Great staff & service! Recommend trying to Pork Entree!
The ambiance is lovely at Cafe Pinot. The staff was helpful, attentive, and very professional. I was a bit surprised at how much food I got for what we were paying; I'll be honest. It was a bit modest. The dessert we got was not what we expected and it was quite dry, but the server removed it from our bill without asking, so that was an intuitive and appreciated service move.
I actually really like this restaurant, but the above factors might not make it my regular dinner location. There is a lot to appreciate about this restaurant's location, attitude, and thoughtful menu (they have a menu option for people going to the theatre, to help ensure timely departure for the event).
Would recommend! Everyone has different preferences and it is obvious that a high standard is desired here.
We ordered the pre-event prix fix dinner and though it was delicious, the portions sizes were surprisingly small. When asked, the manager indicated that the small sizes were so people could eat their meal before leaving for the play--we were there at 6 for an 8 pm show, so clearly had lots of time to eat. I recommend ordering off the menu, instead.
Food was awful. Chicken Judori good. Salad and pasta not good. Service confused
The food is good and the service is very friendly. However, the decor is quite outdated and it’s expensive compared to nearby, good restaurants. I had two client meetings there during the same week and picked the location due to its convenience and low noise level (the noise is low because the restaurant is only half full). During both lunches, we ordered two salads and two drinks. No appetizers and no desserts. With tip, the bill was $80 each time. There are a lot of dining choices in downtown LA now, so for the restaurant to thrive, they may want to update the restaurant to match their prices. Or, they should lower their prices to match the current ambience.
Really enjoyed our lunch here! Feels like a nice break from the city to sit on the patio and have a glass of lemonade. Very refreshing.
I absolutely love Cafe Pinot. Cafe Pinot is one of the best places I have ever eaten and enjoyed coming to for many years. However, I will not be returning. Arriving at the restaurant and parking is an absolute nightmare and costly. I went to lunch and no valet, parked in the library and parking was $32 for an hour and half stay. My parking was more than the cost of my meal. I've been lots of time before and was able to park valet (after 6 PM) but if valet is not available, the cost parking outweighs the visit to the restaurant. It's a shame. Cafe Pinot is a gem.
They forgot to check me in under OPEN TABLE. They said they validated and they did not and we had to pay full parking. It took over 30 minutes to figure out how to apply Open Table reward and gift card. mac and Cheese was too salty. Overall, i was very disappointed and this was an anniversary event.
Great food and excellent service!
The waiter Brooke and the manager George were so kind, helpful and made the experience wonderful for me and my dear friends birthday! ;) thank you!!
Good food, great outdoor environment away from all the noise of DTLA but in the middle of it. Maybe we were lucky and hit it on a quiet night, but everything was perfect.
told there was no reservation, then credit card machine not working
It is not often that the food at Cafe Pinot does not measure up. We were served a Caesar salad with brown lettuce which we returned. Then we were served a Caesar salad with tasteless salad dressing. The waitress was kind enough to remove it from our check. The remainder of the meals ordered were excellent.
My husband and I had our first date here almost 8 years ago so since we were in town we made reservations. Everything we ate was delicious and the service was fantastic. Wine selection is great. We ate outside and it is such a cool area. Lots of people watching. We had fun talking with the server and others. Awesome night.
Had a very nice time sitting outside on terrace. Grace was a great server and manager George made sure we had a nice evening.
Café Pinot was very nice and is in a beautiful setting out side of the Library. The food was very good, wine was even better.
Service was great, soup and entree were delicious, dessert was a real disappointment. Would definitely return but skip dessert
Haven’t been to cafe Pinot in a long time... thought we’d try it out for lunch before a theater matinee. So glad we did! Beautiful food. We’ll be back soon!
The service was great as usual. The new manager Hugo was exceptional. Wonderful restaurant and very good food. The only critique I have is they recently started imposing a high corkage fee. Bad vision. Otherwise I recommend this place!
The service was unbelievably poor! We arrived at 1pm, ordered food around 1:20. At 2:15, we still had not been served and one of my guests had to leave. At 2:45 we had to go look for our server in order to pay the bill. I will never dine at Café Pinot again!
Great ambience. The salmon and barramundi were delicious. Great bread.
Grace was our server and she was terrific. Jorge is the manager and he does an outstanding job. They really went out of their way to make it a wonderful evening and dinner for us.
Great outdoor patio
Wonderful service and pleasant ambiance, food was delicious!
We were there for dinner with friends who eat there regularly. We took the Metro and were late. We find them sitting in a magical enclosed patio. This IS downtown LA. We could converse and hear ourselves think — with the exceptions of short intrusions by a police helicopter and the odd emergency vehicle.
The best French Restaurant to wine and dine in the heart of Downtown Los Angeles, Cafe Pinot - warm and inviting outdoor patio, nested in the center of two sophisticated buildings with skyline view of Library Tower and U.S. Bank. The restaurant offers good food, attractive ambience, and cater to your heart content. The best Beignets in town (available two months in a year) and great services from Arissa and the manager, Chriselda Chew. Not to mention reasonable price for fine dining.
Flies were very annoying. Too expensive for the type and quality of food
It was a walk down memory lane for my wife and me at Cafe Pinot as we celebrated our 10th anniversary. The cafe was the site of our wedding reception and was as magnificent for dinner as it was for our wedding. We had the pleasure of being served by Grace who described each dish with detail and finesse - including the vegan tomato bisque and beet salad - both amazingly apportioned and delicious. Naturally, the entrees did not disappoint either as we shared the market fish and cilantro pasta. The manager, Jorge, made our celebration especially memorable by serving us two complimentary glasses of champagne and conversing with us about our 10 years of marriage and the changing downtown scene. I cannot recommend dining at Cafe Pinot especially if the patio is open. Cheers!
Absolutely wonderful - each dish is delicious and beautifully presented - with fresh ingredients; the service and hospitality by everyone, including Chriselda, Tyler, Karen and Arissa, are exquisite; and the atmosphere is so pleasant and professional. I have worked in downtown LosAngeles for many years, and I have recently rediscovered Cafe Pinot - it is now one of my favorite restaurants. It is all because of the people who work there and the wonderfully delicious dishes served so consistently. In addition to this dining, I returned to Cafe Pinot on August 30. It is always a great experience. Thank you to everyone at Cafe Pinot - headed by Chriselda.
Great dinner at Cafe Pinot. Service was excellent. Food was great. Love the ambiance.
I am sad to write that this restaurant was a disappointment. I had not been for several years and used to love it. It was a birthday lunch. Yet we were seated by a large industrial fan with no explanation. The servers were good but when the foos was delivered 1/6 people had to wait to get their food. Also for the 2 course spa menu, the first course salad was overdressed and brought to the table after our main course. One person got the burger which was sadly over cooked. The spa salmon was delicious. They brought 4 strawberry shortcakes to the table for the 4 celebrants, a lovely gesture. Unfortunately they were inedible.
Lastly, and not their fault, parking is a nightmare.
The entire dining experience was wonderful - very professional and yet warm and comfortable. The restaurant GM Chriselda Chew is super - creating a nice, professional and customer-oriented atmosphere with great, attentive service. All of the restaurant staff are so nice, polite, friendly and professional, including Karen and Tyler. Tyler helped and served me in the past - Tyler was nice to remember me on this visit and was so nice and helpful once again. We thoroughly enjoy the dining experience at Cafe Pinot each time. A true gem in all respects! Thank you very much.
This time dining at Café Pinot just didn't do it for me. The atmosphere there is nice but sitting outside, there were some June bugs and other insects which doesn't make for pleasant eating outside. All in all it was not relaxing, coupled with that the food was just okay - expected a little more.
I love this place! Stellar service and a wonderful seasonal menu!
Loved the spa menu of fresh, delicate fish and a wonderful salad with figs and can't leave out the lemonade flavor of the day cucumber basil - absolute perfection!
Sat on patio for with two at your table landing new jobs that day. Really good value for the Summer Grill. Restaurant manager is full of energy and really friendly. She spent some time welcoming us at our table.
Watch the cost of the second glass of wine.
Big bugs and cold food...
Since I was last there, there have been changes, the greatest one being no more valet parking. To make matters worse, the parking information on your website was not correct. Further, traffic into the parking garage was so bad that, although we were there about 15 minutes early, we didn't get into the restaurant for 20-25 minutes. The service was excellent but, since this was a pre-theater dinner, it ended up being much more rushed than it should have been because we also felt that we had to allow more time to get out of the parking garage (turned out that getting out wasn't a problem, but we didn't know that). In addition, I ordered my steak medium rare, but it was served medium well. I didn't dare send it back because of the time element. All in all, it certainly wasn't worth the price or the effort.
Have wanted to visit Pinot for awhile and found an awesome opportunity to go during DineLA lunch. My friend and I enjoyed the meal and the service was very friendly.
The food and service at Cafe Pinot are impeccable, and the ambiance is nice. I had two problems with what was otherwise an excellent experience. First, I was there for lunch during a hot Los Angeles summer day, and the air conditioning was not sufficient to keep the restaurant at a comfortable temperature — the waiter brought a serving of bread and butter, and a couple of minutes later my lunch companion observed that the butter was melting on the plate. The waiters served everyone complimentary dishes of ice cream at the end of the meal to cool us down, but this did not make up for the lack of decent air conditioning. Second, Cafe Pinot added a 3% “administrative fee” to the bill. While I know that some other restaurants in LA also have begun to do this, I think the practice is cowardly — if they want to charge more money to cover their costs, then they should have the guts to increase the price of their menu items instead of adding a separate administrative fee.
The food is always good but there was no air conditioning on a very hot day, flys were flying all over and near the window were ants climbing up and down the seat. Service was also slow.
