Had the lamb special with cheesey grits and tomatoes. Taste was excellent but grits were lukewarm and tomatoes were cold.

It's not only my favorite restaurant in Sonoma, it is by far the best. Everything on the menu is delicious, had the filet mignon tonight and it was to die for. My wife had the petrole sole which was also very delicious. The chocolate silk cake is possibly the best chocolate cake I've ever had. Cannot recommend this restaurant enough.

Cafe La Haye is a "Must Go" restaurant in downtown Sonoma - end of story - book it now.

My wife and I are fortunate to eat out 5+ days a week, throughout the Bay Area (U.S. & Europe) and know food/dining experiences and have high standards/expectations.
This can be a good & bad thing (wink). There is such a thing as knowing too much !!!

Cafe La Haye has a very nice wine list/selection . . . just some examples here are 11 wines by the glass from $10 to $16 . . . 6 half-bottles from $32 to $87 . . . a very nice bottle selection of reds & whites . . . 15+ whites from $38 to $155 . . . 20+ reds from $46 to $110 . . . including a hard to find Rafanelli Cab or Zin . . . then there is the 25 reserve bottles from a Shafer Hillside Select to an over-the-top Screaming Eagle or Romanee Conti La Tache . . . we'll occasionally bring our own bottle . . . their Corkage is $25.

One of my biggest food nightmares is a DRY pork chop :-(
The pork chop here is STELLAR and VERY moist, as it's marinated in buttermilk for 24 hours . . .
"Crusted Pork Chop" with ricotta dumplings, mustard cream, chorizo butter ($24)

One of my wife's favorite dishes is their FRESH Pasta . . .
"Fresh Tagliarini Pasta" with caggiano sausage, escarole, piquillo pepper, cippolini onion, lemon EVOO ($23)

Just some of their amazing SIDES: Potato Gruyère Gratin or Bloomsdate Spinach & Garlic ($8 each)

Great Desserts like a Chocolate Silk Cake with a pecan-fleur de sel crust ($10) . . . just right and a great way to end your experience.

Great food & service . . . book it right now, as they will be booked solid !!!

Dining with friends while having a weekend trip to Sonoma. Café La Haye was an excellent choice - within walking distance of our accommodations. The food was excellent, and service was smooth. The butter lettuce salads were delicious and the best entrée was the Taglarini Pasta. The risotto was filling, but not really memorable.

The highlight of our meal was the supersized and delicious apple crisp - shared by our party of three and we couldn't finish it.

Cafe La Haye is 1 of the top 3 restaurants in downtown Sonoma - without a doubt.

I love pork chops . . . but one of my biggest food nightmares is a DRY pork chop :-(

The pork chop here is STELLAR and VERY moist, as it's marinated in buttermilk for 24 hours . . .

Buttermilk Brined Pork Chop with a chorizo butter crust, black bean-corn relish ($20)

One of my wife's favorite dishes is their FRESH Tagliarini Pasta . . .

Fresh Tagliarini Pasta with sausage & ham, shishito pepper, onion, garlic, tomato, basil, aged emmenthaler ($23)

Amazing SIDES: Warm Beets with Goat Cheese and the Yukon Potato-Scallion Cake ($7 each)

Dessert for us that night (to share) was the Chocolate Silk Cake with pecan-fleur de sel crust ($9) . . . just right and a great way to end your experience.

A nice wine list . . . from a very good (and hard to find) Rafanelli . . . to an over-the-top Screaming Eagle . . . or . . . bring your own bottle - Corkage is $25.

OK - OK . . . the other 2 fantastic restaurants in downtown Sonoma (if you can't get in here) are Harvest Moon . . . and . . . The girl & the fig . . . Enjoy !

We’ve dined here before and once again had a fantastic experience from beginning to end. Our waiter was friendly and professional, with wonderful dining suggestions. The butter leaf salad and little gem salad, as well as the salad of the day were all so fresh and tasty. The shrimp cake appetizer also was excellent. The taglialini and risotto were both wonderful, as was the roasted chicken and pork chop. We’ll be back.

Despite the difficulty getting a reservation (it's, deservedly, a popular place), it remains (along with Oso) one of the top restaurants in Sonoma. Food is outstanding and the service is terrific. Can't go wrong.

I had to make a reservation the week before for a Friday night as it was tough getting a reservation for a Friday night the Thursday before. It was worth the wait as our dining experience was wonderful. Our waitress was great, salads and entrees were delicious and we, of course, had to have the cheesecake and coffee. Fabulous!!!! We plan to return soon. Thank you!!!!

Terrible beer choices. Grapefruit beer, what the heck! Great heirloom tomato salad, entrees good but too precious. Many restaurants add strange flavors thinking it makes them stand out. Maybe so, but not in a good way. It was okay but not great overall. I'd recommend if you like fussy newish cuisine. Would never go back myself.

Great food and impeccable service in the center of Sonoma. It is a small place filled with locals but we were treated like royalty. The quail and tomato soup were our favorite. A must if you go to Sonoma.

My wife and I hadn’t eaten at La Haye for three years or so, and we both felt that the quality of the food had deteriorated from what it used to be. We won’t be going back again unless we hear there is a new chef.

We love the restaurant but felt rushed by the wait staff. We ordered an appetizer to share, a salad to share and two entrees. We were surprised when the appetizer and salad arrived together. There was hardly room on the table for sharing both! We were hoping for a relaxing meal and this rushed feeling continued as one server kept trying to clear our salad plate. We had been there for one half hour and had had two courses with the entrees about to be served. This is the first time that we have been disappointed in your restaurant. We are from out of the area and had driven there expecting to have our usual wonderful evening!

This is a small but pleasant place. The white walls are pleasingly offset with nice artwork. Our server was very good and very helpful with our wine selection. The food was good and the portion sizes appropriate.

The dining area is on two levels. We were in the the upper rear corner and it was quite warm. We asked that the two ceiling fans be turned on and they were, but of course after about half an hour someone else was too cool and asked for them to be off, so even with several windows open, as the place filled up it was quite warm.

We had a excellent meal from an interesting and varied menu. Choice was not extensive, but that was good as it meant food was freshly cooked, not prepared and just reheated!

Service was attentive but not pushy - we had the whole evening for our meal.

Price was pretty high, for food and wine, but then you pay for quality!

We made reservations here to celebrate my 70th birthday.

So, when the waitress asked to take our order, I explained that due to medical issues, I could not eat a lot nor eat quickly. That we desired to be able to split items and have time between salad, appetizer, entree and desert. Also, because I never know ahead of time how much I can eat, due to serving sizes and speed at which they deliver each course, I wanted to be able to order one thing at a time and then wait a bit to order more.

I ordered a reasonably expensive bottle of wine (an '09 Stony Hill 'Napa Valley' Chardonnay$68) and then a nice salad for the 2 of us to split and asked that they split it in the kitchen for us. She said "the chef would not split salads" and she "would bring an extra plate and we could do it ourselves". She was obviously upset that I would not order everything all at once, which I refuse to do!

Then, I ordered the "fish special" (grilled salmon) and again requested they split it for us in the kitchen. When it arrived, she brought it on one plate and set down a smaller empty plate. When I questioned that and complained, she just had an attitude. I told her if I knew they wouldn't split the entree, I would not have ordered, but would have left to go someplace where they might appreciate my business. A gentlemen came over and asked what the problem was, after I explained, he took the plate and returned later with two plates, "split" ...

The salmon was terrible and definitely not up to the level you should expect from a very high-end restaurant. I would never set foot in the place again and would advise everyone I know not to either.

My husband loved his little gem salad and his salmon. The salmon was cooked perfectly and he enjoyed the grits My vegetable terrine was scrumptious and the pork chop had deskicous flavor. Would have liked it cooked a bit less but that was my doing. We were there during the heat wave and it was very warm in the restaurant. Service was good not great.

A quiet and quaint little place with a small menu, this is a neighborhood gem in downtown Sonoma. The food taste like home made and the restaurant owner and staff are extremely nice and attentive. There are quite a few specials on the menu and you can bring your own bottle for a corkage fee. There are only a few tables so it's a place for a nice quiet meal.
