Fast-forward a few years. We’re still slinging tacos and burritos, only now we do it from restaurants: in New York, Detroit, and soon, Bahrain. Nobody is more surprised by this development than we are.
Our business has grown, but what we do hasn’t changed one bit. We still wake up every day and make the kind of food we like to eat: fresh, flavorful, satisfying. People seem to like it. Hopefully, you will too.

The best Mexican food downtown. Amazing service and drinks as well
Great menu. Chips and salsa were just ok. Service was ok. Loved the ambiance. Great location downtown.
They were very short staffed but in the servers defense, she mentioned food taking 40 minutes from ordering. Ours took a bit longer like closer to an hour but it was good when we got it. It all came out 1 order at a time.
Great place! Service was awesome
Great food and atmosphere. No complaints and will definitely come back again.
Food and service were great! Margarita not so much…
Great location. Food is amazing! Super friendly staff.
It was extremely cold in the restaurant. Way too cold for the month of December. It’s rare that I’m not satisfied with my meal, but the tacos… just weren’t good. It lacked the flavor you would expect. I enjoyed the drinks and the carne fries. My friend’s salad was made incorrectly, and had to send it back.
Everything was fantastic! The food & the service was outstanding, we had a great experience!
Excellent!!! Food and service were very good.
Service was bad from the start. Hostess didn’t seem to have a clue. We had reservations, but we waited 15 minutes while as she continually sat walk ins, because the table she had “penciled in” for us was still in use. Once we did get seated, we ate with our coats on for the entire meal because they apparently had no heat in the place Food was so-so. Can’t say we’ll ever go back.
Great experience at Calexico! We loved our visit and will be back! Great service and the food was delicious!
The food was excellent...great preparation and value for your money. The margueritas were excellent too!
Had a 7:30 pm reservation. When I got there before being seated I was told "Well we close at 8". When asked why accept a 7:30 reservation I was told it was impossible. When I showed a screen shot of my reservation I was told "well we can't see open table" . I decided to just leave.
3 of us had shrimp fajitas and although they were tasty they were the smallest shrimp I’ve ever had in an entree. Definitely not worth a return visit.
Delicious tacos, guac, bowls, and apps. Service was fine, definitely short staffed. I wish that the tortilla chips were warm but that would be the only recommendation!
Our server was excellent- very friendly, attentive, and hard working. We took his recommendations for food and drinks. Margaritas were good, but small. Food was bland. Mexican food with no spice is no good for me. As a Cali native, I was hoping for more. Next time we’ll stick with Bakersfield. And…I don’t mind paying for chips and salsa but not when they’re blah. Asked for some jalapeños and red pepper to give them some taste at least.
Horrible food. Will never go back
Saturday afternoon and not all that busy. Food Tex/Mex. Not really spicy. Margaritas very good. Some staff friendly, others going through the motions. Appreciate they turned down music volume on request. Women’s bathrooms distasteful. Large amount of trash on floor of one stall, unflushed commode in the other. Paper towel dispenser empty (air dryer available) so could not open a very heavy door without touching handle (foot opener inadequate given weight of door).
The margaritas were very good. The food was way better than I thought it would be given how inexpensive the prices were, all very tasty and perfect for dinner while traveling with my teenagers.
It was warm and muggy in the restaurant. Service was good, house margaritas were good but the food was really hit and miss. The fish taco, shrimp taco and fries were good but the pork and Mexican rice were awful. Fajitas were mediocre except for the jalapeño jam. I might go back for a drink but would not eat there again.
Great !!! I love this place and the food
Our waitress was really nice and accommodating and she was also the only waitress working. But when we showed up for our 8pm reservation we were told by the man who greeted us that we had to have our order in by 8:05 so they could close the kitchen and we had to have our last drink order in by 8:15 so that they could close because they “had a long day”. I just would have rather they called us and told us that it wasn’t going to work for us to come tonight if that was the case. Being treated like that just ruined the whole experience
My enchiladas were burnt. Service was pretty good but the food was so bland. No one checked to see if I was enjoying my food.
Took my wife here for Mother’s Day. She loved it. I did as very. Very nice, very quiet. Nice staff.
Food was dry and super unsalted but GREAT service
Food was fantastic at Calexio great cocktail menu and tequila options. Service was a bit slow.
Our server was great. Super polite. Strong odor of bleach. Food was ok. Place seemed unorganized. Will not be going back.
Made reservations for 7pm and they decided to close at 7:30 so would not seat us. Not the first time this has happened, they close whenever they want regardless of reservations
I’ve been here a few times and was never this disappointed. 6 open tables but they couldn’t accommodate a party of 6 so we sat at two separate tables that we asked to be together but was told no even though there were two open tables next to each other. I thought the guy was going to lose his mind. So now we’re 15 mins behind. Server told us we could order drinks until 815 it’s now 745 so we all get two and order our food. Nothing came out together. Our drinks came out one by one. When I ordered another one I was told no. Even though I was in the time. So he said ok. But then never returned with it. Then we had moved the tables a little closer because it was so loud in there and the hostess came and measured with his feet the distance from the table. Tried to order 2 to go orders we were told kictxheb was closed and they were out of half their menu. Over all. TERRIBLE I’ll never be back.
I know businesses are struggling. Seems like Calexico is having a hard time with waitstaff and ticket times. Server was very stressed and apologetic but we ran very long ticket times and missed an opportunity to order takeout for family at home because of it.
The cheese was cold on the nachos. Those nachos were taken back and I was given a fresh set. The cheese was cold again. Food was sub par. They were out of lemonade. Not a great first experience. Nothing special, probably won’t go back.
Fried chicken taco was AAHMAZING!
The food was amazing and the drinks but the service wasn’t that great due to only one waiter being available and waiting all the parties
We had reservations for a group but at separate tables. When we walked up our host was not very nice about it at all and some of our group was told to leave. I get capacity but we also had reservations. Also we said “no dairy” because our daughter is allergic and she ended up with cheese in her burrito.
It sucked that they only had one waiter working the floor but she did a great job
Took 30 minutes to receive drinks after ordering and an hour to receive our food after ordering, waitress would just disappear and the older male host was rude . Margaritas are just premixed drinks with syrup.
I was turned away after being told “the kitchen closes in 5 minutes”. I had a reservation set less than 10 minutes prior to me entering the door (drove around about 15 minutes looking for a parking spot). I have small children and it was not cool getting them unsettled out of their car seats into the cold just to be turned away. What’s the point of making reservations for a place that doesn’t honor it??!! I was already skeptical because of the mixed reviews about their food and service but wanted to give it a try. Never again!!
Food was good. Drinks were weak
It was nice and clean. Nice people and nice Atmosphere.
