Cafe Pinot Ratings and Reviews
Cafe Pinot is always high quality, in service, setting, and food. I tend to choose it for business lunches because we can eat outside under the shadow of umbrellas and enjoy the beauty of the warm Southern California day, in an atmosphere with virtually no room noise to cover the conversations. I especially like the salads, and most especially the Salade Nicoise.
To start out on a really positive note, the food was fantastic! The kitchen is artfully placed as you enter and one can view the preparations through a glass window. Nice touch. The Artichoke dip was the best I have had with fabulous bread. I ordered the Risotto for dinner and it was cooked perfectly with excellent blended cheeses, mushrooms and herbs. The other dishes looked tasty and well presented. The negative note was the service. Our server was sweet but her perfume was overpowering, she did not know how the fish of the day was prepared and our food took 45 minutes and she never kept us updated warning us of the wait. There were only 7 tables with customers on this Saturday night so no excuse for the wait. We were starving by the time we ate. The patio was beautiful with views of the city lights, but the restaurant inside has a strange musty smell. If they train their servers, update the carpet and get the smell out, the food and atmosphere will bring the customers back.
Food and service were great. I am just very disapointed that I booked the reservations in advance and mentioned it was my birthday and there was no candle or anything special done.
When we got our desert and there was no mention I thought maybe they will bring it on a plate or some other way, but nothing was mentioned. we left before 10pm and there was no stuff at the reception or any where to mention it.
We love that we can sit on the patio here almost any time of the year and hear ourselves talk! Such a pleasure. Aside from a lovely menu, we are always REALLY pleased with the staff. The servers ask if you are going to the theater, and they pay attention to your timing. We so appreciate that. We also like that the menu is not over-loaded. Enough choices in each category, but not over done. We eat here quite often when in DTLA.
Probably the saltiest food I’ve ever had. Literally could not taste anything, but salt, to the point where it was burning my tongue. We left an entire entree untouched as it was just salt and just horrible. There was no depth in their food as it used only one flavoring style, salt, and too much of it.
It was like wedding catered food where it’s been sitting in a steam tray all day and is over-salted to cover up the blandness from cooking large batches.
I do not recommend this place to anyone.
The service was decent, but is moot if the food is inedible and not enjoyable — that is really what you’re paying for, and I spent $130 for nothing.
Still great, with attention to detail. A haven in a (currently) somewhat demolished part of town due to subway construction and L.A.'s general bad construction coordination. Every course from starter to coffee was perfect. The branzino for two is delicious, especially its vegetable base. Pastas are sublime. Share one as a starter if you're having a more substantial entree. In warm weather the patio is about a s lovely as L.A. dining gets.
The best happy hour in town! We tried almost everything on the menu and it was all delicious! The staff was great and very attentive. We told our server that it was our anniversary and she brought us a complimentary dessert with a candle- such a kind gesture and we really appreciated it. We can't wait to come back again!
Food excellent as always; service of the top quality expected over the past 20 years or so. This visit marred to some degree by choosing to sit outside (lovely day) and being overwhelmed by the number of flies...had to move inside which only solved the problem partially...service staff was very responsive and helpful. We'll be back. Gerry Seelman
We had a great dinner at Cafe Pinot for our anniversary. We got married there two years ago, and it's so fun to be able to go back to our wedding venue for dinner anytime we want, and especially anniversaries! It's such a special restaurant with a great ambiance. The service is amazing - Jorge is the best!!
Main room feels like a reception area for a law firm. Patio could be much cuter if they paid more attention to design details. Food was average at best and the service seemed under-trained. Would not go out of my way to return.
It was our first time dining at Cafe Pinot and the entire experience was amazing. We sat outside in their lovely patio, there were heaters throughout which made it quite comfortable. The food was delicious and our server Jorge was attentive and took great care of us. I highly recommend and my husband and I will certainly return...
Right across from the US Bank Tower and bordering LA Central Library Cafe Pinot is a gem in the concrete jungle. Dwarfed by the talles building in LA and other adjacent skyscrapers, its ivory olive exterior and surrounding foliage, garden, and fountain are an inviting escape from the manic of down town.
The staff is genial and cheerful and adds to the idyll experience. Jorge, my favorite and my invariably requested waiter, is quintessential to your Cafe Pinot experience. Simply put- he is amazing. Whether you come unsure of what to expect or contrarily Jorge will provide you with the best recommendations and service.
The jidori rotisserie chicken is Pinot's claim to fame and one taste why. The Hanger steak and Market Fish are on the same level as satisfying but the tenderness and flavor of the jidori chicken place it ahead of the other delicious entrees in my mind. However, above all of these, the main reason you will find driving out here from Orange County to eat is for the macaroni and cheese. It's an off menu item but it is hands down the best macaroni and cheese I have ever had in my life. If you need a reason to visit Cafe Pinot I'm telling you - the macaroni and cheese is reason enough.
Pinot has a various variety of spirits and drinks and one day I hope to have tried them all but for now any half bottle and the Moscow mule would be my recommendation. I use the quality of the Moscow mule as my metric system to measure a restaurants quality against another and Pinot's is top notch. You really can't go wrong with any drink here.
There are half booths, tables, and aesthetic bar inside backed by a large x shaped wine storage wall with a 180 degree view of the city and tables heat lamps and beautiful lighting out in the patio over looking the garden and fountains. Great for large groups or an intimate date. The wood and glass interior is beautiful and the ambience is quiet and peaceful. If you want to impress a date.- this is the place to do it.
I ordered the Cesar salad and added Salmon. The lettuce wasn’t fresh, a little stale and it felt warm. The salmon was cooked perfectly tho (saving grace). Ordered the Pear tart and was just OK (mediocre) with some coffee. The ambience comes thru to make the whole experience good.
Bough not the fault of Pinot, street work makes for very difficult parking. That's a bad way to start a meal. Eating outside was very nice and e food was ok although the menu is limited. It's convenient for the Music Center and the service was quite good. Knowing we were upset with the parking the manager gave us desert, which was quite good
