Caffé Greco, Melbourne’s iconic dining institution and meeting place, is reopening after three decades in Oakleigh. Its origins trace back to the inspiring story of Nick Madalena, a Greek man who journeyed to Rome in 1760, founding the original Caffè Greco, which has since become a revered national institution in Italy, celebrated for over 260 years. This tale of migration and the pursuit of a better life is what motivated Nick Zampelis to establish a Melbourne branch of Caffé Greco, continuing a legacy of cultural exchange and community that spans centuries.

As Melbourne’s own Caffé Greco reopens, it draws from this rich heritage of bringing together diverse minds, continuing the tradition of being a cultural meeting point where patrons can not only enjoy fine coffee but also engage in the kind of conversation and creativity that defined its Roman predecessor.

Amazing lunch - tables clean & tidy and staff attentive. Food incredible and brought out in good time- don’t have to wait long, but well paced. Hard to pick between such delicious sounding dishes - but we restrained ourselves. Lamb shoulder was yummy, and the taramasa!

We noticed this new restaurant because of the excellent outfitting and wanted to reward such initiative and investment. We booked a party of 16 plus 2 little ones, for a celebration. We received exceptional service. The food was very good and fresh. Nothing was too much trouble for Caffe Greco team. We will be returning.

Service was great and restaurant vibe was great. Very loud so found ourselves speaking quite loudly all night. Some dishes were great and full of flavour but some of our mains were very salty and made the dish hard to finish. Cocktails and desserts are amazing 🤩 will definitely go back but in terms of overall experience, went in with high expectations and was a little let down by some of the main dishes we ordered tonight. Hopefully better next time.

We were taken to our table and then no one came to.us to get our order we had to call the waiter a few times it wasn't like they forgot us very disappointing

We were 15 of us, the whole group is not happy. 2 days before the reservation I received a text from the restaurant stating that we need to have a set menu which is ridiculous. According to them we all must have the same menu. When it comes to pay the bill, the cashier girl showed us attitudes because we spilt the bill. Never go there again.
