About this restaurant

Restaurateurs Dennis and Estella Quinones-Foy have been redefining modern American fine dining since 1996, the year they were awarded Best New Restaurant for their New York City venture EQ. Their eponymous Dennis Foy in Tribeca was one of Esquire’s 2007 Best New Restaurants, and in 2013, their d’floret in Lambertville found a place on New Jersey Monthly’s Best New list. The committed restauranteurs’ new concept in Red Bank, NJ, Café Loret, is a modern American brasserie. Café Loret is an elegantly lit stage that exhibits Chef Foy’s dual passions: his fine art paintings, and of course his culinary mastery, where he presents exquisitely crafted dishes blending French, American, and Mediterranean influences. As one of the original founders of New American cuisine and the farm-to-table movement, local markets will heavily influence the seasonal, ever-changing menu.

We made a reservation for our wedding anniversary with no issues. We received a confirmation for this reservation a day or so beforehand. Upon arrival to the restaurant it was CLOSED. When we called the restaurant, the voicemail stated that the owners went on vacation. Yet there we were with a confirmed reservation. Since it was 7:30pm on a Saturday night, ALL of the other BYOB's in the neighborhood suitable for a 1 year anniversary were booked until at least 10pm. After chatting with a few neighboring restaurants and people it seemed as though no one knew who or what Cafe Loret was. Awful experience and we didn't even set foot in the restaurant yet. If you have important plans or celebrations, this is NOT the place for you.

Entree presentation was poor. Main entree was Served on like small diner side dish. Menu was very limited. 3rd time there. Not extremely impressed. Best dish was homemade pasta appetizer.

Was our first time and we were excited based on reviews. First I’d say that the place is very nicely decorated and inviting. The appetizers were divine! Especially the chanterelle soup. Yum!! Unfortunately, that was the best part of our meal. The entrees were “okay” and the dessert a bit of a disappointment. We got the peach pie which came served with ice-cream and so we naturally assumed the pie would be warm. That was not the case. Nonetheless, overall we enjoyed our meal and would likely go back.

This was our first visit to Cafe Loret. We purposely waited as initial reviews when they opened were not good. Even more recent reviews have been very mixed: people seem to either love or hate this restaurant. Our opinion was very neutral. Our party was composed of two local foodie couples and we all sampled different items on the menu. Everything we received was well cooked and perfectly acceptable, but nothing was outstanding. On a Saturday evening the place was half empty yet it took quite a while to get our food. Prices are moderate to high but it's BYOB. We would eat there again, but we will not be dashing back. Compared to Semolina (also in Red Bank) where we dined recently, it was rather lackluster.

Appetizers and Entrees were excellent. Would have been overall excellent had the service not been slow towards the end. Will try it again!

Beautiful ambiance, delicious food, and nice service. Quiet enough to hear our friends talk, which is so rare. We'll definitely return!

Although we greatly enjoy trying out interesting new restaurants, Cafe Loret has become a go-to place for dinners with friends. Food is expertly prepared and beautifully presented. Service is warm, friendly, and efficient. The atmosphere is gracious, and it is quiet enough for good table conversation. The prix fixe dinner menu is a particularly good deal.

I had the lamb chops, which were $42. They were full of fat, almost an equal ratio. There was a very small portion of mashed potatoes on the plate (which were pasty) and an even smaller amount of beets. The meat was juicy but there was no jus on the plate, as their typically is with a lamb dish. In addition, the lamb tasted like it was seasoned with cinnamon, which I've never known to be a spice that compliments lamb. Very disappointing overall. My husband had the chicken scalloppini. By its name, you'd expect a thin-sliced, tender cutlet. However, it was thick and tough, and heavily seasoned. This Italian dish was accompanied by "french fries" (a bit odd and diner-like) and there was no vegetable on the plate. Equally disappointing. With that said, the hostess was very apologetic, and offered us a dessert on the house.
