Taste did not equate the price. We had the filet, cioppino, and spaghetti bolonese. The filet cost $38, but had no salt or pepper. The cioppino was $33 but the seafood was not fresh; you can tell the shrimp was from a bag. The bolonese was ok. If you reduce each dish by $10-$15 then the price would equate the quality. I don’t mind paying as long as the quality is there.
The food was pretty tasty, but the wine selection was really bad. Tried three different reds and couldn’t drink any of them. I got the feeling they were trying to save money by not getting something better than 2 buck chuck. This place has a lot of potential if they’d just go the extra mile.
Thank you for your review, I am sorry that we didn't have wine that you liked. My Robert Hall Cabernet has 90 points from Wine Spectator, my Pinot Noir has 86 points and the Zinfandel, 91, both from Wine Enthusiast and my Malbec has 86 from Wine Spectator. I try to keep wines at a reasonable price and a decent quality. What red wines do you typically drink? I consult with a certified Sommelier and would be happy to discuss your recommendations with him to see if we can improve in any way.
I especially liked that the server gave my new friend and I the opportunity to get acquainted and enjoy a dish from every category on the menu, appetizer to dessert. All were fresh, tasty and like eating at a loved ones home, comfortable and relaxed.
Best restaurant in Gilroy! Highest quality food! Scallops are especially amazing.
Cafe Thyme never fails to please with beautifully presented and tasteful food. My favorite in Gilroy
Quite surprised at the quality of food and the ambience in our little town!
The food was excellent. We celebrated a birthday, and the desserts were exceptional also.
The salmon was very flavorful, as was the seasoned cooked veggies all sliced at an angle, risotto could have been a meal itself. The bolognese had three proteins in it with sweet baby corn - it too was delicious and two meals worth. We will be going back. A little music in the room would be nice, though.
The food is amazing and the chef is excellent especially for any food allergies or dietary restrictions. We will come again!
It was Wine Down Wednesday, so there was a duo playing blues music, way to loud to carry on a conversation. The acoustics in the room are really bad, hard floor, ceiling and walls. But, Diane does wonders with her food, so we go back and endure the noise level
A hidden gem in Gilroy - great service, great food! Clean and friendly, but lacks ambience.
Absolutely amazing! The food was outstanding and the service was remarkable! My husband and I will definitely be going back.
What does it mean if you are still talking about your dinner a week later??
We 3 came together to celebrate our friends' birthday and we had a blast. Friendly, thoughtful, attentive service ... delicious, creative, inspiring, seasonal cuisine ... and wonderful desserts. We had a visit and a fine chat with the chef/owner who is so committed to the Gilroy community.
Gorgeous fresh huge Sea Scallops, right from the ground fresh beets for salad, and creamy risotto in addition to Chicken Marsala piping hot. Chocolate, mint and praline flavors for dessert all along with a crisp and understated white wine.
Timing was great for each course. Glasses refilled without muss. And a whole variety of clientele enjoying themselves likewise.
It's a gem. It's a keeper. Now, when will you be going?
Excellent chicken Marsala and scallops. Great local restaurant. Loved the lemon sangria too. Gilroy locals must dine here!
Why did we wait so long to try this local gem? Our new Gilroy favorite!
We loved our early dinner at Cafe Thyme. The restaurant is lovely, the food was delicious and the staff was delightful. We went on a Wednesday and enjoyed live music too! We will definitely be back and soon!
Wonderful food, this caterer turned restauranteur has some delightful offerings beautifully prepared. The best fine dining Gilroy has to offer.
The food is great. Corn fritters excellent. Everything very fresh.
The vegetables were outstanding, however the salmon and shrimp had a fishy taste. Probably not the best choice to order fish in a farming community.
The food is amazing and fresh! Service was both warm and friendly. Everything was so flavorful, especially the shrimp and ravioli. We can't wait to return.
Salad was very unimaginative. But the main course was the short ribs and they were very tasty.
Even though there were several empty tables we were taken to a totally under table so they had to set it as they went. Never did get the flowers. Small details but important
Never judge a book by its cover.. curb appeal is lacking but the food, service and ambiance more than make up for that. I choose this wonderful little gem for my birthday dinner last weekend and they did not disappoint. I will definitely be back for more.
Great local restaurant, local waitress/waiters, local owner, wonderful fresh food. Great Instagram page full of wonderful plates of delicious food with updates on new menu items everyday (on what we missed!) as we can’t eat there EVERY night tho I can wish that. Will definitely be back and looking forward to all the seasonal dishes t/o the up coming years. Thank you for a terrific meal.
Food and service is excellent. The menu has something for everyone. Portions are just right. If you are not familiar with the area you may drive right past. Definetly worth a visit.
The quality of the food was very good but the food did not come out at the same time. The service prep professionals we are very friendly and helpful but to justify your prices, The food needs to come to the table at approximately the same time.
6 of us met for dinner this past weekend. Appetizers were very good as were all entrees. Highly recommended for good local cuisine.
This is our third time for Cafe Thyme. Everything was excellent.
Definitely a neighborhood gem where I heard many are happy to travel for. The food quality is deliciously fresh, organic, locally grown. Great attention to detail renders perfectly cooked and delicious food. Amazing flavors in all the dishes our party tried. We were pleasently surprised especially since the location is a little strip mall you r likely to miss, but dont let that fool you, these folks can cook to match any high level restaurant. Please note this is not a "fast food" restaurant, each item is delicatelly developed and it takes time to do so. Make sure you dont wait till you r starving to get there, rather go and enjoy a great glass of local wines and great bread and butter while you wait. We will be visiting this restaurant regularly.
Food and service was amazing. We were there to celebrate a friend’s birthday. The atmosphere needs to be a little more cozy and comfortable. Seems a little sterile.
The place had great reviews so we thought we'd try it out. For only having tables occupied, the noise level was high, service was slow and the food was ok. The ambiance was lacking.
Very pleased with our dinners and desserts. There was an office party there but we benefited from the Gilroy High School Choir singing a least a dozen Christmas songs. Don’t know why it wasn’t more crowded.
Was looking for a place to bring a friend for her birthday and before seeing a show... found Cafe Thyme and really glad I did! The food was excellent... fresh, tasty, and original. I had the gnocchi with bacon in a blue cheese cream sauce that was heavenly and my friend had the fish tacos and really liked them as well. Our waitress was friendly and the owner, Diane, came out and chatted with us a bit... it was a most enjoyable evening. If you're in the area, do check them out... you won't be disappointed! ;)
Outstanding food and attention to detail.....
Great food in an unexpected location, please don't be put off by the simple mall setting off of a large street - the food is definitely worth going through the front door! Decor is simple but ambiance is quiet and great when you go to dinner with friends wanting to catch up - no need to yell over loud music or other patrons!
Best food in Gilroy! The service is always personal and excellent. The only thing I would suggest is some noise baffling with wall or ceiling hangings, area rugs.
Found the place through opentable, very pleased with the food. Came after a day at a local festival.
Picky eater kids liked all the choices, very fresh ingredients. We would definitely come her again.
Really enjoyed Cafe Thyme. The food is excellent, delicious, and beautifully presented. Our Waiter, Owner and daughter were very nice and friendly to speak with and learn a little about their restaurant. We will definitely return, as I enjoyed the great service and attention, which is harder to get these days in Morgan Hill.
Kind of an odd location but good food maybe something needs to be done with the acoustics but over all it's a little gem
This was my first visit and it was delicious. I had the Chicken Marsala and it was excellent. I will definitely be back.
My husband and I love Cafe Thyme. Always a fresh and creative menu. Would love if they included cocktails with their wine and beer menu. Our favorites are the soups and the homemade gnocchi that melts in your mouth. Go hungry because the portions are more than adequate.
Service has always been very good!
