Edinburgh's hidden gem! Traditional oyster bar and restaurant serving fine food and a great selection of continental lagers, beers and local ales.

We're proud of our history without being complacent and we love to see a happy customer. We've always focused on making our pub unique and we are sure you will notice. So pull up a seat, take a tour round our pub and discover what sets us apart from the rest.

** Please note all bookings are for our restaurant, we offer first come first served for drinks in our bar area.

*** Please note due to licencing restrictions under 18's are not permitted in the main bar, we can seat under 18's and over 5's in the restaurant for dining. We cannot allow under 18's in the restaurant after 10pm.

**** As we are a listed building we do not have Accessible toilets on the ground floor.

We had an awesome dinner experience here! Service was excellent, food was delightful and the space was gorgeous!

We’ve eaten at Cafe Royal a few times so it was an obvious choice when meeting an old friend. As usual the service and ambiance were very good but on this occasion the food was disappointing and gave the impression that Cafe Royal was trading on its name and reputation rather than providing the high quality of food we had been expecting. We will be eating elsewhere in future.

Kudos to Jennifer for her 100% commitment to explaining the menu and making appropriate suggestions. Food was perfect as was the selection of beverages. Rapid service for someone dining between trains.

Been to the bar area many times over the years, but had always fancied trying out the restaurant, with their speciality of course being oysters, and seafood. Bar staff for our pre drinks was unfriendly and had an arrogance about him. Then once seated in the restaurant were told they had no oysters, no seafood platter and no lobster thermidor. Call it first world problems but there was an expectation that an oyster bar would have oysters. Needless to say, we left without ordering.

We had two main courses - both were very good though we felt that the halibut, at £35, was very over-priced. Cheese board was also very good - no idea what the cheeses were which is quite unusual.
