Café Napoli Ratings and Reviews
Average service for New Years Eve 2017. I had the Liver Napoli and it was somewhat soggy inside the crust. Annie Gunn's makes the optimum liver. The server , Scott was average, and the menu selections are starting to get a bit stale over the last year or so. The other thing is we were seated in the bar area along with 3 other tables and they did not have the sense to turn off the football game. When you spend $150 for dinner you dont want to have an NFL game ruin the ambiance of your evening. Cafe Napoli is running the risk of turning into another Olive Garden if they don't start picking up the slack so to speak. I would rather spend my dining dollars at an Olive and Oak in Webster Groves or stay in Chesterfield and patronize Annie Gunns given they have their routine down to a science and the food is never disappointing.
It was an 8 pm Xmas Eve reservation. They were very busy but we were seated within 5 minutes of arrival at 7:50. Excellent calamari fritto appetizer. The Caesar salad was ok, but nothing special: bigger, tastier croutons would have helped—the croutons served reminded me of pieces of a stuffing mix—hard and dry. The Christmas specials on the menu sonded good. I especially enjoyed the scallops and linguini special. My partner liked the veal chop. The waiter was courteous, although he forgot an iced tea until midmeal. Service was a little slow, but they were quite busy. All in all, a good Xmas Eve meal and I expect we’ll go back next year sometime.
Great food and awesome service. Extensive wine list as well as all other cocktails l. Great cognac selections. Only complaint is we went out for my wife's birthday and where seated in the bar dining area. It was very loud. Other than that it was great. We will return.
Our waiter was attentive, knowledgeable, and professional. The food was horrible! The pasta and shrimp was chewy. The shrimp also consisted of 2 very large pieces - not at all what I expected. The presentation was not very appetizing.
Overall good food, although we’ve had better steaks for less money. Our waiter was very good but I wish the water service would leave us alone. I don’t need my water refilled after every sip. Only complaint would be the $10 charge for requesting your scotch neat. We’ve ordered scotch neat from several 5 star restaurants and that was a first.
We had reservations which is probably a requirement on a Saturday evening. We were seated in the bar area, I’m not sure why. Our reservations were for 5:45 and we were early so it was quiet at first. By the time we were eating our entree we could hardly hear each other. The bar was crowded and there were several loud, excitable people there.
The food was perfectly cooked and the service was very good. Desserts and coffee were good also. We both ordered specials and knew the prices. There are much cheaper items in the menu that looked good also. So even though it wasn’t a surprise for $100pp I hoped for something closer to exceptional.
We would go back again but probably be a little less extravagant.
Café Napoli never disappoints. Me and my boyfriend have gone several times to celebrate special occasions like birthdays, anniversaries, and holidays. The food is always fantastic and the service is always prompt and attentive. We love the calamari. It’s to the point we don’t go anywhere else if we are in the mood for something a little more upscale.
Was in town for a few days and had several business dinners throughout the week. Lots of good restaurants in Clayton but this one stuck out the most. Service, food, attention to detail was absolutely spot on. See you in a few weeks Napoli and job well done!!
It was my second time dining here from a couple years ago. Decor was updated and fresh, elegant and sophisticated. It's nice to see the owners take care in their establishment! Food was outstanding, as well as service. Our sever was attentive but not annoying, engaged at just the right times. Went to Bar Napoli afterward which was great (don't skip the Espresso Martini)! Napoli is now one of my favorite go-to places! Can't wait to go back!
Had a drink in the bar while we waited for our table. Service in the bar was slow and inattentive. Service in the restaurant was good, but the food was not. Salads were basic and tended to be soggy, as if they had them dressed a long time before being served.Prawns in a pasta dish were so over cooked they almost couldn’t be cut, and there were fibrous chunks of inedible artichoke hearts or hearts of palm in one salad. We let our server know, and he was responsive and made a small adjustment to the bill. The ciopionno was thick and dark, more like a gumbo, and had few distinguishable bits of seafood, it felt more like the place the leftover bits of fish went. Overall the cooking was uninspired and we wouldn’t recommend it.
