We went to Calle Dao for a bottomless brunch with a group of 8 ppl. They were very surly from start to finish about the brunch drinks for no reason - and our waiter specifically just seemed angry to be there. We loved the food and the restaurant overall but were pretty disappointed by the service. They took 30 minutes to bring us each new round of drinks, after being unnecessarily particular about the start/finish time for the 1.5 hour drink special. Would definitely recommend this restaurant to a friend for dinner, but probably not for brunch after this experience.
Lovely atmosphere that takes you to Old Havana. I especially liked the decor and the service, but the food is heavy! I had the beef with broccoli, which was a very large portion (good for sharing among two people, way too much for one person). I was not wowed by this dish unfortunately. The beef itself was delicious but the broth and broccoli were too salty. The noodles were overcooked and became a bit mushy in the hot broth.
Cuban-Asian fusion, much more Cuban than Asian. Perhaps not worth a special trip from a great distance but certainly a good, very informal place for a spicy Latin snack in the Chelsea neighborhood.
The food was not great at all totally disgusting, also this place added tips on the bill themselves without asking anyone.
Good experience, good food and value for money, casual and a nice change of cuisine.
I went with friends and was concerned my stomach would not agree with Cuban-Chinese food, but it was totally fine!
Will go back for sure!
Have already planned our next visit. We had the pork buns, beef and broccoli and roast pork. Our server said that she thinks these are best on the menu. She may say that to everyone regardless of they order. Doesn't matter our meal was phenomenal.
Definitely check it out if you are in Chelsea and want an interesting Cuban/Chinese fusion experience. They were a little under-manned the night we went in, but had a great meal and drinks. Would recommend any of their mixed drinks and I had the Beef and Broccoli which was delicious.
We went for brunch and really enjoyed the variety of options for bottomless brunch, great/friendly service, and food was delicious too!
Delicious and ambiance and wait staff was great! Very hospitable!
This is my first time to this place. I've been to Calle Dao at other locations in Midtown. I always like it.
Loved the duck bao buns! And great happy hour deals
Another amazing meal at Calle Dao! My first time at the Chelsea location but just as delicious. We had a large family party and the staff was incredibly patient and accommodating. Plus all the food got a strong two thumbs up from the Cuban family members!
Worse food you can imagine. Greasy. Tasteless. Reheated.
Delightful staff, very pretty restaurant that transports you the moment you walk into the space. Staff is warm and gracious. Definitely will go there again with friends and family.
After dining at Calle Dao in Chelsea, we are delighted to learn it as just as good as the Bryant Park Calle Dao we adore. The ambiance is slightly more upscale, but the menus appear the same. We love this creative, well prepared delicious food and the wonderful cocktails.
I am so glad we had dinner here instead of French or Italian food. I love both of those cuisines but this was unique and delicious! The oxtail croquettes were amazing and my cocktail was too. Sorry can’t remember the name but it was made with bourbon and lillet, very good. Short ribs with noodles and broccoli to die for and the pork dish my husband had with sweet potatoes was also excellent. Servers were wonderful. Thank you all!
It is a good place to experience but I wish the food had a more authentic taste.
Great food, service, and ambiance. Try their cocktails.
I had high hopes for Calle Dao, but had issues At stepping through the door. Reservations were made but a table wasn’t available. No problem, we will wait at the bar. Nice bartender, but she never came back to take our drink order. Table is ready- order our drinks plus the appetizers we decided on at the bar. Drinks arrive...second drink arrives and we order entrees (anticipating apps will soon arrive). Never received appetizer order, entrees are on the table. Our apps were delivered to the wrong table you say? Thanks for checking on us sooner...oh well.
Tried and tasted; Duck Buns, Cubano sandwich, Ma Po Maduros. One taste of Maduros had us coughing, not from spice but salt. Side greens on entrees had tasty dressing but were also overly salty. Cubano had one thin slice of roast pork- disappointing. Duck buns were passable but not spectacular.
This restaurant was not overly busy on a Saturday afternoon. There are some serious issues in staffing if they can’t handle the dining room at less than full capacity. To top it off, after eating our entrees we were immediately asked to to move to another table as the manager needed to set up a party in our section of the restaurant.
Our server did remove the missing orders and the horrid Maduros from our bill without us asking. He was also apologetic about asking us to relocate.
Bottom line- there are much better choices to be made in the Manhattan food scene. Sorry I wasted my meal on Calle Dao.
Great dinner and service! We got there about 10 mins before happy hour ended and the waiter and waitress made sure to offer a round of drinks before it ended. Our food came out quickly and was fresh.
Everything on the menu is good. I've never really said that about anywhere but this was my second time here. I don't like repeating restaurants in NYC because there's just so many to explore but this place is worth visiting again.
POOR QUALITY OVER-COOKED FOOD. NOT CUBAN. NOT CHINESE. NOT CUBAN-CHINESE
Love this place. Interesting and sometimes unusual food choices - always delicious. Fantastic vibe. Service has been lovely each visit.
Food was excellent. And service perfect.
We were there for brunch. Would love to go back!
Food was delicious and ambience wonderful. I would definitely go again.
Place was almost empty so it was quiet. I think it could be noisy when crowded but I don’t know for sure. No music to drown out voices.
Drinks were too expensive. Food was outstanding and worth the expense.
Good service, good atmosphere but the food was poor at best. I am Cuban and have had Cuban/Chinese cuisine and this did not even come close. Fried rice was not impressive, paella rice was under cooked and hard as a rock. I think they need to revisit their menu because everything else was great!!!
The place was very busy - and it was unexpected according to our server. That led to a little bit longer for drinks. The food was not good. Paella was super salty. And it was very expensive - for a party of 4 our bill with tip went over $350 (included drinks) which I think is way too high for a restaurant serving rice and beans.
very slow service. came here on a Saturday night for 7:30pm reservation for a party of 4. waited forever for our drinks and the waiter barely came up to ever check if needed anything (which we did)and we had to flag him. amazing ambiance and good food. the goat neck was a bit too salty for my taste but overall the food was great.
First time visiting this location today. Place was busy and very under staff. Waited for a long time to get drinks and even longer wait for food. Food flavor was good but it would’ve been better if it was served hot. I was very disappointed with this visit. My experience with the Bryant park location was better.
We came for brunch, and it was incredible! The space is very fun, and our waitress was very friendly. Would recommend!
All went ok , the food is little over salted the service is good and fast the only think that bothers me is they rated B .
Always satified with the food and service at this location...
Service was amazing! Loved all the bottomless brunch drinks.
Both the food and the service here were truly lackluster. We were disappointed by individual dishes--examples include a very sad bite vs. the creative promise of a "Cuban Eggroll", to an entree of absolutely desiccated "duck fried rice". On top of this, the service was poor from front of house through to our server, who did not appear again after taking our order. All other interactions required us to flag someone down after 15 minutes of trying catch any employees attention. We will not be back and will certainly not recommend to friends.
I've been there before & enjoyed it. This time it was just as good. Nice service, nice wine, food was very good. I was a bit surprised by the (Health Department) B rating in the window though. Kind of a turn-off...
We've been a few times and the food had always been amazing!
The service is friendly but leaving in attentiveness and speed. 20 minutes for another round of drinks, bottled beer, is pretty bad and the food runner auctioned off the food when he brought it.
Best place for boozy brunch! The drinks are fresh and made to order. The staff was attentive and very professional (my glass was never empty). In addition to the excellent drink service, the food was delicious. I can wait to come back 🕺🏻
