Cafe La Haye Ratings and Reviews
From start to finish, our meal was outstanding! If I lived in the area, it would be my weekly haunt!! Can't say enough great things about the meal. Hangar steak was sublime, veal chop was perfection and our starter salad of arugula and portobellos was mind blowing.
This was a last minute decision and one that we were extremely happy with. The restaurant called us to confirm our reservation and also to advise that they had a cancellation earlier in the evening if we wanted to come in earlier. Very considerate! The food was delicious and beautifully presented. We tried a few of the specials which were amazing! Loved their wine list too - they had some great local bottles which we really enjoyed. When we are back in the area we will definitely come back!
My husband and I had dinner here this past Saturday and walked away totally pleased. Cafe La Haye is a small restaurant with a nice ambiance with its open and tiered floorplan. Our food was delicious with its combination of flavors and tastes. I had the papardelle with slow roassted pork, which was so different and delicious! It combined interesting ingredients into a wonderful pasta. My husband had the hanger steak, which just melted in one's mouth. We loved the butterscotch pudding and hot fudge. Plus, the service was very attentive and pleasant. Overall, we had a dinner that was wonderful. We will definitely return!
We loved our meal here. The starters were the hit: lightly fried sand dabs perfectly cooked over bed of greens and silky wonderfully flavored roasted red pepper corn soup. For entrees, the lamb chops and artic char were delicious as well. Finished off meal with very good meyer lemon crepes; the right not-too-sweet, refreshing ending to the meal. Best meal we've had in Sonoma.
The mussel bisque was amazing but the salad with black olives and cheese was too boring.
As for the trout, it was perfect but I found the couscous too boring.
I preferred the scallops and the polenta which more tasty.
The wine selection was impeccable. The service was great, very kind and helpful.
Food is imaginative (but not far-out), well-prepared and simply delicious! We especially like the papardelle with pulled pork, which makes a great main course or shared appetizer. The grilled char was fantastic -- flavorful, moist and cooked perfectly. Our desserts -- Meyer lemon crepes and butterscotch pudding with chocolate -- were absolutely outstanding.
Great wine-list, which the owner/maitre d' knows intimately. Cafe La Haye is priced about the same as many lesser restaurants in the area.
The only minor quibble is that the busboy (a girl actually) seemed not completely tuned in. She brought a bread basket with four pieces of sourdough and a single piece of brown bread -- for four people.
Great spot just off the square. Small, cozy. Very friendly and the food was quite good. The menu is limited and there is quite a bit of pork. The only real issue we had was the table was set up against a wall where another table was set over us on a landing. The couple above sort of hovered above spilled thier drinks more than once over onto us. The place is small so they had no where to move us. This was not their fault and really added laughter to the table. Food was very good and we would return. I would make reservations.
By far and away the best meal and and dining experience we had in Wine Country, which included a few more "famous chef" places. The veal and steak were just about the most tender and delicious meats I've ever had! Everything was wonderful, and the host was especially attentive and sweet without ever being intrusive. Highest recommendation!!
Saul does a great job as owner and operator. The chef and his staff creates every dish with love. We come to Sonoma annually and always enjoy Cafe La Haye a couple of times. Our most recent experience was for a party of three, with different starters and main plates for everyone. Raves all around. Going back again very soon.
Wonderful food, and our server was just the BEST. My Artic Char was excellent, Husband's Quail very good. The asparagus appetizer was good but we did not expect it to be cold, as there was a poached egg on top. We'd have preferred it warm but that is the only negative. The Almond cake dessert, to DIE for! Wonderful friendly service and we will definitely come back. Thank you for making my birthday dinner special.
I had read some good reviews and I think was expecting more. The service was great, the chicken entree lacked seasoning and our seats were smack in the middle of the restaurant on the second floor. Luckily I didn't have a dress on otherwise it would have been uncomfortable. the mixed green salad first course was great but that with the service gave it a overall good rating.
Nothing short of perfection what a gem! We were welcomed by the owner (most likely the owner he was so gracious) and were seated quickly. We started with simple cheese plate followed by the most wonderful main course. I had the chicken, so moist, sauce to die for. Mom had the tenderloin, cooked perfectly with the most delicious mash potatoes ever! Dad had the pork tenderloin marvelous. Ok, just when we though it could not get anymore amazing they brought the desert, a almond muffin with scoop of vanilla ice cream, oh my goodness. If you are in Sonoma, do yourself a favor a stop by Cafe La Haye, you will not be sorry.
May have been my jet lag but nothing on the menu really appealed to me. I went with the artichoke appetizer and it was just filled with some breadcrumb thing- was hoping for a nice grilled, fresh artichoke. BF got a fish dish which was fresh and tasty. Service was very friendly and gave a fantastic breakfast recommendation on the square.
Highly recommended to us by two friends of ours as a dinner place not to miss while in Sonoma. It was our 23rd Anniversary dinner and it was all Excellent!
Our table was ready at our reservation time. The Chef customized my meal due to my Lactose allergies and the food was succulent/delicious. Quaint, personal, romantic (ask for the window table when you book your reservation) and we will definitely return on our next visit to Sonoma.
