Caffe Pinguini Ratings and Reviews
We have been enjoying Caffe Pinguini for 20 years as we recall and unfortunately, this dinner was one to forget. From the inappropriately dressed hostess who didn't greet us with other than "Name?," to the busboy who addressed us as "amigos" and rushed to noisily clear our plates before or as soon as we took the last bite, we felt anything but the relaxed, warm Italian atmosphere one would expect. The food was good quality but came out too quickly to digest between courses. For the prices, we would expect more of a fine dining experience, not fast food. We encourage the management to address these issues and return to better standards.
This is a great restaurant for Italian food and the service was great. Unfortunately I cannot say the same about the manager/owner. They were not very friendly upon our arrival and gave us no option other than sitting in the outside patio when there were plenty of open tables inside. They should tell you in advance before arrival that your only option is outside so you can plan accordingly and bring a jacket.
I went there with a small group of family and friends for my sister's birthday, and LOVED IT. The food was perfect. Everyone devoured their meals (and there are a few of us who habitually leave half the plate). The waitstaff was just right - friendly and fun. My sister had the filet and it melted in hermouth. My friend had the gorgonzola pasta and was in heaven. The Chilean Sea Bass was spot on. We all can't wait to go back.
This was my third dinner at Caffe Pinguini, but will be my last. Prices are high relative to portion and quality. The noise level inside the main dining room makes conversation virtually impossible. After shouting at my two dinner companions throughout the appetizer and main course, we left immediately afterwards and had dessert and espresso at Salerno Beach Italian restaurant , which is a short walk away.
It was a table for four. The two ladies each had the Chilean Sea Bass on the " specials tonight" menu, the other gentleman also ordered a special Oso Boco. I was the only one to order off their regular menu, and I had a really good veal dish. All the food was very good, the only problem was a slow kitchen and luke warm vegetables.
Enjoyed a tasty dinner Saturday night - the place was really busy. We sat inside for the first time
and found it way too loud for normal conversation. This could have been due to the two large Birthday celebrations taking place next to us...the guests were very animated and loud. Will request outdoor seating next time.
We enjoyed the food and our waiter was amazing. However, while we were waiting to be seated, a fight almost broke out between patrons and the staff. There was much yelling, swearing, and loudness . While are waiter apologized, we literally had to wait to be seated until the fighting died down and the people left. I think we could have been offered something complimentary to know the owner (who was in the fight) was regretful about the situation. Also, this was our first wedding anniversary and my request on the online booking was ignored and not accommodated.
we discovered this restaurant about a year ago because it is hidden away a bit. Very frankly it has become our local favorite restaurant. their daily soup, appetizer, pasta, fish and meat specials have all been terrific and are a great enhancement to the regular outstanding menu. Just last Saturday night I thouroughly enjoyed their white bean with vegetable soup before their osso bucco served on a wonderful rissotto while my wife and a friend shared an arrugala salad followed by a simple linguini pesto. The fresh homemade bread is wonderful.
