The local restaurant scene has really grown, back in the old days Cafe Roma was the best. Now, it's right up there for the best food but also has maybe the best ambiance in town and the prices are very reasonable - the best of the top tier local restaurants. The service is excellent, the bread is excellent (and they serve butter with it instead of the stupid, IMO, trend of oil and balsamic vinegar), and the food is as good as any I have eaten on the Central Coast. I am an avid cook and love Italian food. This is the real deal.

We love Italian food, but this restaurant was terrible! We had a good table, the service was very good and the wine list was exceptional....but we left half our meals on the table because it was so bad. The restaurant was extremely loud, but this was due to the fact that almost all the tables were full (go figure...).

We come here every year when we are in Pismo Beach for the Jazz Festival. I was disappointed in a couple of things. My husband and I ordered the special tomato soup, which was very good but was warm. They had to take it back to heat it. Everyone enjoyed their entrees, but I was disappointed. I ordered the Veal Marsala and it was not what I expected. The Veal was a bit tough and the sauce was not a rich Marsala sauce; it was watery and I could barely taste the Marsala wine. It was not what I would expect from a restaurant of this caliber.

Very good value for the wine. One of the best carbonara I have had. Very northern Italian. Service was excellent and friendly without being too friendly. Very quiet for a Friday night as we ate outside.

We were visiting our son for parents weekend at Cal Poly and took him to Cafe Roma for dinner, based on an online description. We were suspect when we got there. It's not much to look at and right near the train station. However, we were immediately pleased when we got in to see a bustling restaurant. Our waiter was perfect, pleasant and attentive. The food was wonderful. We will definitely return on future trips.

Nice meal with our son and his roommate while visiting during Cal Poly's parent weekend. Food was great. Atmosphere was nice. Service could have been a bit faster and less "sales pitch" like. Overall a good experience, but a bit pricey.

Café Roma is positively a define culinary experience! Truly authentic Italian food; amazing wine list and professional, courteous and delightful servers… Ask any of them for wine pairing suggestions and you’ll enjoy a beautiful wine with your dinner… this was truly wonderful experience. Bravo bravo !

Good but not great overall. Was visiting from NorCal and thought we'd try it out. Everything seemed to be off - except the entrees. Every staff member tried to upsell us at every turn (from bottled water to splitting our shared salad onto 2 plates, etc. And the special appetizer (prosciutto wrapped burrata) was cooked - but we weren't told that. Besides the surprise it simply wasn't very good.

Overall a good experience. Our waiter started off strong but disappeared as the night wore on. Cocktail glasses, empty glasses, empty bread plates were never picked up. Gave is one cursory check during dinner but that was it until he tried to sell is dessert. Was hoping for better.

My wife and I try to eat here once a month. We live in Paso Robles, so it is a 30 drive but well worth it. The food is always fresh with cold, crispy salads, excellent dressings, and beautiful main dishes. The staff is always on their game, you never have to wave them down.
The food is very authentic Italian in flavor. The sauces are excellent and not overwhelming.
We like the category listings with choices in salads, pasta and meat dishes. You can adjust your meal according to your appetite.
And don't pass on their desserts.
Great place

We were seated quickly and immediately, service was great! There are gluten free pasta options, which are a great thing to offer for those who think they can't eat out at an Italian restaurant. Everything is fresh and served in a timely fashion! Dessert shared by our table was homemade peach sorbet! Amazing food, amazing experience!

How many times have I dined at Cafe Roma? Many many over the 37 years they have been in town and I've lived here the same length. Someone in the family is always hands-on; it's been in the family for 2 generations. It's the kind of place where a local can always expect to run into other long-time fans of "The Roma". My favorite places to eat are in the bar our outside on the patio. The food can be counted on for consistency and although the menu doesn't change much, there are always a few specials. The wine list is comprehensive including many local selections and it's nice that you can order by the carafe to get less than 750 ml. That's a European thing that more restaurants should offer. There is also a full bar that often offers a featured cocktail.
The food is good and straight forward without fancy presentation, nothing nouveau, just good cooking like your mama would make if your mama was Maria Rizzo.

We were seated 35 minutes after our reservation time and didn't see food arrive until 35 minutes after being seated. The demographics lean toward an older crowd who dine early. By 9 pm the place was almost empty. The food was good , traditional Italian American and the service was good too. The pastas and pizzas are the best items to order.

A long-standing locals favorite. They were pretty slammed the Friday we 4 ate there and were a server short, which made our lovely waitperson Amy a bit frazzled. We changed tables 3 times and the third time worked. First, banquette near the door and within earshot of the clattering in the kitchen. #2 in the back dining room: very noisy! #3 table next to the wall in the entry dining area. We all liked what we ordered, especially the short ribs and the garlic shrimp. Excellent Cadillac margarita! Outside dining would have been quieter but it was filled. Probably not as noisy during the week. Very accommodating staff.

We've been Cafe Roma customers for over 25 years. The meal was fabulous, the service was poor. Once our meal was delivered we never saw our server. We had to ask someone else for fresh ground pepper 10 minutes after we started eating. She didn't return until we were done. We have high expectations for this restaurant and were saddened by the inattentiveness from our server.

We took my 91 year old dad here for dinner, he said that the pizza was the best he had since he lived in Europe. I live in San Francisco, and I think it is better than most of the Italian food I've had in SF, and much cheaper! And the pizza beat anything that I've had in SF. It was a very nice experience, and tasty dinner. We will definitely go back!

The zucchini flowers were at best room Tempe stirred. Had to send back. The tomatoes sauce, thin, watered down and overly acidic.

Eggplant parm suffered from same sauce, was dried out. And you ver all fair at best.

I've all a Big let down, did not live up to its rating and was far below NY restaurants.

The food was good- the service was great- the Gazpacho had peaches In it, & if you aren't aware it could be a bit jarring- But Gaspacho is soup that allows for creativity but next time maybe let people know-The wine list was pretty well rounded and impressive! I will say you can bring a group her to celebrate-Lots of celebrating around us- the patio is nice and cool- and also has heat lamps but we didn't need those-
