Fast-forward a few years. We’re still slinging tacos and burritos, only now we do it from restaurants: in New York, Detroit, and soon, Bahrain. Nobody is more surprised by this development than we are.
Our business has grown, but what we do hasn’t changed one bit. We still wake up every day and make the kind of food we like to eat: fresh, flavorful, satisfying. People seem to like it. Hopefully, you will too.
Buen Provecho,
The Calexico Brothers

Tortillas were not warmed, fajitas were stuck to the cast iron
Lovely good food ever better scenery.
Excellent food and drinks! We sat outdoors and it was a perfect experience. Good service, as well.
First visit here. Food was great. Server Sandra was very pleasant . We will be back for sure!
Food quality was really bad. Servers were nice.
Took a while to get drinks. Rubber band in salsa. Food was average.
The Baja tacos were delicious. The chicken enchiladas were horrible!! Retuned them. Waitress was ok
Great outdoor seating! Drinks were good. Food was okay not horrible but not the best. My order was not correct I ordered chicken nachos and my chicken was not on my food. The waitress instead of redoing my order just brought me a bowl of chicken and poured it on top of my food. Other than that it was ok.
I took my wife out here for a date night. The atmosphere was nice however the food was lousy and the bartender did not even know how to serve a shot of anejo tequila. I would not recommend.
Average food, charged for chips and salsa, bus boy quit and then stormed out screaming and swearing...very odd.
The tacos are excellent. The guac is very fresh and tasty. Good drink specials. Always a dependable spot when spending the day in Detroit.
Came for my sisters birthday dinner, we had a great night full of drinks and food! Will definitely return!
My wife and I were attending an event nearby and enjoy Mexican food. We could have gone to SW Detroit, but wanted to try Calexico. We were seated right away and attended to promptly. Our waitress was very pleasant and attentive. My wife and I ordered chips and salsa, not free like many places, but that was not a big deal to us. The chips were plentiful and the salsas were excellent. We both ordered tacos. We shared a little so we could try each and found all of them quite good. I would like to see more choices for tacos and food in general. My wife said her margarita was a bit on the sour side. Overall, we enjoyed everything and would recommend.
I love this pace and will continue to come back!!
I was not happy about the quality of food and service I received at calexico. First off my server didn’t check on us after we received the food until the end. He didn’t realize my drink was awful and when I had said I hardly drank my drink he didn’t care to take it off by check. The tacos my friends had were also dry and not good. We definitely will not be returning there to eat.
The service was great and the food was amazing! I would definitely come back again!
Great food, great time!
I came here on a date after making a reservation, and the food and service was nothing less than outstanding!! Will be coming back!!
Food was amazing but it took an hour to get
I would call Calexico "underwhelming". There was nothing about our experience that was outstanding. The food, the service, the atmosphere could all be described as "not bad, but not great either. With all the terrific options in Detroit for dining, I would tell friends to spend their time and money elsewhere. Also, I really dislike Mexican restaurants that charge for store-bought chips and "okay" salsa-- give it away free like most other Mexican restaurants!
Food was excellent. It was a little loud for our table to socialize well. We enjoyed our meal, though. Would definitely recommend as a meal before an event or going out. Not pretentious, reasonably priced for a meal out downtown, and tasty.
Our server was amazing! I cannot remember her name but she had blonde hair and tattoos and she made our experience so amazing! We definitely wanted her to join our party! Great service, awesome time there! We will be back because of her!
Our server was great, but the service itself was VERY slow. Only two servers for the entire restaurant. The food and drinks were overpriced for the quantity and quality.
I went there with a group of coworkers. The service was great. The food was alright. I really liked the salsa verde served with the chips. The other salsa was just OK. I ordered the chicken fajitas and it was very good. The rice was very good with the, but I found the beans very bland. One of my coworkers ordered the quesadilla. He didn't find it very filling for price.
They were short staffed but our waitress was great. Other than the bar being extremely slow...we wouldn’t have even realized they were so short staffed!
Manager was our waiter and was extremely rude and not very attentive. It was very disappointing because the food was great.
Awesome service. The Guac was insane great.
Great service, very good food. Definitely recommend!
Restaurant has freezer problems. Tacos are store bought not hand made - disappointing that you have to pay for chips and salaa
Food was good. Decor was cute. Service was just a little slow.
Service was a little slow. Our server was working hard but he seemed a little forgetful
Always a good time at Calexico
A small group of us met for dinner before a concert and found Calexico to serve our purpose. The food and drinks are good enough (the guacamole and the "crack sauce" are personal favorites), the service was decent, and the price was right. I won't rush back, but I will likely return in the future.
Awesome experience!
The food is very good, the service good, and it’s a fun atmosphere. The only thing I didn’t like is that a Mexican restaurant serves its house Margaritas in little whiskey glasses. After all the ice they put in you do not get much drink at all!
We had two servers but once our food came we didn’t see them much. We had to get up and track them down for many things including to pay. Also it wasn’t even that busy, disappointed...
A group of 6 of us went there before a concert. At first I was disappointed they didn’t have the outdoor space set up for seating. Chairs out there were still stacked even though it was a gorgeous day outside. We were seated right away as it wasn’t very busy. Our waiter was nice but not good at his job and thanked us for being patient right off the bat. He forgot requests, didn’t check on us much and seemed frequently confused even though the place was half empty. As for food the servings were all small. The guac/salsa & chips and the quesadillas tasted good. Our margaritas were small and served in short rocks glasses with lots of ice with salt splattered down one side of the glass. Our tostada salad did not have the requested added chicken and instead was loaded with a ton of sliced jalapeños which were not listed in the ingredients and took quite a while to pick out. When we showed the waiter the pile of them once he finally came back to the table he didn’t offer any apology or offer a new salad. The enchiladas were small but tasted okay. We will not be back.
Good food. Moderate selection. Did take a while to get 3 dishes but quality was good.
Light shining in my eye from a spotlight under the table waitress said she was going to cover it up and never did! Food was ok but not worth the money and not as hot and fresh as could be! Would not recommend.
Food was delicious and the wait staff was very friendly however we waited almost an hour for our food and we were trying to get to a show. There didn’t seem to be a reason for the delay. Would recommend if you have time to wait and you enjoy Hispanic food!
