Cafe Mediterranean - Hyde Park Ratings and Reviews
This restaurant advertises in open table as available for lunch throughout the day. After making a reservation for 11:30 am, we showed up to find the place closed. A call to the restaurant confirmed that they are not open until dinner time on Saturday, no further explanations, however, were offered as to why then would they be advertised for lunch in open table. Open table locked my reservations to other places as it had me "dining" at Cafe Mediterranean. Very embarrassing and disappointing experience.
The service was excellent, and the restaurant was clean and managed well. The food was good. I wasn't blown away, but what I ate was good. I would recommend it if you enjoy trying ethnic foods. I am note convinced I would choose this again over other options, but I would return with friends or family.
Food was so/so... The owner was server/hostess/bartender which didn't really work out because he was all over the place and not spending much time with customers. Really needs to hire another server. I would go back but, i would defiantly try something other than the sauté which was really bland and the chicken was dry.
I really liked this friendly restaurant with great Mediterranean food. My branding was terrific as were my husband's cabbage rolls. But the topper was the order of Homemade- let me say that again - Homemade baklava. Too often baklava is chewy instead of crisp and over honeyed so you have chewy, soggy dessert. Not here. You can tell this is fresh. Just sweet enough. Crisp. Yummy.
This was our first visit to Café Mediterranean and we'll definitely be back. Excellent service-attentive without being overbearing. The menu offered a wide variety of options from small plate/appetizers to full dinners. Food was fresh and presented beautifully. The hot and humid weather prevented us from dining outside, but the sidewalk patio would be an option In cooler weather. All in all, a very enjoyable experience.
This was our second visit to Café Med. It was every bit as good as the first time. We brought guests this time. Each of us had different entrées - all very enjoyable. I love the babaganoush
and humus, and the bread served with the appetizers is perfect. I had the stuffed cabbage that was a special the evening we went. They were fantastic. Here's my vote for them to become a permanent addition to the menu. The baklava is wonderful. I also recommend trying the Turkish wines. They're very good. Service was excellent, prices are very reasonable and the owner, Fahri, is continually watching over the operation making sure that everyone is being taken care of and satisfied. Try this place, you won't be disappointed.
Upon entering the restaurant , we felt so welcomed as if we were entering someone's home. We took my husband out for Father's Day and we had a terrific time. There was something for everyone to eat. One son is a vegetarian, another is a bit picky but everyone enjoyed their meal. The appetizer platter was delicious and fun. Only negative was I would have enjoyed a sure with the kebabs.
This place was wonderful! The owners are from Turkey and all the food is from Turkey. I've read other reviews that say they didn't serve pita bread. Their bread was better than any pita we have had. It was traditional Turkish bread and had a sweet smell to it, almost flowery. They make everything from scratch, and it's all from traditional Turkish recipes. We got the sampler plate with the traditional bread and the sampler was divine! It's definitely the way to go to get a taste of their food. We were very much interested in the culture and the history of the food, and our waiter, who was from Turkey, told us a lot about the food, the spices, etc. We really got a good sense of their culture. The falafel, lamb and chicken were perfect and came with vegetables and rice. For dessert, I would recommend the homemade Baklava, but all of them were phenomenal. It was truly a memorable dining experience unlike no other that I have had. We were able to get some homemade lemonade that they had made the night before. It wasn't too sweet and was more like limeade, which our family prefers. We also drank some Turkish tea, which had some great flavor and was very strong.
This cafe was definitely one to come back and visit again. The staff was nice and very helpful with explaining what everything was. The food was fresh and prepared well and the place was very clean. I would definitely recommend this place to others. If there was a way to give them 6 stars or more, we would have. The food was priced right, portioned correctly, served in a reasonable amount of time, and our server was very attentive in making sure that we had a memorable experience.
It did take a while for our server to come over and greet us and then even longer to get our drinks however once that happened, service was great and we had a delicious meal. Of our party of 6, everyone loved their meals and apps. Will definitely be back. Delicious!
Cafe Mediterranean was the perfect place to entertain a group of friends. Rather than ordering from the menu the server worked with us to personalize our order and serve it family style for the group. I appreciated the low noise level and ability to easily enjoy my friends' company. The food was outstanding.
Another wonderful dining experience at Cafe Mediterranean. The owner was there to greet us and immediately order a bottle of our favorite Turkish wine. Our server was very helpful with cushions to make us comfortable on the outside dining patio. Very pleasant guitar music played in the background (a CD, but well chosen). It was a perfect spring evening accompanied by excellent service and wonderful food.
We were very happy with our meal, from the appetizers (babaganoush and falafel to the entrees (chicken kabob and lamb shank) to the desserts (halvah and baklavah). All very very good, the baklavah was the best I ever had. Great service. A very wonderful dining experience.
