I marked our visit as "everyday dining" because we could dine there every single day! We are several times a year quests ever since we moved to Sonoma County. This is place is perfect each time we come. Food is consistently amazing, well trained professional staff and extremely kind owner at your service. Leave the kids at home and forget large parties. This is a small gem just of the Plaza. By far the best restaurant in Sonoma and Napa combined. Need to ad a "PERFECTION" box to the survey.
Please don't tell anyone we want to keep our table open.

This was our second time to Cafe La Haye and we were not disappointed. Celebrated my husbands birthday and the food and the service could not have been better. Remember to make reservations as they are always booked ahead (because they are so good!)

Overall, this is a great go-to place in Sonoma! We have tried lots of other restaurants in the area and quite a few of them are not worth spending any money on. This one is cozy, has good food, great service, and a good wine list.

Cafe La Haye can be relied on to provide a very good meal at a reasonable price. I don't know of any other restaurant in Sonoma that I can say that about.

On my last visit, my brother and I shared a beet salad. The roasted beets with frisee were lightly dressed and delicious. I ate mine with a piece of buttered bread and it was a perfect beginning. The quail had been boned at the restaurant, and it was quite large. It had bread stuffing and a flavorful green sauce--a delicious Thanksgiving dinner for one. After the quail we were full, so we shared the tangerine sorbet---yum. We had glasses of the Maclaren syrah with the dinner. The wine was delicious. We both wanted a low-alcohol wine and our server kindly found the alcohol content of the five or six red wines served by the glass.

Please note that the restaurant offered several dishes that were not on the online menu, and the quail was one of them.

We had a wonderful experience. We were actually 20 minutes late for our reservation, my fault. I had thought it was 6:30 but was 6:00. We felt awkward at first but the staff was very friendly and we had a very nice evening.

The service was great. You felt like your dining experience really mattered to them. The wine list was complete with local wines with a reasonable corkage fee. Now to the most important part of dining out! The Food! Our group had the Pork Chop, fish of the day and the Quail. Everyone described their meal as very good and can’t wait to come back!!

Warm and friendly staff who made fine dining unbelievably accessible. This is my first restaurant review and for good reason- this restaurant was exceptional because of the staff and quality of the ingredients. The host made me comfortable from the start, poured a glass of bubbly while we were waiting for our table then walked over and suggested that it was completely acceptable to pickup the quail with my hands instead of fighting it with a fork and knife. California laidback with upscale California quality- loved it!

Cafe La Haye is one of the best restaurants in downtown Sonoma - end of story - book it right now, as they will be booked solid.

Owner/class act Saul oversees the cozy dining room . . . while Chef Jeffrey Lloyd, one time executive chef at Michael Mina and Aqua in San Francisco . . . works his magic in the small open kitchen.

My wife and I are fortunate to eat out 4 to 5 days a week, throughout the Bay Area and enjoy food/dining experiences . . . and have high standards/expectations.

Cafe La Haye has a very nice wine list/selection . . . just some examples here are 11 wines by the glass from $10 to $16 . . . 6 half-bottles from $32 to $87 . . . a very nice bottle selection of reds & whites . . . 15+ whites from $38 to $155 . . . 20+ reds from $46 to $110 . . .
and then there is the 25 reserve bottles ($$$) . . . their Corkage is $25.

One of my biggest food nightmares is a DRY pork chop :-( The pork chop here is STELLAR and VERY moist, as it's marinated in buttermilk for 24 hours . . . "Crusted Pork Chop" with ricotta dumplings, mustard cream, chorizo butter crust ($24) = Crazy Good.

One of my wife's favorite dishes is their FRESH Pasta . . . "Fresh Tagliarini Pasta" with caggiano sausage, escarole, piquillo pepper, cippolini onion, lemon EVOO ($23) = Memorable . . . or the Roasted Chicken, onion-soy jus, broccoli & carrot ($20) just like in Paris !

Just some of their amazing SIDES: Potato Gruyère Gratin or Bloomsdate Spinach & Garlic ($8 each)

Great Desserts like the Chocolate Silk Cake with a pecan-fleur de sel crust ($10) = great to share . . . dark & dense, yet creamy . . . just right . . . and a great way to end your dining experience.

Café La Haye is always a favorite with locals in Sonoma because the food is well prepared, the wine list thoughtful and the atmosphere conducive for a date. If you like really poultry and game they prepare it better than anyone locally.

Took a retiring physician here, as he said it was his favorite restaurant in Sonoma. After dining there I can see why. Every item from the menu was prepared perfectly & was totally delicious. There were great wines on their list, which were very reasonably priced. It was a small & cozy restaurant, yet sophisticated with friendly & attentive wait staff.

We were seated near the dish washing stations, which are looked in upon from the restaurant; too noisy and distracting for a 40th anniversary dinner.

Food and seasonings are always spot on, it’s evident that they have passion for the food they serve. Service is usually very capable. I did notice that service was different for my table and a celebrity table. Consistency would be appreciated. The pork chop and quail dinners were to be commended. I would not recommend the roasted chicken dinner, the other offerings are just SO delectable.

Completely not worth it for the price. A side of broccolini was $7 I believe. 3 smallish pieces that tasted like fish. Gag, I did not finish it. Pork Chop was good but over cooked. Apparently people rave about the pudding so we tried it. It was good but nothing special. I argued with my wife that it was instant. The food overall was not bad (other then that broccoli yuck). At this price point I expect more. The waitress literally offered us 7 difference opportunities to spend more money. Would you like shrimp with salad, that is an extra X amount. Would you like this, would you like that, can I offer you this and that. Everything is extra. We only spent 100 bucks for two of us but could have easily spent 150 to 200 had we got everything we wanted. At that price the food should be AMAZING and as I said it was okay at best. Lot of variety for wine (and if you plan on going all out you should plan to spend at least 100 on the choices they offer). The ambiance was nice. We went for New Years Eve. Offering a free glass of champagne or something would have been a nice touch but again as pushy as these people are and everything costs extra no chance of getting any freebies there. I joked that they were going to charge us for fresh air.

We forgot how good this place is! We dined here years ago and we decided to go again this trip on our first night in town. We were pleasantly surprised by the cozy atmosphere, the friendly service and simple but delicious food. We ordered the crab cake, it was perfect! We shared the pork chop and gruyere cheese gratin. The gnocchi with lemon aioli was a nice accompaniment to the pork. We will be back to this neighborhood hidden gem! 21 years is a long time to be a competitive presence in the Sonoma Square.
