Edinburgh's hidden gem! Traditional oyster bar and restaurant serving fine food and a great selection of continental lagers, beers and local ales.

We're proud of our history without being complacent and we love to see a happy customer. We've always focused on making our pub unique and we are sure you will notice. So pull up a seat, take a tour round our pub and discover what sets us apart from the rest.

* We are unfortunately not able to accommodate dogs.

** Please note all bookings are for our restaurant, we offer first come first served for drinks in our bar area.

*** Please note due to licencing restrictions under 18's are not permitted in the main bar, we can seat under 18's and over 5's in the restaurant for dining. We cannot allow under 18's in the restaurant after 10pm.

**** As we are a listed building we do not have Accessible toilets on the ground floor.

Beautiful historic pub with lovely mirrors and stained glass windows …Food was good, though It’s a limited menu ..They were out of sticky pudding and I thought some my mussels were a bit desiccated.…My wife’s fish and chips were excellent …It’s busy and loud pub…I think we should have gone into the drop in pub side for drinks only…I would not return again..

Really excellent service and good food, slightly noisy due to the bar adjacent to the dining area but still overall excellent offer.

Very small, crowded and loud. I think I would have preferred to sit in the bar area. Food was good, not great. Server was new and could not answer many questions about the menu or drinks. Would visit again but sit in the bar area which appeared more spacious and fun.

It was very good although we felt very pricey for size of the portions. But recommend it anyway. A great place.

The menu seemed much more restricted thasn usual, although we both found an excellent main course. We both had pudding. I had the banana toffee creation. I couldbn't eat it. I t was undercooked, stodgy, the candied bananas were at odds with the rest of the confection and the toffee sauce was far too salty. When asked if everything was OK and when I said the pudding was not good, I was met with an uncomfortable silence. If you are going to ask the question, then be prepared to answer if it is not what you want to hear. Otherwise, don't ask.

We had a fabulous seafood platter , it’s enough for two people but only just, if you’re bigger eaters. Great traditional ambience and Sarah our waiter was fabulous!

Hake dish £35. Extremely small portion. Starter size at best. Hake was the size of 2 fish fingers stacked up. Very tasty but……Menu stated, baby leeks and roast garlic potato kiev. Baby leeks were a green smear in the bisque and Kiev was the size of a plumb. My Friend, a Senior with a normal appetite had to stop for a snack on way back to Hotel. We didn’t complain as the dish was what it was. Just didn’t justify the cost. Hake is not an expensive fish. Disappointed and ruined the experience. Other two meals were fine and tasty and worth the cost. Just change that dish🤷‍♀️
