Pleasant place with fairly good food and good staff. This was my second time there in a week and both times the timing was off on the drink orders and the food. The last time we were there it took forever to get our drinks and they came one at a time. We were told the bar was backed up. Not a good excuse with a half empty restaurant on a Sat night. I wish them well but probably won’t rush back anytime soon
The apps we ordered were boring and bland. Main course was better.
We went to Cal Mare because i had a travel zoo voucher. The waiter was good, and we ordered two appetizers: the pin wheel and the chickpea/shrimp pancake. Those two were creative dishes; i was impressed with the pancakes, it was almost Korean in flavor and had carmelized onions. I would recommend givng that a try. The complimentary rolls were fresh and doughy, and the olive oil was on point. I also ordered the Grilled Branzino, which was very tasty and good. The three cheese pizza was good and had a garlic flavor, but some of my friends felt it was heavy. The pasta dishes (lobster with noodles, pasta with broccolini, and the Ravioli) were kind of mediocore. I'm glad i had the expereince, but maybe it was a little overpriced.
We were a high maintenance table and Metro and our server gave us such incredible service. The kitchen accommodated our dietary restrictions without fuss. We had a great time! Terrific wines and the Amaro cart is a must!
Excellent service. Octopus appetizer was outstanding, as was the branzino.
Happy hour wine prices were amazing. Manager Met is the best.
They ran out of lobster even though the restaurant was no full and was only open for 1.5 hrs.,,,out potatoes were cold. service slow..was given pepsi when i specifically asked for coke. staff friendly but the left hand does not know what the right hand is doing. food took forever to come out as well as bread. too bad.
We were seated and ordered by 7:15. Our dinner was not served until 9:20 with no acknowledgment of how slow the kitchen was.
Our second visit to Cal Mare. Great original recipes, based of a farm-to-table Italian/Mediterranean approach, with a fantastic bar and wonderful service make this a favorite; one which we are excited to return!
Amazing food, ambiance, staff, just everything! Top-notch service from start to finish. The food was absolutely amazing. The chef is an excellent representation of the restaurant. The staff was knowledge, helpful, and accommodating. One of the best places for Italian cuisine! Would recommend to anyone!
I’ve been to Michael Mina restaurants in Baltimore and in Los Angeles a number of times tho not a big fan. We had the chefs choice tasting menu. Each dish / course strives for something creative but outcome was confused dishes with no achievements to boast of. Setting is also a casual mall restaurant which still reminded me of the previous operators who offered more modest pricing. Would not return and wouldn’t recommend eating $30+ entrees in such setting.
Absolutely fantastic! Outstanding food and service, the pasta were homemade and so delicious (chicken bolognese). Highly recommend it.
Was pleasantly surprised at just how good the food was. The trio of sides was amazing. I am not a fish person but stepped out of my comfort and had the grilled branzino. It was the best fish dish I’ve ever had.
We ate there maybe 9 months ago - when the original chef was still there (I only discovered the change only AFTER this visit). While the experience was pleasant, the food was uneven IMHO. And I recall the flavors being more vibrant in the seafood - and the sauces. The smoked tuna belly-rigatoni disk rocked, but the lobster spaghetti was very invisible, flavor-wise. Perhaps the new chef needs to get his mojo going.
Phenomenal Food and Drinks!!
Food & service was good overall. It was just irritating that table next to us was loud. Actually just one lady who made her presence known & showed she is VIP because the chef & some staff greeted her table. I hope your kids’ menu are priced way cheaper.
This has to be one of the best Happy Hours in LA. It's all night at the bar - every night; that's a recent change, we were told. Great wine selections at $6/glass. Given the bottles start at $50, these are real deals. Nice small plates. We had the arancini and the cauliflower. Very professional bar tender (a shout out to Amanda), nice service all around. We ordered two regularly priced entrees that were also excellent - the branzino with potatoes and the seafood pasta - with smoked tuna and guanciale. We topped it off with a lovely Meyer lemon limoncello and a made-in-house blackberry sorbet. Yes, on ground floor of the Beverly Center - weird but true. And definitely open during the Center's Massimiliano Fuksas make-over. Much lovelier and better ambiance than the online photos show. We'll return soon!
Amazing food and a must visit when you are in Los Angelas!!
We used the TravelZoo voucher $60 for $100 value and it was definitely a bargain. Great food, ambiance and my wife and I loved the Italian Mediterranean menu and ambiance. Their seafood and pasta were amazing!
Great food and service...Everything is delicious but the fish in particular is exceptional.. It was easy to book for a big group of 10.. they also have a kids menu and high chairs..
Kyle is helpful and friendly. Great food and place.
Outstanding food!!! Loved every dish.
The decor is horrible and the tables are arranged too far apart - the place feels cavernous.
The bad design does not fit the excellent food.
Kyle did a great job!
Just loved it. Definitely will go back soon!
We went to Cal Mare specifically for the pasta and the pasta did not disappoint. But there was so much more to love than just the pasta. We also ordered the whole friend red snapper which was delicious. Our server was very knowledgeable and helped pace our meal as we needed to be at a show right after dinner. Even with our request to keep things moving quickly nothing felt rushed. Pair all of that with some great wine and it was a fantastic meal.
Amazing meal and great service. Tasting menu was out of this world. Can't wait to come again.
Overpriced menu and wine list for a mall restaurant.
Other than the pizza crust and the focaccia pinwheels, the food was mediocre. The sommelier (I believe his name was Metro) was incredible and the waiter was helpful however there was a woman who was either an asst. GM or shift manager who was unbelievably condescending and rude. She talked down to my girlfriend after we sent back the Carbonara Pizza. It went from far too salty to practically flavorless. When we gave that opinion, she spoke to us as if it was our fault and wouldn't leave well enough alone. We were celebrating a family member visiting LA and this meal put an absolute sour note on the entire weekend. I have no intention whatsoever of returning to this restaurant.
Located in Beverly Hills, Cal Mare is a cozy, coastal-Italian restaurant. The high price point means this may be a restaurant for a special occasion, but it is more than worth the price. The restaurant includes an open kitchen design (so you can see the chefs in the kitchen) as well as a sommelier that can help you decide on a wine and allows you to sample their selection. I highly recommend getting one of the pasta dishes while you are there. We had the pappardelle and agnolotti dishes and they were both heavenly! The fish is also delicious; we had the branzino dish. I will definitely be coming back to this place.
Been touring restaurants helmed by Top Chef contestants and while all of them have been very good, everything about Cal Mare was outstanding. It has been a while since I've been t a place that left me wanting to tell everyone I knew that they had to go here.
The salad, the carbonara pizza, the smoked butter served with the fish and the tiramisu ice cream were all fabulous. Plus for a place with such quality, the prices weren't bad. Plus when was the last time you were served bread and didn't have to order or pay for it? Service was kind, quick and unobtrusive. I'm not big on atmosphere, food is more important, but I loved the brightness of the room and the fact that the tables weren't too close together.
Cal Mare was so good, I wanted to go back the second I walked out the door.
My friend and I were really impressed with the restaurant. We had an outstanding experience. The food, ambience, service all exceeded our expectations. We are still dreaming of the Carbonara pizza. Looking forward to going back!
Amazing creative delicious Italian food. One of the best if not the best in Los Angeles
The restaurant rather formulaic - central bar, open kitchen, contemporary seating - which you would expect from a Mina Group restaurant. The food was unexceptional; not bad, but not worth the price. The bar looked very good.
My new favorite restaurant in LA. The service is outstanding, you can tell that the Michelin trained chefs care about the entire experience. Their chicken, for being a fish restaurant, is also exceptional. Also get the pasta-baked branzino. I really enjoyed the entire experience from start to finish. I will definitely be back!
Food was outstanding, excellent atmosphere, great staff.
Great food. Great service. Great place. Great everything. Looking forward to going back again soon.
Saturday evening date with wife. Great service, great food.
Great food, chill vibe, attentive wait staff. All around great spot!
Food & service was great.
We had dinner here as it was near our hotel in LA. We both had the lobster for main.... at US$65.00 we were shocked to be served what was the size of a shrimp!!!... and about 4 bites!!!!
EXPENSIVE & TOTAL RIP OFF!!!
Not recommended at all!!!
Girl who served us was very good
