we were visiting from Toronto with friends and wanted to find a great spot for brunch which would also be a unique tourist destination. The hotel building which houses the cafe is a beautiful art deco gem.
The neighborhood is fun and vibrant. Definately worth the trip from the west loop!!
This was my second time at Cafe Robey and I choose it for the location, it was easy for my dining companion to reach. The atmosphere is casual and friendly, my experience both times I've been. Service is good, and the food tasty and well presented. I'm sure I'll be back again!
Went for a birthday dinner with a handful of friends and enjoyed everything from the food to the cocktails to the ambiance! Staff was incredibly friendly and took great care of us - complimentary dessert and champagne! Cannot wait to go back!
Food was good. Portions were a bit small for the price you were paying. Service was excellent! I had the biscuits and gravy. Only critique is the biscuits were way too small. I had to order more on the side.
Breakfast salad was light and refreshing. Sausage was delicious. Not fatty. Coffee was very strong and almost bitter. Wait staff was attentive but not overbearing. It was very nice breakfast. I would recommend
Tasty treats await you in this posh styled cafe located at the corner of happening now and what's new and next. Staff is very hospitable, great atmosphere allows you to check out the street action or just focus on your table mates. The Nashville Hot Chicken is fabulous along with many other items from their daily brunch menu make repeat visits a must.
The main reason I really liked Cafe Robey was the ambiance -- nice, quiet, relaxing place, and there aren't too many of those in the city. Overall the food was good, including the delicious smoked trout appetizer. My husband ordered the chicken breast and raved about it. I had the cod, and the sauce was described by wait staff to be "balanced" using a bit of sour from the wine and a bit of sweet from the apple. It was a bit too sour for me, and I happen to enjoy sour foods. Just didn't seem to fit the delicateness of the cod. I would return to try something else.
Great food and service. Loved the ambiance. Will definitely go back again!
Awesome service! Attentive server made it a special night.
Unbelievable food. This is the only place I want to eat now! Great ambiance and service is prompt and lacks pretension
Your experience was good , the waiter was good and attentive , my dinner entree ( salmon ) was warm , as well as the veg ...
Plateing was probably done , then sat a bit ...
That was disappointing, because the restaurant was not busy ...
Not sure I’d recommend , or go back to restaurant .... although the upstairs bar area was very nice and would possibly go back ...
Lots of restaurants to choose in the Chicago area, and based on the previous yelp reviews I was disappointed in our experience...
Café robey is the hip ground floor restaurant of the new(ish) Hotel Robey, housed in a vintage bank building right at the center of Bucktown. Sharing menu had us try the scallops (nicely down), the salmon (ditto) and the steak (a bit tough). No surprise the cocktails and spirit menu was extensive. Lots of millenials around but two couples could converse comfortably throughout dinner. Special shout out to Ashley - a thoughtful and gracious server. We'd go back just for her.
The food was superb. The staff was very attentive and clearly very proud of their offerings. The atmosphere was perfect conversation without having to shout.
Excellent Service and Food ! We had a late lingering lunch here for my mom's birthday and it was perfect !
Fabulous from start to finish. Service was there when you needed it, food was OUTSTANDING. Portions were just right; highly creative mix of veggies with the main event cooked perfectly. Cocktails were outstanding. Ambiance was comfortable with just the right amount of energy. An outstanding addition to the neighborhood food scene.
Great small plates place. Service exceptional. Ambience lovely
Delightful server, solid brunch options, and great coffee.
Food was good. But power went out and waiter forgot if he took our order - they were only 3-4 other tables. Waited 45 minutes for bagel & lox and biscuits & gravy. No discount even when I asked. Very strange dining experience.
I live in Milwaukee and work for a college. We met with a group of 5 graduates of our college for lunch and to talk about Chicago area events. The food was great. Everyone enjoyed it. We all had the iced tea and loved it. I had the omelet (this was March so it may be a different omelet depending on the time of year) and really enjoyed it. Not to filling, it came with a great side salad. The volume was low enough to hear each other easily. The locals all said they plan to come back.
Drove special from Ohio to meet up with friends for brunch. Reserved for 5 people but had to add 2 more people but they will not accommodate. Sat 4 of us by the bar and The rest by a table while the whole time a table was available next to us. The food was average
This was one of the most exquisite meals I’ve had in Chicago. It was hard to choose which dish to order because everything looked fantastic. The wait staff guided us through and offered exceptional service. Every detail was wonderfully curated. The beef was my favorite followed closely by the lemon tarte dessert. Loved it.
The food was great and the service was outstanding! Its a small but mighty menu. The lounge upstairs looks inviting. Highly recommend!!!
The food was great, service was phenomenal, and very fun atmosphere!
The portions are pretty small and the food quality is just average
Interesting and creative menu. Great veggie dishes. Trout rillettes excellent!
Two thumbs up for Cafe Robey! The service was excellent and food was great. They were attentive and gave my husband special treatment because it was his birthday. Do not miss this restaurant, or the view from the Up Room.
The service was amazing. Only surpassed by the food. My favorite dish was the duck. Absolutely to die for.... Hope to be back soon! (Complementary milk and cookies were the perfect night cap!)
Great take on old standards, try the amazing Cuban sandwich- slightly disinterested staff
The signature scent of the Robey is divine, and the avocado toast is exquisite.
Great brunch experience!
We really wanted to love this place. Unfortunately we were disappointed. Overall it’s just okay. Seems the chef maybe is trying too hard. Everything was just so so. The interior is nice, the service was good. In the end it was brown food on brown plates. We may give it another try.
Great atmosphere, great service, pretty average good. Nashville hot chicken was sweeter than spicy and the pancakes were dense and heavy.
Really cool space with great views of the action in Wicker Park / Bucktown. Everything on the menu we ate was well prepared and delicious. Recommend to everyone.
Food was uniquely delicious and unexpected.
It took a while for our food to come out (we were there for brunch) but waiter brought us a treat while we were waiting and the meal was delicious.
Love the cookies and milk!
I’ve been looking forward to dining at the Robey cafe since it opened on my neighborhood, but was waiting until the glitches of a new restaurant would be ironed out. That being said, they haven’t been.
The food was on point and would give it 4.5 stars. We tried panzanella salad, pork belly and the beef dish. Cocktails were above average. My significant other ordered gin and tonic for his second round, and I think the tonic was forgotten. Although the gesture of extra gin is appreciated, he was just looking to have a simple drink.
Service was where Robey fell short. Our server was very pleasant when was present, but failed to check on us for most part. The menu wasn’t explained at all, and was just greeted with: are you ready to order, as if it was a ma-n-pa diner. Salad came out within a reasonable time, but pork belly app took as long as the main course beef dish. Server didn’t check if we needed another round of drinks, and after about 20 min I ended up asking their manager if he minded putting an order in for us. After dinner, another server asked if we wanted to look at a dessert menu and we said: yes. Our actual server just brought back our check without even asking if we were interested in anything else. Having worked in the industry, that’s just rude. Their manager did ask how everything went and apologized for the hiccups, but even with an offer to make it right, I don’t think I will be back; this city has far too many other great restaurants to check out with properly trained high end restaurant staff.
Great food. Nice waiter. Cool bar on the top of the hotel as well!
Robey is a gem, in a changeling sea of hipness.
Left a restaurant across the street, with the food uneaten on the table and took sanctuary at a far better place. Not only was the food far superior, but the staff was great, and welcoming. A great and welcome reprieve from a (we could care less) strange and absurdly loud kiddy corner competitor.
We were happy to leave the former and pay, as the clueless staff could not bother to notice that we were revolted by the food, the staff was clueless and the room was uncomfortably noisy and a “scene”.
Robey felt like a warm vacation spot in the midst of an arctic tundra.
Then the server mentioned the “local’s discount”. This included a 20% savings to maintain a local clientele of more or less regular patrons. Our server mentioned not only the discount, but was happy to know we four lived within 6 blocks and were happy to frequent for great food and service...
We received no discount.
The next visit we met out friend from Majorca at the train and headed in. This would be our second visit.
The server was the same and we reminisced with him of our prior visit and the lovely sanctuary offered from a crappy competitor across the street. He recalled the visit, and again welcomed us.
So when it came to the matter of the bill, server spaced the discount we left it alone lest we embarrass present company.
Upon the third visit (birthday). Four neighbors rendezvous and we enjoyed (so far) our meal during restaurant week. Our conversation elaborated to leave no doubt that we lived nearby and yet when the 3rd bill arrived, we received no discount.
OK. We uncomfortably discussed if we should ask the server about how the discount actually worked...
She explained that during restaurant week the discount advertised outside by zip code now, didn’t apply, to specials, but if we could produce an Amazon receipt or other proof of a living nearby, we’d be given a discount next time.
Embarrassed by the reply, we vowed to never return.
