Cal Mare - MGM Springfield
The first impression was not great. There was no host or hostess to greet us and basically we were ignored for quite a long time. Once seated it was very noisy. People were shouting at each other including a server who was trying to talk to the people at the table next to us. Then Rachel, our server came over and everything shifted. She was wonderful upbeat and helpful. A sunshine personality. The food was delicious and after a few people left it got quieter. We ended up enjoying our evening
Our server Sonya was amazing and had great recommendations, especially drinks. Super personable. The food was excellent!
It was yummy & our waiter was so nice!
Nine ladies enjoyied a fabulous dining experience on a busy Saturday night. The service was excellent and everyone was happy with their food and beverage choices!
Our group of 3 had a great dinner at Cal Mare the other night. The food was excellent and Liam, our server, took wonderful care of us. Branzino, gnocchi, and lasagna were all big hits.
Would not go back again, between the music and the noise from the slots its way too noisy
the service was fine and the server was very pleasant but again, it cafeteria setting and fine dining prices
This was my second time to this restaurant. There are only one or two menu items that I like - but those 2 are awesome. I do think that for the demographic of this location that the restaurant should consider bringing more everyday italian dishes to their menu. The prices are a little high, but as I said the food was awesome. Although I do not remember our waitress's name, she was great!
nd the food came out in a timely fashion. The food quality was very good as well.i would highly recommend this restaurant.
This was our first visit to MGM casino. We decided on this restaurant before going to a comedy show on this particular evening. We liked what was on the menu and made our choice that way before making it over and it was also on OpenTable. We find it kind of strange that we were seated without menus, and told that the waiter would come over with menus. Have never had this experience before I think it was lacking for the restaurant as a whole.
When we arrived, the restaurant was not very busy. Our server came over with a smile and was very friendly and helpful. He let us try a couple wines and suggested one since the white wine I wanted was out of stock. He explained some of the menu items that we had questions about, and then we ordered our appetizer and drinks. Another gentleman ended up coming over to take our dinner order which didn’t make any sense for us. It would have been a much more successful evening if we had stuck to the server that we had at the beginning of the night.
Then a third person came over with our meals, and we mentioned our appetizer never showed up. This gentleman felt bad and offered us to bring the appetizer or drinks instead. We declined the appetizer and were given desserts at the end of the evening. What we really wish would’ve happened would have been our server come over to apologize to us and see how our meals were. The entire time we ate no one came over to check on us. Our server did come see us at the end of the evening but that was to apologize and bring us the check and to let us know that we did not have to pay for desserts. This was very kind of everyone but maybe the team should have let the waiter do his job and not get in the way. . .
We asked the third gentleman for bread, but that never arrived either. Overall good food but the service and communication needs to be worked on at this restaurant!
Great Service, very attentive and delicious food! Will be visiting again on girl's night with my friends.
Our waitress, Christine, was awesome. The food was delicious
This was our third trip back. The first two were wonderful. I ordered the potato gnocchi and much to my disappointment they were gummy and flat. No little pillows of delight. The manager did come back to say he "temped them" and they were a little under. The unfortunate thing were the words that followed. "They can be tricky to get right. Sometimes they are light and airy and other times not so much." Then don't put them on the menu if you can't cook them correctly. He did bring lasagna to me as these would be quick. Lasagna, it was meat sauce in the bottom of the pan with rolls of homemade noodles with ricotta and some strange spice I couldn't quite identify. Not what this Italian thinks of as lasagna. We sat very close to the kitchen and were able to observe way too much! The young lady dressing the salads used her bare hands to top salads with cheese etc... When asked why no serving utensil or gloves the response was that as long as she washed her hands it was fine. Yes she may have washed them but then touched her hair, her face, the counters etc...then touched the food you were to eat with those dame hands! No thanks. Board of health needs to visit.
I thought it was o.k. but nothing to brag about. Beautiful and the staff was good but as a chef, I thought the food was disappointing in that the dishes tried too hard to be 'fancy'. Each individual component was delicious but each was also over seasoned in my opinion. Too much competition on the plate and not enough balance. It was incredibly loud from casino activity which I expected but it did make it difficult to have a conversation where we were sitting.
My only suggestion is a Mimosa/Bellini price special during brunch hours.
Our party of 6 went to Cal Mare for a birthday celebration. We were impressed with the atmosphere, the service was exceptional and the food was amazing. With 4 different entrees there was not one I would not recommend (2 steak & eggs, 2 french toast, one red snapper, one cavatelli). Two appetizers - excellent as well. Deserts - delicious. The ricotta gelato with huckleberry compote is a must. Service was attentive and responsive. If you are at the Casino I highly recommend Cal Mare.
Food and customer service is outstanding.. a little loud but they can’t help that. My new favorite place!
We had a great experience —from start to finish. Our server Liam was informative, funny and attentive.
The food was great! Highly recommend the oysters, gem salad, pork chop and monk fish. Each of the four was prepared with intriguing new elements; e.g., oysters with limoncello granita. Amazing!
My reservation was for Satuday @ 5:00. We ate at the bar which was fun. The food was very good and plentiful. Servers (bartenders) were very pleasant. Main disappointment was that the bar does not open a little earlier than the 5:00 opening time of the restaurant. It would have been nice to sit a few minutes and order a cocktail while waiting. One other comment is that music was too loud and too much noise from gambling machines. How about installing a screen? But overall a lovely dinner, will return.
The hostess was NOT pleasant. Had a reservation that it was a special night for us and that we wanted a low table away from the pizza oven. Tried to sit us at a high top in the bar. Then put us at a small table by the kitchen. Mind you, we went on a slow, snowy Wednesday night. One big loud party of 20 or so people. Our waitress was delightful, thank goodness. The service was definitely on the slower side though. The zeppole with prosciutto was divine except for the rind that was present on almost every piece of the prosciutto. My husband loved the squid appetizer. We both ordered fish. We really could have split the branzino, it was huge and grilled to perfection. The grilled lemon squeezed on top was enough; the 3 sauces it came with were nothing special. What was special....the brussel sprouts! They were worth every penny. So delicious. The wine menu....ridiculously overpriced. You know you are paying a serious markup on a bottle when you go out, but this was just beyond too high. Dessert was phenomenal. Crostada was divine. Fantastic vanilla cappuccino. All in all, was glad we stayed to give it a shot, but not sure we will be racing back.
Our meal and the service was excellent. Sonia was a wonderful server and we enjoyed all of her recommendations.
This was a holiday weekend Saturday night, so not a typical dinner experience. Nevertheless, they did a good job and the food and wine were delicious. The menu is somewhat limited, but enough to satisfy.
We were pleased with our appetizers and meals.. very ecclectic and tasty..great wine and beer lists..
Food was very good. The service was ok they were a little slow
Food was very good. The staff was very accommodating. Service was also very good
We split apps, pizza and a meal. Everything was delicious. Our waitress was fantastic and really knew the menu!!
Amazing service and food. A bit pricey- great choice for a special occasion.
No “normal” food choices on menu. I couldn’t understand basically what anything was on the menu. We had to ask a lot of questions. The Bread was cold. Pricey.
Server was very nice. Sangria was just okay. Won’t be back
Outstanding waitress! It was like she was a mindreader!
Consistently good food ...we ate the brussels sprouts and the braciole salad before we could take pictures! Our server Christine was attentive and knowledgeable!
Great night with friends. I had read some bad reviews and our visit proved those wrong. We were seated at the time of our reservation ( Saturday at 5:30) and when we asked for a 'low' table, it was not a problem. We had 2 female servers who were great and gave us tons of attention. We loved all our food...white mushroom-pizza with egg, saffron and oxtail pasta and the popular lasagna rotelle. Too full for desserts. Prices similar to Northampton or East Longmeadow. The location is great for some MGM fun.
Great food, great service. Rachel did a great job
Food was excellent Im a foodie lack of knowledge of staff regarding ingrediences and types
Food was great but took a long time for everything to be delivered from drinks, apps, food, dessert, and check.
Excellent experience for all of us! We were celebrating a birthday and we loved the card waiting at the table very nice touch
It was my birthday, there was a birthday card on the table from the staff when I got there, nice touch! The ambiance was not quite what I expected, it is open and understated. Also, they serve takeout pizza from the same area, it’s nice, but just not what I expected. Our server Dawn was awesome, the food and drinks were very good, everyone at the table was happy. The staff brought out a candle in my desert and sang for my birthday, felt sorry for them lol. It’s a nice restaurant, I would recommend.
Honestly, I didn't want to write such a bad review, but after spending as much money as we did, I wanted to prevent someone else from such a waste of money and avoid the disappointment. In summary, the service was greatly below my expectations for fine dining- I've had better service at a fast food chain restaurant. The prices were outrageous for the quality and quantity of food/drinks. Vodka martini was $16 !!! Served in a small, cheap glass that had water spots. Food was served lukewarm at best.
So, did we reach out to management to complain? Yes, and they listened and then went on their merry way. If you like large crowds, noise and mediocre service and food, then this is the place for you.
We ordered 2 appetizers. We got them about 30 minutes apart. Not at the same time. The stuff peppers were laughable. They were so small that it’s actually ridiculous to even serve to people. Linguine with clam sauce was not even served with linguine and tasted horrible. My eggplant was so thick and covered in garlic.
Our sever was not attentive at all and I feel was annoyed that we questioned him about the appetizer timing. Very disappointed with our meal.
Very small menu and the food was not great. Furthermore the atmosphere is not like a cozy restaurant since the proximity and openness to all the slot machines is too close. Walls would make this better along with a nicer Italian menu variety. We will not go to this restaurant again.
second time dining. the service is still not great and the menu is short and has not changed since the opening. the food was somewhat mediocre this time. like the lasagna, the other pasta dish was overcooked. the appetizers were of average quality. the waitress was inexperienced and a bit weird. dry, clerk-like personality. the hostesses were also not very welcoming. the bus staff was good and friendly though.
Tuna tar tar was very good. But it was missing the toast points. They were not forgotten . They didn't know how it was suppose to be served. Way to bright inside Ambiance pretty terrible. Black ink pasta was also excellent. Food worth going for.
