Part of Portland Dining Month. Delicious Food. Impeccable Service.
Overall food was very good. Crème Brulee has room for improvement.
Perfect weekend brunch spot!
Everyone loved what was ordered! We were there for dinner on a Friday night. My turkey burger was amazing. Our server was very nice too. The only negative is that the food service was slow coming out and a bit noisy as most restaurants seem to be.
Dining month menu was an attractive idea, but horribly executed. Room temp. soup had clearly been sitting out. Pasta was cooked until it was porridge. Portions were laughably small. Service was very slow, but friendly... until we ordered the dining month. Then it was virtually nonexistant and cold (like the food).
Have eaten lunch here and loved be the food, atmosphere and servers. So we tried dinner. Very good but not quite as lovely as lunch. The food was very good but the service was slow. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting, so we will definitely give dinner another try.
Cute place, good food, great service. Seating was uncomfortable. Tiny hard chairs. Plus we were in the center of a crowded room.
Delicious food, excellent service! Only gripe was the noise level - we were seated in the middle of the restaurant and it was difficult to hear each other.
Excellent meal during Portland's dining month! The service was great and the recommendations were on point. Will definitely be back for cocktails when the weather is nice. Great for a date!
The foot was excellent, all our meals were very well prepared, came out together and we had a fantastic time. The mushroom tart appetizer was amazing, Lamb Ragu &, Steak frites and Salmon were all perfectly prepared. Great vibe, just nosey enough to be private but enjoyable. Slightly slow getting started with service but picked up and very attentive once we ordered.
Celebrated a "Spring Birthdays" dinner for 4 at Cafe Nell. The food was amazing - perfectly seasoned, properly cooked, and imaginatively -plated. The server was wonderful, just the right blend of gracious, personable, and knowledgeable about the food and wine (she suggested a very good pairing for the meal.) Cafe Nell is a good example of how fortunate we are in Portland to have high-end meals at accessible prices and in a welcoming (no-attitude!) environment. I would definitely bring guests or out of town visitors, and will definitely return again myself.
Had the burger salad for the first time. It was to die for! I can’t wait to go back for it.
First time visit to this restaurant and we weren't disappointed! We had a friendly & knowledgeable server, the space is cozy and appealing, and the food was very good and served in generous portions. I'd definitely come back! The only disappointment is that the March
dining month deal has gone up to $33/person, and so we didn't order from that menu.
Blt salad with Salmon was the perfect brunch option. So full of flavor! And the Apple turnover was a delicious morning delight. Can't wait to go back!
It was perfect! Just like always! ❤️
Their fresh baked apple turnovers are worth the trip!!!! SOOOO delicious!
Loved it, we’ll be back
We met before a performance at Comedy Sportz. There were 5 of us. We were seated on time and ordered a bottle of wine. Everything from the flat bread to the salads and main courses was excellent. We tried the vegan carrot dinner and the special chicken and the steak and fries. Everything was great. The service was a trifle slow but we got to our performance on time.
The staff were very cognizant of me and my friends getting together; did not rush us; gave us time. The Bloody Mary was INCREDIBLE with not only the taste, but in the presentation. The ambiance of Nell's is always a pleasure. Thank you...
The waitress was the only good thing about the restaurant. It was overpriced bland food.
The service and the atmosphere are outstanding. I loved how friendly the server was. The place itself is cozy and warm, so you feel welcomed the minute you walk in the door. We started with the steak tartare. It was very good. Totally recommend it. My husband had the linguine with clams and chorizo. Spicy! Huge flavor bomb. My husband loved it. If you’re shy with spice, stay away from this one. I had the pork chop and it was so extremely dry. I had to drink water, pretty much, after each bite. The flavor was good though. We will try it again and some other dishes. We think it’s definitely worth putting on our rotation. I’ll just stay away from the pork chop.
The waitress was very kind & elegant. My husband did like the lamb pasta and the ambiance was really good. Overall, the date night ended not so good due to reasons I wish to not disclose. I didn't find the food all that appetizing and believe the best part of the experience was the sparkling water that was offered when we sat. Due to my husbands findings during our meal, the manager was kind enough to resolve the issue respectively. I wish I could have done more for the waitresses kind service, yet no opportunity. I guess we will try another restaurant for date night if not our usual at Salty's on the Columbia.
Thanks for everything.
I really love this place. Great brunch experience, so I decided to book Valentine’s dinner here. By the end of the dinner everything was wonderful, but it definitely got off to a rough start. First, our reservations were bumped half an hour back which was fine because it was obviously going to be busy.... but holy heck was it busy!
My girlfriend and I weren’t even able to make our way to the host because we were blocked out by another couple. When we did get seated in the main dining room, it was at the smallest table (was it really a table?) that was crammed right next to multiple other couples and right by where the servers were running food and drinks.
Thank goodness our reservation was bumped though because half of the dining room cleared out in ten minutes allowing us to move to a more comfortable table without fear of getting food spilled on us. After that, everything was perfect! Fabulous service, atmosphere, cuisine, and cocktails. Amazing house-made truffles!
The icing on the cake was the call from Vanessa asking me how everything went. Wow! Now that’s good customer service. Ready to go back again for brunch and maybe another night for dinner.
2nd year in a row dining at Cafe Nell for Valentine’s Day. We hope to come back next year as this has become a tradition.
Great Valentines Day dinner!
Took my teen granddaughter for post movie dinner. We ate in the bar where conversation is easier as noise level is lower. She wants to plan a family dinner here later this month . Delightful experience.
Great food, friendly staff, cozy digs!
Loved it. First time and def will return.
My husband loved his Monte Cristo. Wonderful ham and cheese plus crisp French toast. It was an absolutely, deliciously hammy, leftover later that night. He really appreciated the FRESHLY made iced tea. I enjoyed the wild mushroom omelet with herbed cheese and an absolutely fabulous New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. The omelet was cooked to perfection (no brown); the mushrooms, earthy; herbed cheese, pleasantly creamy and piquant. The server (Rowan) was exceptional. They have a number of interesting specialty drinks: we’ll check those out next visit. Off street parking adds to the charm.
Got seated quickly and order taken promptly.
Food was hot and fresh.
Sausage Hash was very flavorful and filling
Heuvos Rancheros has just the right amount of heat.
Top notch brunch.
First time toCafe Nell and was very impressed. The steak tartar was a must.
I love this place - it is one of the hidden gems of Portland. Cute cozy little place and great food. Cool kind of speakeasy 20s beauxs arts atmosphere- specially in the bar.
Charming restaurant with wonderful and great service.
I love the new feature on Open table that recommends restaurants according to where you have dined before. Cafe Nell was recommended and we were very pleasantly surprised at the beautiful atmosphere and amazing meal. Not to mention the professional and friendly service! I would highly recommend this restaurant for a small group or date night.
I have eaten here with my wife numerous times over the past few years and have been served food that ranged from stellar to adequate. This time the food was just adequate. Our charcuterie plate, $18, was good but a skimpy serving. My wife's risotto was very good while my steak frittes was dry and luke warm. The service was good. The ambiance was good. The food is inconsistent. Perhaps sunday is the wrong evening to go there.
Cafe Nell is always great for brunch. Good selection of breakfast food, great bloody Mary’s and mimosas, quick service!
Nice little place took may date there and had a great time. The service was very good and the food was also. Got a little warm in the back where we were sitting due to a roaring fire in the fireplace but it was great overall.
We have been to Cafe Nell before, and were very disappointed with this visit. The coffee came cold the first time, and then when our food arrived, it was not hot either. The potatoes were dry and cold and tasteless. It was brunch and we had hoped for a delicious meal, but ended up leaving thinking "we won't be returning".
Sorry for the bad review, but too many great places to eat around town.
Fabulous dining experience. My friends from L.A. said it was the best food they had in Portland.
