with outdoor terrace. We had to wait for our food, but it was worth it!
Good food, awesome ambiance, even better salsa, complimentary valet, and the service was great. I will be back for dinner.
Our group of four was excited to try this place, since both the cocktail menu and dinner menu looked interesting. We arrived at our reservation time and were told our table was outside, though outside was not requested. We had to wait an additional 40 minutes to get an indoor table. This gave us a chance to try a few of the cocktails. The three we tried ranged from so-so to not good at all, so we went with bottled beers for the next round. The food was not bad, but was consistently bland. The servers were trying their best, but were overwhelmed. In my opinion, this restaurant needs to remove tables, even if means raising prices. The kitchen and staff cannot adequately serve the number they currently have. One of the staff mentioned to us that this happens regularly on weekends, so it seems it wasn’t a one-time incident. There are too many better options in Houston. And the sour-expressioned young hostess that couldn’t be bothered to utter a greeting or reply to a query when we entered didn’t help our impression.
We’ve been coming to Calle Once for the last couple of months. They opened great, but the last couple of visits have left a lot to be desired.
This visit stood out due to its very poor service. We arrived to about ½ empty dining room and patio. Sat at 3pm. Chips in table by 3:02pm. No water or server greeting for over 10mins. When she finally arrived, she just said “do you want to order anything or need more time?”. At this point we were frustrated and almost left, but alas, did not.
She constantly saw our drinks empty, chips empty, salsa empty, and never asked if we wanted refills. Even on the margaritas which meant a bigger tip for her, we had to ask her for it.
We were seated next to their couches and those are filthy, they really need to steam clean them, or at least get some fabric cleaner and clean them. They are in pretty bad shape.
When she dropped the check, we pointed out we’ve been coming for months and we didn’t get HH pricing on the margarita or starter we ordered. She literally had no response other than grabbing the ticket from my hand and saying “I’ll go talk to the manager” and then coming back and saying “today is the last day we are doing HH on the weekends so I adjusted it”.
No apology, no explanation why if this was the last weekend, why they didn’t give me HH pricing to begin with. Also, don’t present guests with menus that say “HH DAILY” and then get mad when they point it out.
We loved this addition to the neighborhood when they opened, but we won’t be back.
Worst service of any houston restaurant. It’s not even close
Our first trip to Calle Onze was in the first couple of weeks of their opening. We found the food to be ok and the service was disorganized, but being that the restaurant was so new, we decided that we would wait awhile and come back.
On this trip - we waited about 20 minutes before someone asked us if we had been helped - obviously no, since there were no drinks on the table, only menus. We told the server how long we had waited and she apologized several times throughout the menu. We felt she meant it and after that, we were very happy with the service.
We ordered chicken quesadillas and the kobe beef enchiladas and neither of them had much taste. We felt like they didn't season the meat adequately. The sauce over the enchiladas was pretty tasty, but it was also pretty sparse.
The menu has a lot of promise and creativity but the tastes are just not there. It's unfortunate because the owners spent a lot on this property and in a city full of fantastic restaurants, there are too many other places to go that beat this one both in quality of food as well as organization of service.
Great atmosphere! Went on Cinco de Mayo so it was super busy but our server still did their best to keep the margs coming while the bar was backed up. Amazing food!! Been here multiple times for after work HH and will keep coming back ñ!
They have a great patio and atmosphere
What a great experience was there celebrating my birthday and could not have enjoyed it more. We started with appetizers and they were wonderful! The appetizers were so good and filling we ended up splitting dinner QUATRO QUESO & LOBSTER RAVIOLI wow it was great.
Hits: terrific outdoor patio. Favs are Mexican street corn, tamales, tacos al carbon, frozen margs, nachos - all flavorful with a robust serving size. The churros are unreal - light and fluffy with a chocolate dipping sauce.yum.
Misses: queso is runny but tasty. Inside seating is noisy.
Calle Onze has made our regular rotation as a consistent fave!
mediocre food, subpar, expensive drinks. Service was great but otherwise not impressed
The food and drinks were outstanding. Our waiter was not. He never brought our second round of drinks then gave us a bill for $478.00 which showed the oyster appetizer as costing $310.00 instead of $31.00 (it was delicious, just not worth $310.00). I guess he hoped we'd just pay and not ask any questions. When we pointed it out to him, he just said, "I know" instead of apologizing or offering to change it. This is a very loud restaurant.
Guess I’m not ready for this concept
Great food and great service. Nice outdoor patio that was perfect for today.
Way way overrated overpriced no alloying drink omg it was bad
I go to Calle Onze rather often. On this particular evening, there was only 1 guy working the valet. He told me that his lot was full and that I had to park myself in the bank lot across the street. I was fine with that until I noticed that he was valeting every single other car after me into the bank lot. Very frustrating. Then when it came time to order, I asked if the guacamole could be made without tomatoes and the waiter said the guacamole is pre-made and can't be altered. I was disappointed to learn that their guacamole is pre-made and not made fresh/to order. I will probably go back to Calle Onze, however after this experience, I will probably go less.
This place is seriously good! Been there 4 times in two months and can’t stop going. Drinks are expensive, food is reasonable but out of this world. Chill atmosphere and good service.really love it
I went for my boyfriends birthday and my food was terrible. The fish was hard and rubbery. The manager said she'd be back, but never returned. I sent the fish back and order something else that was also sub par. The patio is great but the food is not good.
Their drinks and food are really good... be prepared to wait an extremely long time for your food and drinks though. Also, no modifications are allowed and the guacamole is not made fresh to order. I had my toddler daughter with me and my mother-in-law who both can't eat jalapenos and asked to have it made without it and was told no. We asked for a to-go cup for my daughter's water and was told no. I don't think I've ever been told no so many times at a restaurant.
Want a night out with your friends? This could be a good spot but given my past two experiences I would echo my first sentence in saying you're going to wait a while and customer service is at their will. Cute toddlers & smiley faces don't expedite service.
Laura, thank you so much for your feedback! We value it! I must apologize as we absolutely are able to make your guacamole without jalapenos. Apologies for being misinformed. As of recently, we did not carry to go cups as we did not get requests for drinks for take away. However, as we have recently added some more non alcoholic items and the temperatures have climbed we have received requests to do so. Starting this week we will have to go cups available for our guests. Hope to see you soon.
