Cafe Palmetto at Riviera Palm Springs
Located in a hotel
Hard to find
First I’ll start by stating the food itself is not bad. I came this past Sunday for brunch with some friends, and all of us enjoyed our meal. The time it took from ordering our food to the food arriving at our table was the most prompt service we received the entire time we were there.
The ambiance (outside patio) was wondering. The outdoor patio is comfortable and chic. The decor on the inside of the hotel gives you a mid century modern feel and is fun to stroll through and see the refurbishment the hotel underwent.
From the moment we pulled up to valet we should have known that customer service was not a priority at the Riviera. The valets seemed to have no urgency in helping anyone. A group of them stood around chit chatting as cars pulled up, not interested in extending a helpful hand.
When we got to Cafe Palmetto the hostess was rude, simply stating my reservation could not be found. No, apology or rectification-Just sorry we don’t have you on our list. Usually a restaurant that cares about customer service would have said “I can’t seem to find your reservation but don’t worry we can get you seated in just a moment” I instead had to then ask if there was a table available. Another woman jumped in and said there was a table available and that we could be seated.
Once seated it took almost 15 minutes for our server to come to the table. Nonchalant at that as if he was too busy to do his actual job. We ordered drinks and flagged him down again so we could order our breakfast. Once our food came, which was brought by a “runner” (thank goodness or who knows how long we would have waited) we never saw our waiter again. There was no “how is everything”, “ can I get you anything else”, refills on drinks.... nothing. The waiter finally brought us our check and again, he never returned. I had to track someone down to actually pay my bill. In the downtown Palm Springs setting, on a holiday weekend, I expected more. It’s a shame really!
It's a pleasant outdoor experience. The service is courteous, fast and the food is delicious.
Food is amazing and best service
This is the best hotel for the service provided
Nice place, good food and very pleasant service. We will revert.
Promptly seated. Food is nicely prepared and played it. Several people checking on our dining experience.
Arrived at the The Riviera...had reservations for 11pm Saturday night. Showed up and they were closed!!! Why would you make the time available if you’re closed!!!
Saw the pics of this restaurant online. Looked beautiful and serene. When we arrived, there was a private party blaring horrible music like you were in a bar. To be specific, there were playing line dance songs like crazy chicken, etc. Our server was great and attentive, the hostess was pleasant but the whole expertise felt like the hard Rock Cafe in Palm springs before it closed. And that place should've been closed like 5 years ago. I did like the lobby walk and the Slim Aaron's photos featured among different mid-century furniture vignettes.
We thoroughly enjoyed our Restaurant Week 2019 luncheon here! Maria, our server was delightful and provided excellent service. The food was terrific, and of course a bargain during Restaurant Week. Highly recommend!
Restaurant Week Lunch is the best deal around!
It was great food and great atmosphere
The food was delicious and our server was so sweet. I don’t remember is his name, unfortunately, but he was wonderful. We went on a Sunday morning so it was pretty crowded with the Buffett going on as well, but with the Opentable reservation, we were seated right away.
Service was slow. Food was mediocre, not bad but for the price I would expect a bit more.
But we asked for a candle on a dessert and never got it.
Perfect outdoor setting, ate off the appetizer menu and the three items we ordered were delicious and priced Right. I'm already planning my next visit and recommending to others. I'm a local.
Fantastic spot for late afternoon lunch. Beautiful outdoor seating and a charming server. The salmon lomi lomi, shrimp scampi and parmasan fries were delicious.
We enjoyed a delightful breakfast! The avocado toast was delicious. My husband had the eggs Benedict... nothing was left on his plate!!! Beautiful eating area. Very Miami feeling!! Service was great!! Can’t wait to go back!!
Cafe Palmetto is a quiet, shady, fun place to go for a nice lunch. Food was excellent, service (Chase) was perfect! Avocado toast was delicious!
The napkins were dirty. Spoons dirty. I order an entree salad that was about 8 bites. Was overpriced for what you got. I would not recommend.
We were disappointed. Service was nominal, food choices just ok. We felt rushed, like everyone was at the end of their shift. We went for the ambiance but that was overshadowed by a lower than expected experience.
Very small portions for the price.
Nice new decor but we won’t be back.
There were sliding glass doors directly in front of our booth. Although there were heaters in the outside area it was quite cold when waiters entered and exited the restaurant. That was really disappointing bc the rest of the evening was fantastic. Great service and food. Even the ambiance was lovely. At the end of the day the cold weather (while seated indoors) was just plain uncomfortable.
Great private room for family reunion dinner.
Our table was ready, seated off in a quiet corner as requested. Our server Maria could not have been nicer and the food was great. Some of us ordered all carte, some had buffet. All were completely satisfied with the meal.
Had a lovely lunch with friend. Great waiter, Salvador, was polite, positive attitude and efficient. Look forward to returning soon.
I enjoyed my experience here. We were staying at the hotel and it was both fun and sunny
Went for Restaurant Week prix fixe lunch, but ended up getting the Sunday Brunch buffet instead because it look very good. It was. Excellent omelet station with good ingredients (the omelet maker made me a yummy one stuffed with mushrooms!).
Also, great grilled veggies, including excellent asparagus and red peppers.
Finished off with nice ripe fruit and very fresh pastries and danishes.
We had an excellent breakfast buffet in an iconic Palm Springs hotel. They have beautiful grounds. It was difficult to find a parking spot though since they had a special event while we were there.
All was great except for an annoying fly that wouldn't give up attacking our food.
It’s was very nice.
Among other things, we were served fish tacos with a shredded rubber glove in them.
Had Easter Brunch / three courses. Checked in at The Riviera Palm Springs. Hostess was able to seat us quickly and earlier than reservation which worked out since we were waiting for our room/bell hop. Was seated inside with green/wood decor. Loved the indoor/outdoor space. Food was good/plating was traditional/clean - good size portions. We ordered salads, steak and eggs and mimosas as well as panna cotta. Main service was good. Timing was off but didn’t ruin the overall experience once we weren’t in a rush or famished. (Entrees took 40 min then dessert was served while we were still eating entree).
The restaurant was pretty empty as summer is the season in Palm Springs, but the food was really good. I enjoyed the croissant French toast, as it was a unique find that I have never seen on a menu before.
