Cal Mare - MGM Springfield
I want to start by saying that our waitress was excellent and a true professional. However, the host staff and (what I can only presume was) the manager were beyond rude and incompetent. Long story short, we were sat around 7pm for a 6:30 reservation. While we waited we watched the staff run around like they didn’t have a clue as to what was going on. When the manager came over to “apologize” for the wait, we explained that we had tickets for an 8pm show and he could have not been ruder. He snapped that he was having four tables set and stormed away. We waited another ten minutes and only remained because we could not get a table at any of the other restaurants in the casino or the surrounding area (yes, we had time to call all of them).
Like I mentioned at the beginning, our waitress was great and was really the only highlight of our experience. The food wasn’t all that good and watching the host staff scrambling all over the restaurant just stressed me out. I doubt I’ll be back.
Food was OK. Highlights were the Linguini with Clam Sauce (really liked the homemade pasta) and the Grilled Whole Branzino. BUT the potatoes under the Branzino are horrible. Greasy and tasteless, they would benefit from seasoning (maybe some Rosemary, Salt & Pepper) and less oil. Be warned they also appear on the Sunday Brunch menu as a side dish.
Carpaccio MUCH to salty.
If you are ready to spend 18$ spaghetti with butter you’re good to go.
Chocolate Ice Cream was with little outdated chocolate pickles and probably also outdated Hazelnuts.
Of course some course were ok, but these points above were enough to make us regret the stay.
Dinner at Cal Mare was delicious!! Appetizers were enough for two people to share and entrees were sufficient to finish off my appetite. Service was very attentive and friendly. A very nice place to eat.
Our wait staff person was personable, attentive, and helpful!
Love it there! The staff is fabulous and Gary the manager is outstanding
Food is great and the service was just as good. We've been here a couple of different times, and it gets better every time. Will definitely be coming back.
The food was very good and the service was attentive.
CM needs to keep introducing more new items or, at least, have different daily specials. The menu is too short and static to eat there often.
Waitress really pushed alcohol/drinks, not enough menu choices, mediocre entrees although butternut squash polenta was very good. Wont go back again, too many better alternatives in the area.
Food and service were excellent. Carpaccio meatballs, little gems Caesar, pressed chicken, wild mushroom pizza, cavatelli pasta, eggplant were all great.
Too bad, there were no specials, especially for a Saturday night.
Amanda was our server. She was fantastic. The food was wonderful!
Always a stop when we visit MGM Springfield. Food is fabulous!
Service was fantastic... food was very good but spicing was a little mild for me. I would have preferred a break from the noise and music from the casino. Would go again but ask for a table farther from the walkway and slots.
At MGM SPRINGFIELD for a business conference. Met associates for dinner before it begins. Only restaurant in hotel open was Cal Mare (the steakhouse was closed). Excellent food, wine list and service but the noise level in the half full restaurant was beyond loud making conversation very difficult. Not inexpensive but would return fit the food - not to have meaningful conversation.
Excellent as always
Our third time dinning at Cal Mare. The food is always top notch just feel it is a bit pricey. Highly recommended just be ready for the bottom line.
The garlic flavor in the chickpea pancake appetizer was overwhelming. All the other food we ordered was very good. Also the takeout bag is over the top; in other words, it is a waste of paper, too big and environmentally irresponsible.
The place was good and the people were very friendly. The menu is very limited, but what we got to eat was pretty good.
We got the clams casino as an appetizer and they were good.
I got the pork chop for my main dish and it was really good.
My wife got the steak and it had to get sent back. It want well done.
The deserts are also very limited and just “ok”.
Everything is amazing. Very good experience.
The food, service, and staff is impeccable. The music is quite loud, though necessary to drown out the sounds of the casino a few yards away.
We had to walk a LONG way through the casino (I get it, it’s done on purpose) to get to the restaurant. The casino is loud. The announcers’ voice is EVERYWHERE, even in the restrooms. It’s very loud.
IF I go back, I will put earplugs in before I walk into the building.
Birthday- and waitress brought a cannolis for my daughter which was very nice.
Our server Brittney was fun, energetic and attentive! She made it extremely enjoyable!
Food was fabulous
Food was terrific and very different, which was refreshing. Our waitress was helpful, timely, and added to our meal enjoyment. The noise from the casino was distracting and made me feel like we were in a Food Court in a Mall. However, I would still return as the food was wonderful!
Liam was a great server. Food was wonderful.
Great Service, but don't order the saffron spaghetti..ugh
Let me begin this review with a few words about our server, Sonya. We were dining on a very busy Labor Day weekend night. Sonya has five or six tables and you could tell right away that she was working her tail off. She came to the table and told us it would be a minute or two before she could get to us. We said no problem as we were not in any hurry and were looking forward to a relaxing evening of dining and celebration. She picked up on the vibe and proceeded to walk us through one of our best dining experiences ever. A few well placed suggestions and we were off and running. We began the night with wine and two appetizers. First up was a savory zeppole served with a cheese spread and paper thin prosciutto. The arancini were served piping hot and had some sort of sweet glaze to dinner them. This along with the saltiness of the cheese and prosciutto were a perfect combination of tastes and a great way to kick off the night. Next up Nana’s meatballs which were served in an outstanding sauce and accompanied with warm garlic bread that by itself was to die for.
Were were off and humming at this point and hadn’t even thought of our main dishes which were a center cut pork chop served with peppers and pan seared scallops. We added polenta with asparagus. Simply put a great meal that I would love to be eating again right now.
We had read in other reviews about the sorbets and decided we had to try two. They were the pistachio and the chocolate. OMG super large portions and some of the best sorbet I have ever tasted. On top of this Sonya and management surprised us with a cannoli with a candle in it to put topping on this anniversary celebration.
We can not say thank you enough for a great meal on a very busy night where Sonya never made us feel rushed. Already looking forward to our next visit.
Inventive and interesting takes on Italian food recipes. The beef carpaccio, meatballs, and zeppola appetizers are all outstanding. The rigatoni was very good. Wonderful service, Italian draft beer, nice wine menu... what is there not to like?
The oyster are
Service was great, food was very good. We were seated and served promptly even though they were very busy our food was served quickly.
Overall good but not great! One meal the scallops were excellent! The halibut average at best. Was not flaky and a bit mushy. Server was attentive and very professional.
Outstanding restaurant! This was our first time at Cal Mare and it was amazing. We started off with Nana's meatballs which were, by far, one of the best we have ever had! From the drinks to our entrees, everything was top notch and the service was impeccable. We will definitely be back! Thank you.
Made reservation and were not allowed to be seated because reservations were not allowed although the restaurant was empty.
Dinner was amazing. Service was just as good. Our group of six had dinner before the concert. When we arrived our servers asked if we were going to the concert. Our server made sure we were not late for the concert nor did we feel rushed. I would recommend Cal Mare to anyone. PS Make sure you check out the gelato for dessert.
We had a very nice dinner and celebrated our anniversary. Food was good. I would recommend the meatball appetizer. My husband and I both ordered pasta specials. They were tasty. Service was excellent. Drinks are on the pricey side.
As a nice touch we received an anniversary card and a complementary cannoli to share which was delicious.
Very pleasant surprise. Overshadowed by The Chandler next door, but it secretly has better food. Almost a hidden gem
Honestly had such an amazing meal !!! My waitress Amanda made our experience even better her recommendations were perfect!
Everyone must order the oysters they are so refreshing and definitely the zeppole’s they were to die for !
The squid ink pasta was so fresh and so well seasoned
And the portions are by no means small!
Liam was a great server! Dinner was great
