My favorite Italian restaurant in Palo Alto. The Rigatoni Mancini is the BOMB!
The Greek chicken is our go to dish...
Always a pleasure. Warm greeting, great server, good food, nice facility, easy parking.
We had a great time celebrating my Mom's birthday! The food was delicious no the staff incredibly friendly.
Excellent Duck Confit Salad. No wimpy portions here. Completely satisfying, quiet and friendly too.
My wife and I were in the area and came upon Cafe Pro Bono by chance. It was an extremely please find. We came early and had had a reservation, that probably was not necessary. The food and service were excellent and we would recommend it for anyone seeking a local, authentic Italian restaurant that does it all very well.
My wife and I had dinner at Cafe Probono where we have eaten dinner previously. We shared the Susan's Downfall appetizer, consisting of cheese raviolis in a gorganzola cheese sauce topped with sliced almonds. This was followed by their arugala salad that we also shared.
My wife's entree was a half chicken with some accompanyments while I ordered the rabbit with mashed potatoes and asparagus. Overall, the meal and service were very good. However, I think that some of the items were a poor valus such as the very small half chicken priced at about $24.
This was our first visit to Pro Bono. We were greeted warmly on our entrance to the restaurant and promptly seated at a nice quiet table. Servers were friendly and knowledgeable. Menu was varied and very interesting. Wine list was impressive, tilted heavily towards Italian. We started with cocktails ( ProBono Manhattan is excellent ). Carpaccio appetizer is authentic and tasty. The pasta special was Fruitti di Mare which was excellent. We enjoyed a very nice Valpolicella Ripasso which paired well. A special whipped lemon cream dessert was a light finish to the meal, topped off with black sambuca. We enjoyed our dinner here and will return.
Excellent service and great food! We enjoyed the bruschetta appetizer and delicious pasta with shrimp.
Great service. Attention to gluten restrictions. Good food. Easy parking.
Great Italian food, with great atmosphere in a nice environment with good service. We all enjoyed the food and service. My Italian guests thought it was great
We each had a salad and shared the fusilli pasta dish. Perfect! Very busy at 6:30 pm on a Saturday--glad we had reservations. Excellent staff and service.
Excellent food and service. Met up with an old friend. We were there for lunch over 2 hrs and not once did they try to hurry us out. Will definitely go there again!
Took my 3 teenagers out to dinner on a weeknight on a rare night we were all free and there was not much anticipated homework. I made the reservation 2 days in advance and the restaurant was about half full when we arrived. We were seated in the middle of the restaurant at a very small table. I asked for another table, as there were several open tables for 4, and they said those were reserved. By the time we had our appetizers, entrees, and desserts, there were still open tables. We had to have bread plates and candles removed in order for our appetizer plates to fit on this tiny table. I couldn't use my knife or I would have knocked over my wine. This is usually a family favorite but I have to say, this night the service was not up to their normal standard. Consistency at this place prevents a higher rating for me. Sometimes the food is not quite up to par, sometimes it's the service, this time it was the place itself where we were crammed for space while other spaces were empty.
Our local Italian restaurant that consistently delivers a pleasant atmosphere, quality food and a attentive staff. The owner/manager always remembers us and drops by to say hello. It's the small details that make it fun to come back for a meal
Made a last minute reservation for an impromptu birthday party. It's a lively place and everyone is enjoying themselves. The service is friendly and prompt, they do their best to make you feel like you're a guest.
The food is very good! We had appetizers and dinner. Everyone was quite happy with their meal. We all commented on Susan's Downfall appetizer. It really stood out!
The place was busy and at first it took awhile to get a waiter but when he came the rest of our visit he gave very good service. The menu is well rounded and the food was very good. We
tried the boar sausage app and it was tasty
Superb for lunch or just getting together with someone for drinks, lunch or dinner. Good food with a personal touch. Highly recommend...
We went there to celebrate our daughters new job & my husbands birthday. Place was busy, so service was a little slow but our server was very nice. Food was great we all cleaned our plates.
Reliable food quality. Friendly service. Convenient parking. Fresh ingredients.
Wonderful neighborhood restaurant with great, friendly staff
Always great from start to finish! We come here a lot and it's consistently a favorite.
This restaurant is my favorite Italian restaurant in Palo Alto- it’s convenient, friendly and excellent food. I always get the duck confit salad but I know their other dishes are terrific. The ravioli (I think it’s called susan’s downfall) is a big favorite among friends. The ambience is nice- lively but not too noisy.
Our server was outstanding. Very helpful with menu recommendations, friendly and she checked in just the right amount. The food was delicious. Overall, a very tremendous experience. We went to celebrate my daughter's 18th birthday. She has thanked me several times for taking her to Cafe Pro Bono.
Superb Italian cuisine. The tagliatelle featured house made pasta with a free range chicken that was tender and smokey flavored. The featured special baby kale and beet salad with goat cheese was sublime. Service was outstanding. If you go earlier in the evening the noise level is lower and you'll receive a lot of attention. Highly recommended.
four excellent meals, nicely served. though seated in a "booth," still noisy---but why not? Pro Bono is popular.
We've been to this restaurant many times. The service is always friendly and attentive, the food is yummy and it's a very nice restaurant. You can come dressed up or jeans/nice shirt and not feel uncomfortable. There are some vegetarian options on the menu but I'm not sure any of them are really vegan...would need to ask. But we've really enjoyed every meal we've had here. We highly approve of this restaurant and hope you will try it out too.
Pro Bono is a consistently nice restaurant. We have been there many times and we love the food, the place and the people. They recognize us. They focus on all the details. Even the bathrooms are beautiful and clean. So many restaurants decay over time--this is NOT the case with Pro Bono. It is as good or better than 20 years ago.
My date and I had pasta dishes that were excellent. Service was very good. Cute place that has been around for years. Consistently enjoyable.
Our group of eight loved this place. The food was excellent and the atmosphere was upscale without being snotty.
A nice neighborhood cafe. Never disappointed with meals. Staff is always attentive & friendly.
We have eaten here many times and we enjoy the italian food (especially pasta) and casual atmosphere. On this occasion (Valentines day) the experience was very poor. The menu was limited, with few pasta choices. The salmon dish chosen was undercooked, and when requested that it be addressed, it came back with salmon now done and the other items (like vegetables) had cooled off and were over done. This dish should have been prepared again from start. The degree of normal salmon cooking in this dish should also have been pre-discussed with the customer (even though the actual was rather rare). When we complained, we discovered that there was no owner or manager on point that evening (we asked to speak with one), only the server who spoke only partial english. Therefore, there was no way for this issue to be properly addressed. That was a very big issue for us....no ownership for a customer satisfaction issue situation at all at the restaurant (on a special occasion, no less). Also, when we requested a Chardonnay glass of wine, the server did not review the two choices we evidently had, but rather just assumed and delivered the more pricey one. Again, this server did not and could not properly read their customer. What a really bad experience that evening for us, and therefore our low rating.
Valentines Day. Made special
Cafe Pro Bono exceeded everyone's expectations. I coordinated the evening for our party. None of us had ever been to this restaurant, so we did not know what to expect. Coincidentally, we were there on a very vibrant Valentine's Day evening, which was fabulous. Cafe Pro Bono didn't disappoint.
The owner, Akif Aydin, greeted each patron personally. He handed each lady a red rose. The service was first-class - smooth, accommodating and responsive. The appetizers, entrees and desserts were exceptional. The Italian wine list is superb.
This is both a charming neighborhood restaurant and a destination. It is highly recommended.
Great night at Cafe Pro Bono. Nice decorations for Valentine's Day; filet mignon memorable; salads great, including fresh crab salad; and chocolate desert amazing. Wines pair well
Enjoyed our visit here. Yes, it was next to the courthouse. Service was attentive without being overbearing. Food excellent. Great wine list. Worth repeat visits.
I ordered the Greek chicken with sliced potatoes and a small salad. My entire meal was excellent, as was the service and the ambience.
It was awesome. Food was nice, staff was amiable, atmosphere was terrific.
Love this restaurant! Amazing staff and food is always delicious!
Always delicious. We were moved to quiet room and it was perfect for good conversation. A favorite!
