We were here about 4 years ago and enjoyed. When we were i. Austin this week, they came up on top 10. So we booked and when driving into the parking lot recalled the restaurant. Fantastic!! Even better than we remembered. Drinks, app and meal we’re wonderful!!

Wife, daughter and I had Tour de Forks dinner from Aragon, Spain. All food was well prepared, in good portions and our server, Sal, was fantastic. Only suggestion my Spanish wife has is to include some good 'country style' bread with any bean or lentil soup courses. Spaniards, and many other folks, like to sop up the soup with bread. We eat here often, especially on Spanish featured nights, and are never disappointed.

Our party consisted of two couples, each celebrating a birthday. It was also the first time the couples had seen one another in six months. Needless to say, we wanted to catch up. Carmen understood our desires and gave us time and space to chat. As usual, the food was delightful. Three of us enjoyed fish dishes while the fourth had the pork shoulder. All four meals were delightful to look at and even more fun to eat. Because of our dual birthday celebration, Carmen treated us to a dessert of our choosing per couple. It was a wonderful experience with a restaurant we truly enjoy returning to and meeting up with great friends. I would be remiss to not mention that Cafe Malta uses locally sourced food and everything is obviously fresh.

Some relatives from San Antonio were coming up to visit us for lunch, so I wanted to pick a restaurant in South Austin that they could easily find, and would offer interesting food. Cafe Malta was the perfect choice. The menu is varied, innovative, and rationally priced. It is not just the standard "Mediterranean" fare. There is obviously a lot of thought and skill going into the menu. There are a pleasantly large number of vegetarian selections -- ones that carnivores would even be interested in selecting. They offer a very well chosen and nicely priced wine list, as well as a full bar. The staff was quite friendly and helpful. The decor is quite pleasant -- you quickly forget that you are really in the middle of a strip center!

Nice evening though not a fan of our tour of the world prifixe meal. When I made the reservation on opentable, I was not aware of the special menu. Had I known, I would not have made a reservation. Very disappointed in our meals :/

Without a doubt, Cafe Malta is my favorite neighborhood restaurant in Austin. Their Tour de Fork tasting menu sampling Mediterranean food is a wonderful affordable secret. It is our favorite place to take friends when they come to town.

Tour de Forks either had an uninspired night or things are falling off. My daughter, visiting from NYC, and I went for Egypt. She had all vegetarian options and I had all regular options. Not one dish was tasty and several were inedible. The meat was dry for my entree. Her “national dish” for Egypt was a bland and watery pond with odd macaroni and some insipid blond crumbly something over the top with less flavor than the watery stuff. Not up to par. The waiter also missed the mark. He brought the wrong things, brought glasses of wine when we had said we would get a bottle. On top of it all I’m paying $80 for the flavorless and insipid, barely edible meal/experience. And again their wine selections still are awful.

The food was lovely. Maybe the waitress just got some very bad news so if it was just a tragic day than it should all be forgiven. I only mention this in the case of an ongoing pattern. I brought my friend for her birthday and it was anything but joyful. The server was somber, stern almost and very unwelcoming. Frankly, when I'm getting quick cheap food, I'm fine with that. But the bill at Cafe Malta is too steep to eat with that vibe..especially on someone's birthday.

One of our favorite restaurants. We return frequently and always find the food and service to be consistently excellent. Always have unique specials but the regular items on their menu such as the Bistro are very good.

This was our first at Cafe Malta but won't be our last. Although it is a bit noisy we still had an intimate dinner for two. The food is unique and very delicious. The service is fast without being rushed. It was a wonderful surprise for a neighborhood restaurant.

This was one of my go-to restaurants when I lived nearby. A little gem hidden in a strip mall! This time, however, I felt that the food had slipped a little. The brisket ravioli in particular were tough, bland and not very hot when they reached the table. My friend really liked the hangar steak, however.

Cafe Malta is always fantastic! Great, unique menu that changes, and very creative dishes. It's got a nice bar and wine list, and it's small enough to feel kind of cozy. The only criticism I have is that it can be a bit noisy.

Greeted by a server who said “welcome back”! Words never spoken to us before. We don’t dine out often, and when we can, date night is Cafe Malta night. Great service all night long.
The only non-5 star review was the special for the night. The lamb was sliced too thin, and was very dry. My husbands hanger steak was perfectly cooked and juicy in comparison.

Why on earth do you insist I write 50 words, I'm doing you a favor.

The other courses were good but the main meal - a full skin chicken leg with peppers was a bit disappointing. This time the appertif was a small vial of coke and red wine which seems off but I figure they must serve it somewhere in Portugal. Bean soup was good and tasted very fresh. The almond desert was fantastic.

If you are hard of hearing I'd say skip the tour de force and try to find a time that's quite.'

My husband bought a bottle of Pino Grigio - no idea what it cost, but it was fantastic.

Service was very busy but nice.

I gather that this is a family run enterprise -l ike all restaurants they need to manage, it's nice to resenber stay local.

Wife and I went for the Tour de Forks night featuring the Basque Region of Spain. The Kalimotxo aperitif (basically red wine and coca cola) hit the spot. Very refreshing. First course of tortilla de bacalao (wife) and pintxo de champinon (me) was superb. Second course of Garbure (both) very tasty, but the beans needed to be cooked a little longer. Third course of poulet basquaise (both), a browned and simmered chicken thigh, was tender and juicy but slightly bland in taste. Finally, the dessert, etxeko biskotxa, an almond cake was to die for. Reminded me of the Tarte de Santiago we enjoyed in Santiago de Compostela. A delicious ending to a very good meal. They have a good selection of wines, although I enjoyed a Estrella Damm beer. Our server, Sal, is the best. Very friendly, attentive and professional. This is our third meal featuring a region of Spain and we look forward to many more. Yes, my wife is from Spain and a great cook.

We thought of Cafe Malta at about 7pm on a Wednesday night for dinner. Had no trouble booking a reservation for 7:30. It is in our neighborhood. We were seated right away and the service was excellent. Our waiter was very knowlegeable about the menu and the wines and took care to manage the pacing of our courses. We had plenty of time to enjoy our delicious appetizers before our main course was delivered. The portions are perfect! Enough to enjoy the creative cuisine, but not to overstuff you. We even had room for dessert! We will definitely be going back soon!

The ambience was perfect for a date night with my husband. The lights were low, the space small + intimate, and overall quaint. My husband had The Tom Pollens cocktail, which was phenomenal. Our server was attentive and warm while also giving us space to enjoy our date night. I would absolutely go back but I wasn't blown away by the food. I'm a vegetarian and felt it was lacking in vegetarian options. The option I did get was a small plate of sauted vegetables and a poached egg. Not anything special + it was gritty. (There may have been breadcrumbs.) My husband loved his gnocchi app and brisket ravioli meal. I have no doubt he'll be dragging me back.
