Disappointing. Went for outdoor dining on a late summer night. Seating was fine. That’s about it.
Appetizers were slow coming out. Calamari was bland. Five salads showed up, but we only ordered four. Fifth guest waited for another five minutes for their app. All salads and apps tasted like supermarket salads. Dressings seemed out of a jar.
Entrées were next. Ugh. Again showed up at vastly different times. One pasta dish seemed microwaved because some fettuccine was hot but some was iced cold. Certainly not made fresh to order. The tomato sauce was the horrendous. Right out of a can. No seasoning. No texture. No flavor. My Fra Diavalo was a disgrace which I didn’t eat. The shrimp on it were fine, but the pasta and sauce shamefully - pasta not cooked well and no spice. NO SPICE IN A FRA DIAVALO. none!!!
Told the waitress about our disappointment when she eventually came back to our table but she that’s a shame and that was it. No manager ever stopped by. We paid and left.
No way I would recommend or go back.
Always a great meal. My favorite restaurant in Wilmington!
Our group of six thoroughly enjoyed our dinners. Our entrees included the filet mignonette, veal chop, as well as a couple of the pastas. Those who had dessert were delighted.
This was such a great find! The food and the drinks were superb. This is the first place I’ve been to that even makes its own gluten free pasta. I will definitely be going back.
A most pleasant experience.
A perfect venue for a relaxed pre-theatre dinner. Food was outstanding including the special pasta dish and veal. An elegant alternative to the traditional Italian joints on Trolley Square.
Every time our family goes to Cafe Mezzanotte we are impressed by the food and the service - it is not crowded when we go because I think we may be earlier than their normal crowd, but I almost hesitate to post this review because it more people knew about it I would never get a table!
very limited menu but if you want some good food before a show, it would be a good choice.
Food was just ok. My husband struggled to find the lobster in his lobster ravioli. My swordfish was overdone (but the veggies were good). And my mom had the pasta with sausage and mushrooms, which was mediocre. Spectacularly bad service, though. Funny that we had two waitresses fighting over who would wait on our table, and we had to ask to get a water glass refilled... Our waitress did not even know how to use the corkscrew to open the wine. Too many service gaffes to mention. Cafe Mezza—Not!
Food was outstanding. Service was horrible. Waitress didn’t know that Pellegrino was bottled water, appetizer dishes were not cleared for over 30 minutes, ciopinno entree did not have scallops as stated, had to ask for bread even tho dipping oil was on table, 50 minutes waiting for entree, no water was refilled, and waitress asked if we wanted coffee or dessert while presenting our bill. Shame because food was fresh & presentation was perfect.
Entrées are excellent. Always an enjoyable experience. Sergio is the best!
Love coming here. I have never had a meal that was not delicious. Reminds me of my time living in Italy.
The food and service were decent, but not the best I have had.
Food was outstanding and beautifully presented. The homemade mozzarella app was delicious. Definitely would go there again !
We had wine, the smoked salmon bruschetta, carpaccio and a mushroom pasta dish. The pasta came with sausage, but they accommodated us by leaving out the meat and using a few extra mushrooms instead. All of our food was very good. My only complaint was that the pasta dish is described as having a "light" cream sauce, but I found it to be rather rich. I would definitely return here the next time I'm in town.
Excellent food and service!
Great location in downtown Wilmington, happened to be restaurant week, had a great meal with great service.
Enjoyed our first visit here. Will definitely return. Service was great and the food was delicious.
A beautiful venue for classic Italian bistro cooking. The chef is brilliant, the service is fantastic and the mixologist at the bar is outstanding. Go soon!
Keep in mind that we arrived after an afternoon at the theater and it wasn't very crowded. It was around 5pm. But everything was great.
Saw limited menu on table... told to get show patrons out to Playhouse this was necessary. Ironically, service was very slow as it took almost an hour for our dinner to arrive. Good that we had a 5:30 dinner reservation for a 7:30 show! I have been to Mezzanotte on show nights before when serving full menu, and there was no problem getting to the theater on time... go figure?
As always my meal at Cafe Mezzanottte was great. I have never been disappointed.
Service was great. Friendly staff. Loved the drinks and bartender. Nice to meet the Chef! Only somewhat disappointed with the limited menu, understand the reason.
Food was great. Very nice ambiance. They might have been short staffed. Service took a long time.
Food and drinks were really good... service was very slow.
We chose to eat in the bar so that we could done quicker and told our server we had a show to catch. We still waited 45 minutes for 2 simple entrees. The lobster raviolis were excellent, but the sauce was not hot.
Wonderful experience! First time having dinner there and fully enjoyed our time. Everything from the food to the service was amazing. The most authentic Italian you can get in Wilmington.
Excellent gluten free options, but wish gluten free pasta could be spaghetti and not just t was delicious, but too many restaurants use penne for gluten free options.
Service was prompt, helpful, & friendly. Owner & chef Sergio Pellegrino greeted us at our table. A nice personal touch!
We enjoyed our night out at the restaurant- the service and food were above average. What stood out to is was the ambiance; the restaurant is quiet and tables are spread out so you feel like you can have a real convo with your party.
Bread was not good and had the texture of chewing gum.
My wife and I had dinner here on a recent Saturday evening. We each had one of the item specials for $30. Both of us thought the food was delicious and a great value. The staff was very friendly and provided excellent service.
Very good food and service. Will go back! Pasta quit good and my friends who drink fire water (I am strictly wine) raved about their old fashions
Amazing quality food and great bartender, but the atmosphere is very stale and feels cafeteria like.
First time there. Very nice place. Great food. Reasonable pricing. Friendly.
Ahhhh...HOT food! What a novel idea!!!
As always great food.
Was very quiet as there were few diners on a Tuesday at 6:00. Food for both of us was very good. We share the tiramisu - moist with great flavor. Our waitress was attentive and friendly, but not intrusive.
Very good authentic pasta and exceptionally prepared filet
We had dinner with friends and we all thoroughly enjoyed it. The food was delicious and fresh. The waitstaff and chef were so friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. We live in Wilmington but don’t often go downtown for dinner. We will definitely go back!
Visited yesterday evening for the first time and everything was absolutely wonderful. I ordered the veal chop special and it was just fabulous, cooked perfectly and beautifully presented. Stellar wine selection and a very knowledgeable waitstaff. Chef Sergio checked in on my table after the meal and offered us espresso and a night cap. Overall a very pleasant and welcoming experience. I look forward to my next visit.
