Cafe Mezzanotte Ratings and Reviews
Café Mezzanotte is less than a block away from the Hotel DuPont so it's a convenient place to eat prior to a performance in the Gold Ballroom. Since we travel from out of town for the performances we are not regular diners at the restaurant, so imagine our surprise when our waiter remembered us from a previous visit. He was so cordial, and the food was so delicious, that we are already looking forward to the next concert.
Our first time here. Restaurant week was a perfect opportunity to give it a try. Good in many respects but not outstanding enough to bring us into the city after hours. Our server was superb and knowledgeable, as well as pleasant. Could use some updated decor inside.i
We went for restaurant week. We were able, and did, choose off the price fixe menu as well as the regular menu. Everyone was happy with their food. Swordfish prepared to perfection, best we've had in a long time. Two separate menu items (mixed grilled fish and grilled swordfish) actually came out identically. Not sure what that was about. We arrived at 6 pm, the place was not crowded but it was 86 on the tiramisu. Disappointing. We had one new waitress "shadowing" a more veteran waitress, and there was some confusion about the food options, wine orders, etc. I had to ask for a glass of wine 3 times before I got it... with dessert. Some glitches to work out. But, we'd come back.
We booked Cafe Mezzenote because we had theatre tickets to the The Grand Playhouse. It's only two blocks and an easy, refreshing after dinner walk to the venue. First, my wife loves a craft cocktail which few bartenders know how to make (Blood and Sand) but at Mezzenote not only did Chris know how to make it, quite honestly, it was the best version we every tasted. We spoke to him after dinner and he gave us his secret (this alone makes us want to go back and eat at the bar just to express our appreciation). Our starters were fantastic and main courses were great. I wanted a little more garlic and added some shrimp with no problem. The Eggplant Parm, my wife's favorite was spectacular. We had time for dessert because they were very conscious of our show time. Plenty of time to enjoy a cappuccino, dessert and a grappa. This is our main stop when we are in Wilmington and want great Italian cuisine.
Server Francesca was amazing and made great recommendations. Food was delivered fast and was plentiful and delicious. We were there pre-theatre and had sufficient time to even have dessert and cappuccino!
Sea bass - excellent. Crêpes were imaginative and delicious. Mushroom stuffed pasta thingys were a new favorite. All in all a gem in Wilmington- so surprised we hadn't been there before. Will definitely go again.
Outstanding food and service, as always. The food is freshly prepared with quality ingredients. The owner, Chef Sergio, greets and interacts with guests personally. The staff is friendly and welcoming. Hands down: one of my favorite restaurants in Wilmington, DE.
Formal Italian dining which we were pleased was able to deal with us having allowed only about 75 minutes before the show. Nothing seemed rushed on a Saturday night, but we left without feeling that we had to run to the theatre. Food was great and our server was there when we needed him and didn't hover.
Once again the food, wine selection, the service, and the atmosphere was outstanding. I can always count on a wonderful experience here. I like that I can choose from friendly conversations in the bar area to quiet, beautiful atmosphere in the dining room. Thanks again everyone for a great evening.
My boyfriend and I came here for dinner before a show. It was quiet, and there wasn't much ambiance. But the service was friendly, the food was decent and they were sensitive to making sure we didn't miss our show. The place was not that busy on a Friday night.
Was here about a year ago, & the waitress remembered us & we knew her right away
Nice place..good food..even the chef came out & was very friendly
We had a seafood dish ..very tasty..shrimp & scallops delicious..
For desert, my friend had a lemon cake
It is relaxing & nice to be out of center city Philly, especially w/little pop up
protests all over...nice to be in a quiet zone.
..I think the red sauce, & rigatonni was as good as any I have had in So. Philly
We'll be back sooner than a year.,
We went before a show and the waitress first asked if we needed to be out for the show, which we thought was a good sign. However, service seemed confused, slow and inattentive. We had to flag down someone for water refills and they brought both food and drinks for portions of the table without any mention of when the others would get theirs. It was not very crowded and I guess now we know why it was so easy to get a reservation. We won't be going back.
We had a party of three and seated immediately with menus. Very long time for waitress and had to ask for wine list when she came to take our order. Long time to get drinks and bread. Even longer to get our soup. Ordered from appetizer menu for main dish. We were going to a show nearby and had allowed plenty of time to sit and relax. Had to ask the waitress for our food and the check it got so late. Soups were good. Scallops very good. Special sausage from menu was very dry and tasteless. Many other patrons were complaining about service., one loudly. Those that ordered a complete meal may have been late for show I am sure. We just made the showtime and a couple were just served their entre when we were leaving. Actually the show ended up starting late. Probably waiting for the patrons of this restaurant! Very stressful experience.
This restaurant has a great location and lots of potential. The hostess was terrific and the waitress solicitous. The food and service do not justify the cost however. Even though the restaurant was half empty, the kitchen couldn't get our dinner out evenly or in a timely manner. The food was good, not great and quantities were sufficient. It was dinner, but not extraordinary.
This restaurant is very accommodating. I wanted the Chilean Sea Bass, but the preparation seemed to be a bit on the bland side, so we asked the chef to kick it up a little. Well, it was so spicy that I could not eat it. It was also a little overdone. My husband had the special, a beef ravioli that was very good, and my sister got the filet which was outstanding. I will not order the bass again, but we will go back.
This lovely place is friendly and has personality. The food is outstanding. Customers and staff will provide you recommendations of their favorite menu selections. The dining area is elegant and the bar area is filled with interesting conversations. Ask the bartender to suggest a wine or a special drink.
