Cafe Mezzanotte Ratings and Reviews
Today was cold, windy & after a trip to De. Café Mezz . was a joy for lunch!
Soup was a perfect starter.
Had a shrimp & salmon dish w/pasta in olive oil & garlic
light flavor & the salmon was the best I have had in quite awhile.
Warm bread & tiramisu rounded out a perfect meal
My partner agreed, lunch was quite good.
Surprised to see Hotel Dupont less than a block away
We'll be back in warm weather,
We had a 6 pm reservation before an 8 pm show at the Grand. When they sat us, we were still waiting for 2 people. After 10 minutes, we asked for menus and the waitress told us that they were short on them so she was waiting for our entire party to get there. When we were all seated, she took our order, but we had to ask for a drink list. She said they were short on them as well. When the bread came, there were precisely 5 pieces, just enough for each of us with a tomato chutney. When we asked for more, she brought back just bread, no tomato chutney. When we asked for some, she said they were short on it. She never came back around to check if we needed anything or to refill our water glasses. But as soon as we were done our main course, she told us that she couldn't believe we had all eaten everything on our plates. Not everyone finishes, she said!
The food was very good and I would definitely go back again as long as I was assured of not having this waitress again!
The food was well prepared with many choices. I enjoyed the chicken special. Decor is inviting. The background music was distracting because it wasn't appropriate for dining but glad I went here before concert at the Grand. Bonus it was close to my hotel, Hotel DuPont.
The food was great. The bartender, Leslie, answered the phone when I call. I explained I was having a hard time finding the place. She came outside around the block and found me! I couldn't believe it. The place was great... as a single woman eating alone and traveling through Delaware I really appreciate the kindness... and did I mention the food was fabulous.
While the restaurant is beautiful, I enjoy sitting in the bar area when I dine alone. Everyone is so fun and friendly. There are many regulars who will let you know their favorite menu items. I like the fettuccine Bolognese. The staff is wonderful and knowledgeable. Feel free to ask for wine and suggestions. You won't go wrong with anything you choose.
First time visiting. Not a big selection on the menu for Seafood/fish allergies. This restaurant does not have a section of sides with the meal. They bring you unsalted fried potatoes and green beans. Just very weird. The restaurant was pretty empty too for a Saturday night.
Maybe it was because it was the night before Easter, but......my family of 4 and only 1 other couple were the only 2 tables in the entire restaurant.
Food was good, I had eaten there once before in 2013 and remember it being much better. We got the chicken quesadilla for an appetizer & that was very good, calamari was a little chewy & could have been served hotter. Two steaks & 2 pasta dishes - could have had a little more flavor.
Service was rather slow as there were only 2 tables of diners.
I would still recommend this restaurant, I just believe they were not up to par
Cafe Mezzanotte is a special place. It has a very friendly atmosphere, amazing food, and a beautiful dining area. The happy hour offers much more than the typical "white" or "red" house wine choices. I enjoy the beautiful presentation of the food and chef/owner Sergio's visit with guests to make sure everything is just right
I have had several meals at this restaurant and they have all been prepared very well and served by friendly, helpful waiters and waitresses. It is a great place in the heart of town and you can actually hear your conversations because the noise level is low. Nicely decorated and very accommodating to suit your tastes. The kitchen was able to make changes for diet needs or gluten allergies.
We were staying at the DuPont up the street and wanted to find a .place within walking distance.CFe Mezzanote sounded good. The service was very pleasant and prompt. Two of us had Fruitte de Mare. Coming from New England this dish always has fresh fish. The mussels were a bit tough, very small shrimp an d.scollops and a .very large wide pasta. Just fair. Ravi oli was apparently good as was the pasta bolo geese. I would still go again. I
A few months prior to our tip to this restaurant, we visited another restaurant owned by the same owner and was very displeased with the extreme amount of time it took us to receive our food. However, we decided to give Mezzanote a chance for Valentine's Day since it has been around for a while... again, we weren't impressed. We waited a long time for the server to greet us and each course took a long time to get to us (but this was all tables I noticed, not just us)- in total it took us 2 and a half hours for dinner. The food was good but not enough for me to return; I like prompt service and this just didn't hit the mark for me.
the food was not bad, but was mediocre at best. the Anti-pasta was really good but the calamari was ok but a serving for one. I had the balsamic chicken and the vinegar overwhelmed the dish. two in our party had the sea bass and would not order it again in the future. the Veal Ravioli was good according to one person who got that dish. bottom line was 5 people, so-so food and almost $300 bill leave a less than favorable impression. probably won't go back.
We picked one of the coldest nights of the year to stray from our usual pre-concert dinner at the Hotel DuPont and walk down the street to Café Mezzanotte. Good idea. We had a delicious dinner, highlighted by a silky sea bass entrée. Will definitely return.
It was quiet because we had a 5 pm reservation and the restaurant opened at 5 so we were the only patrons for the first 30 minutes. The restaurant was cold inside, otherwise the atmosphere was fine. The salmon was dry and had no flavor. The crabcake was ok except it fell apart and was difficult to pick up with a fork. There were no vegetables, just a bed of arugula and I already had a spinach salad and wasn't interested in more greens. My husband's serving of tiramisu was broken in half. The waitress said "The first piece is the hardest to get out." Then the first piece or any broken piece shouldn't be served.
I had the lunch special-half panini with salad. It was very good but the salad was very small- about 4 bites. I would have liked a little more. My mother had the chicken parm. Delicious! But the chicken was tough. Shouldn't have to saw through a chicken cutlet with a steak knife. I have eaten here a few times before and the same problem persists. The service is Very Slow. I thought lunch service would be faster. If you are trying to attract people who are on their lunch hour, you won't. Takes too long.
