Cal Mare is a seafood focused restaurant created by chef/partner Adam Sobel in collaboration with Michael Mina and MINA Group. It will be located on the ground floor of the newly designed Beverly Center in Los Angeles. The restaurant will celebrate coastal Italian cuisine while featuring California’s bountiful ingredients and authentic southern Italian cooking. The menu will highlight several varieties of fish from both the Mediterranean and Pacific Ocean, as well as fresh handmade pastas and brick oven pizzas.

My husband and I were celebrating a special occasion. We enjoyed the options chosen by the chef and were delighted with the selections that began arriving. Everything was crisp, fresh and delicious. The setting is colorful and clean. I would definitely recommend CalMare!

Exceptionally gracious and cheery staff. Oysters were fantastic, sommelier did a great job pairing for me — champagne (who knew? Of course with the oysters but I would not have guessed with the whole roasted turbot too). Very patient with my finicky daughter, who in the end loved her pizza. My only complaint is that the fish, at market price, cost me a whopping $100 and I didn’t know until the check came.

The service and staff were super friendly and engaging. We got a special visit from executive chef Joe Sasto which was an awesome surprise. We did the 6 course tasting menu and loved everything we tried.

Well execute dishes with bright, fresh flavors. Amberjack crudo, mushroom ragu, squid ink tagliatelli were all excellent. The staff were well trained, each proficient in their role, courteous, and knowlegable. One of our favorite dining experiences during our trip to LA.

This is a great way to expand your horizons past either traditional Italian or traditional California seafood cuisine. The appetizers, primi piatti and main courses are all just unusual enough that you might feel a little bit lost looking at the menu but everything from the sand dab appetizer to the whole fish split amongst your party is creative, very flavorful and beautifully presented. Lobster thin crust pizza with a dollop of cool burrata? Sure, why not? Wine list very unique, although I’m not really a fan of having the sommelier open and taste at his own station away from the table. I would definitely request a booth to be able to see all of the LA action which is always a great show. We would definitely return and try any number of dishes we have not really seen on any other menu.

Slow Service, pretentious staff, bland food (can't believe it would actually be possible to remove the flavor of some of the ingredients in the different dishes). If you like being overcharged for poor, arrogant service and small, unflavourful, food portions, then this is the place for you!

Start to finish excellence! Zeppole with prosciutto, caramelized onion, and honey to go along with fresh mozzarella a must. House made pastas, pizzas and fresh fish amazing! Definitely going back to try the meats next time!

My husband and I had an absolutely fabulous meal at Cal Mare. For dinner we started with the Braised Baby Octopus, which was perfectly cooked, and we also shared the Yellow Fin Tuna crudo which was so delicious. My husband then had for his main course the Egg Yolk Bucatini which he adored and I had the Tagliatelle al Nero which I could have every day for dinner if I could. What was the most surprising was the simple but outstanding dessert of Harry's Berries with the 25 year old balsalmic. It was the perfect ending to a perfect meal!

Waited too long for appetizer which took +50mins and then another 30mins for the main! The kitchen had real issues. If they continue to make diners wait an hour for food, they will be out of business!

We were in Los Angeles for a conference and decided to take in a great meal our first night on site. Cal Mare rolled out a perfect "red carpet" for the four of us. We started with several snacks. The Squash Chips were just the right balance of creamy and crunchy--the ricotta cheese makes the dish. The Stuffed Peppers were divine, warm, and filled with seasoned meat and cheese. The favorite, however, was the Potato Focaccia Pinwheel. This savory "cinnamon roll" was covered with decadent Parmigiana Fonduta. Couldn't get enough. Then, to top all of it, we enjoyed Mozzarella and Caviar. Although we settled for the cheaper Trout Roe to save $, it was still a party in our mouths and totally worth the splurge. For entrees, we had a Margherita Pizza, NY Strip, and a Whole Branzino fish. The pizza was okay--nothing extraordinary--but the steak and fish were prepared perfectly. We also had the Brussels Sprouts, which were really delicious with garlic and butter overtones and nicely roasted, and the Crispy Smashed Potatoes--yum! The whole evening was narrated by the excellent Metro who gave us useful recommendations and activated our palettes before we ever took a bite. We wanted to take him home with us!

Having eaten at several Michael Mina restaurants, we had high expectations for this restaurant. We were very disappointed on every level. Because of construction, you enter the restaurant from a parking garage, however, that entrance seemed oddly appropriate for this restaurant's ambiance, or more correctly, total lack thereof. Picture a strip mall family Mexican restaurant with phony bougainvillea hanging from the ceiling. Keep in mind that it's suppose to be Italian.
The wait staff acted like they couldn't wait for their shift to be over. Absolutely no personality. We ordered 2 entrees and a side dish. My dinner was served. About 3 minutes later, our side dish was served. After about 3-4 more minutes we had to ask for our other entree which came about 5 minutes later. By that time, my entree had cooled off. My dish was oxtail bucatini but the oxtail meat was almost non-existent.
We are accustomed to paying this price range but certainly not for the lack of atmosphere, service personality/responsiveness and unimaginative food found at this restaurant. Perhaps the food and service can be improved but the ambiance is simply and wholly non-existent.
In summary - don't bother with this restaurant. Michael Mina - not up to your standards. Too bad for you - too bad for us.

Not the sexiest location at the moment, but definitely one of the best dining experiences I’ve had in LA...and I eat out a lot. Also, I should note that the service is impeccable and the kitchen was able to modify the orders for my picky dinner guests.

A good choice if you have a large group and probably the rich patriarch or matriarch is gonna pick up the tab because the restaurant can accommodate large groups and the menu has enough "safe" stuff for the less adventurous family members while still also having more adventurous stuff. Also a good choice if you're like older and trying but not trying tooooo hard to impress a date who is somewhere halfway between vapid and legitimately cultured.

Customer service was amazing across the board. Host stand, bartender, servers and food runners. The food was outstanding. We tried 6 different items on the menu and split them between 2 of us. 10/10 we will be back and likely become regulars.

Food is amazing. Joe Sasto, the exec chef is on Top Chef right now and his food matched the hype. They had an impressive bourbon/whiskey list too. The ambience however was cheesy and the fact that it's in the Beverly Center made it hard to park and find the entrance, especially with so much construction. Also, the food was very delayed coming out - and our first course was a crudo!

It's odd that at fish restaurante, the catch of the day was not available... It was only in the menu - and appeared in the account! After complaining, it was removed from it.
Burrata was not available either. Had to call the waiter many times for him to see us. Disappointment.

This new restaurant needs to get their act together in the kitchen....very, very slow and many dishes were bland and boring. I'd pass on the sand dabs, braised octopus, and the farinata pancake. The two noteworthy dishes were the pasta and the branzino. Service from waitstaff was very good. Reception did not react to special notes in reservation despite requests on original reservation and confirming it on telephone day before dinner!!

The food: outstanding - get the mozzarella & caviar and the branzino (both big enough for 2)
The ambiance: they could lose the fake bougainvillea over the bar, but otherwise: gorgeous. The outdoor patio looks like it could be fun too.
The service: very good (not great). But they redeemed themselves at the end with a bonbon and some limoncello.
The location: eh. Maybe it will improve once the rest of the mall is fixed up.
