Cafe Soriah Ratings and Reviews
Soriah has been my 'go to' for special occasions for years. We love the middle eastern dishes and the elegant yet casual atmosphere. Gluten free and vegetarian options always available. So glad they were able to expand the seating area to allow for less crowded seating and quiet conversation. The patio is also a wonderful option in the warmer months, and its heated for the more adventurous.
My husband had the rack of lamb and I had the vegan eggplant dish. Both were excellent. We highly recommend this place. The lighting level was a bit high but maybe that’s how Eugene folks likes it. Other than that it was really really good. The wine list was good as well plus they have a full bar.
Had a wonderful meal here while in town for a long weekend. Food was great and the service, especially the chef was fantastic. The prices are very reasonable including their wine list but we did have to wait a bit for our entrees. We loves the spicy garlic shrimp appetizer. Could have mad that a meal they were so good. Loved the Souvlaki too.
I was very disappointed as this was a highly recommended restaurant. I was surprised by the lack of interest in me as a customer--was waiting several minutes just to be greeted, told to sit 'just anywhere' (why make a reservation?), slow to be given a menu, the waitress didn't seem to know or care anything about the menu, and it was 45 minutes before I received my order. The lamb soulvaki was good--nice crust, good seasoning, lovely yogurt sauce--but the spicy shrimp was literally too spicy to eat. While I might not be a chili head who drinks ghost pepper sauce, I do like hot and spicy. This was inedible. The waitress did not ask how the food was but simply provided a take home box. Bad assumption. As for the ambiance, the music was incredibly loud. So as an out-of-towner with no loyalty to a local favorite, I am hoping this was just a bad night for the cook. As for the poor service, maybe it is endemic to Eugene, so they don't know it should be better.
This is my very favorite Eugene restaurant so where else would I go to celebrate my birthday! It was great. I had the lamb tangine which was absolutely delicious--tender, perfectly seasoned, mouth-watering! We had the most incredible calimari appetizer with capers and the jalapeño on the side (it is quite spicy). And the salad was delicious. And a baklava for dessert. What a birthday feast! Service was great, too.
The kitchen was extremely slow. We were told by our server that the restaurant added a room with a number of additional tables, but did not increase the size of the kitchen. The kitchen simply could not manage the number of orders they were receiving. After an hour of waiting, we received our entrees which were very good. The server did proactively credit my 2 glasses of wine and thanked us for being patient.
Fabulous meal at Cafe Soriah. We each had a half salad (Caesar, goat cheese and pear), both excellent. Our entrees were the signature steak diane, and rib eye, which came with mashed potatoes and seasonal vegetables, and wonderfully tasty sauces. Dessert was a sponge cake, and a chocolate mousse, lovely with a custard layer and whipped cream. Portions were large (and we can eat a lot!). We chose to eat inside as it was a warm night, and it was quiet and special. Outside looked lovely and did fill up. Service attentive and professional. We cannot fault this experience. We had enough food left over for a meal the next night with some added vegetables, so while prices are in the higher range for Eugene, we loved it and got two dinners. One of the best meals we have had in years, you don't find this too often.
This is my favorite restaurant in Eugene, I've spent many birthdays out on the back patio over the years. This year was a "biggie", had a group of 10 and it was lovely, delicious, they took SUCH good care of us, and we could watch Ib fixing dishes at his outdoor burners (main plates as well as desserts flambe!). This is one of Eugene's premier restaurants, but comfortable for any occasion, and not prohibitively priced, elegant and comfortable. Incredible attention to details.
Café Soriah has always had such great reviews. We had reservation for patio dining and they wanted to seat us inside at table near kitchen. After waiting well over an hour 20 minutes our food arrived on stone cold plates. Just disappointed with food and obviously understaffed in kitchen. Will be awhile before giving Cafe Soriah another try.
