Cafe Malta Ratings and Reviews
I have to confess this is one of my favorite places. It has a great atmosphere for woman. I take romantic dates there, business dates there, and my assistant there...they all love it. Even my buddies love it. The food is ALWAYS of the first rank, and the service is small and personal.
The Valentine’s Day 5-course Dinner was a delight, once again! We dined there last year for Valentine’s Day and knew we would make it a regular event. The food and wine pairings were outstanding as was the service. We enjoyed great conversation during the nearly 2-hour seating and the courses came with impeccable timing which allowed for us to really enjoy the moment. In addition to our opportunities to dine throughout the year, I will definitely make Valentine’s Day reservations again next year!
We brought a group of out-of-town friends with us. We shared that this is our favorite neighborhood place and everything on the menu will taste great. And Malta delivered. I checked the plates when all were finished and it looked like each had licked the plate clean.
Café Malta offers fresh, inventive dishes inspired by the food of countries of the Mediterranean. Great daily specials. Decent, moderately priced wine list. Plates are not huge so you can have or share an appetizer without guilt! The special dinners twice a month look interesting.
Great with steaks salads and fish. Always too hot in there. Service was not up to par we were having a good meal. She missed out on a bigger ticket. We wanted to keep going but she never asked a probeing question to get us to try more things. Or more wine or another coffee.
This was our 3rd time at Malta but our first time for dinner in over a year with some friends. It was not a very good overall experience due to the high noise level and the poor service from the waitress. When we walked in, we were pretty shocked by the very high noise level. The waitress was telling us about the specials and we did not hear a word. She pointed us to the black board so we could read them but I forgot my glasses. The waitress was not motivated to be there and serve us. We had to force info. out of her and she finally admitted that she had only been there a month. I had to wave her down a few times to please bring us some water and more drinks. She did not check in on us much. Café Malta is too much of a nice place to have staff that does not promote or market the restaurant in a positive and good way.
Met with neighborhood friends for dinner. We had never been and were very impressed with the overall upscale vibe and fantastic food. Portions a little on the small side but adequate especially given the quality of the food. Delicious. Craft cocktails were also an added plus. Would recommend .
We moved to South Austin over 6 years ago from Virginia. Without a doubt, this is our favorite restaurant for all occasions. The menu is fantastic and always changing, concentrating on Mediterranean cuisine. The food is fresh, no freezer on premises. Their Tour de Forks menus are a great way to sample a specific cuisine. Can't recommend this place too much.
The special appetizer was very good--beef skewer with pesto-ganouche. Unfortunately my meal--the Bistro Steak--was FAR too salty; actually inedible. I did not send it back because we were with friends. My husband had the Brisket Ravioli which he found far too garlicky. I tried my friend's swordfish--it was moist if unimaginative. This may have been a one-off experience; we have been a few times before and enjoyed the food...will go again (hopefully I can convince my husband to do so!) and update then!
Normally top notch but things seemed a little slammed on a holiday weekend evening. Most of the main courses were not hot except for that of the 7th and last plate. It could have been our waiter. But overall a very nice experience and everyone liked what they ordered.
took the wife and kid for wife's b-day dinner. this is our third time at this restaurant and enjoy it every time. three of us walked out spending $105 w/ tip. Three mixed drinks (2.5 for me during h-hour), two appetizers, 3 entrees (2 hanger steaks and shrimp special), and one dessert(chocolate Chile creme brulee).
We were here about 4 years ago and enjoyed. When we were i. Austin this week, they came up on top 10. So we booked and when driving into the parking lot recalled the restaurant. Fantastic!! Even better than we remembered. Drinks, app and meal we’re wonderful!!
Wife, daughter and I had Tour de Forks dinner from Aragon, Spain. All food was well prepared, in good portions and our server, Sal, was fantastic. Only suggestion my Spanish wife has is to include some good 'country style' bread with any bean or lentil soup courses. Spaniards, and many other folks, like to sop up the soup with bread. We eat here often, especially on Spanish featured nights, and are never disappointed.
Our party consisted of two couples, each celebrating a birthday. It was also the first time the couples had seen one another in six months. Needless to say, we wanted to catch up. Carmen understood our desires and gave us time and space to chat. As usual, the food was delightful. Three of us enjoyed fish dishes while the fourth had the pork shoulder. All four meals were delightful to look at and even more fun to eat. Because of our dual birthday celebration, Carmen treated us to a dessert of our choosing per couple. It was a wonderful experience with a restaurant we truly enjoy returning to and meeting up with great friends. I would be remiss to not mention that Cafe Malta uses locally sourced food and everything is obviously fresh.
Some relatives from San Antonio were coming up to visit us for lunch, so I wanted to pick a restaurant in South Austin that they could easily find, and would offer interesting food. Cafe Malta was the perfect choice. The menu is varied, innovative, and rationally priced. It is not just the standard "Mediterranean" fare. There is obviously a lot of thought and skill going into the menu. There are a pleasantly large number of vegetarian selections -- ones that carnivores would even be interested in selecting. They offer a very well chosen and nicely priced wine list, as well as a full bar. The staff was quite friendly and helpful. The decor is quite pleasant -- you quickly forget that you are really in the middle of a strip center!
