Great early dinner at Cafe La Haye. We are locals, and hadn't been there in awhile. Decor in the small space is somewhat spartan, but service and food were superb! Glad we stopped in and we'll return sooner!

Casual atmosphere and great food, great service - as always.
It's a treat to dine here because everyone is so pleasant and the food is so excellent.
We wished it were a bigger place because reservations aren't always available when we're in town to dine, but then again, it could all be tied to the magic of that small kitchen.

Went with some friends for a Friday dinner. The atmosphere and space was super cool. Our starter salads were all good. Two of us got the risotto which didn't have a ton of flavor. One friend ordered the pork chop though it ended up being breaded and she has celiacs disease. This wasn't noted at all on the menu. The waitress just said yeah it's not noted and handed her the menu to pick something else without saying xyz items are gluten free. The manager came by to apologize and she asked what would be the quickest so we could all eat together and he suggested the fish so she got that. That fish dish was actually tasty but the situation was awkward and we were surprised the dish wasn't comped and in fact she was charged for the more expensive fish dinner. Ambiance was cool but service and food were definitely not great, especially for the price.

Very welcoming and friendly. Owner very engaged. Filet was a little too done and they made every effort to replace. When told it wasn't necessary the desert was comped. Nice touch.

We eat there often. It's usually solid. This time was a miss. Bland and boring. I hope this does not spell poor things for the future.

Food is always delicious at La Haye. Seasonal, fresh and full of flavor. Nice selection of wine, noting that you are in wine country, Good size portions.
Wait people are friendly and on point. We like it for special occasions. The wonderful thing is it's is good now as it was when if opened.

Cafe La Haye has a great intimate vibe. Saul, the owner, is very gracious and makes you feel like an honored guest. The food was the best we experienced on our restaurant-focused vacation to Napa-Sonoma and San Francisco. The marinated filet mignon was a big hit with two members of our group. I loved the catch of the day, which was a unique salmon preparation. My wife really enjoyed the fresh Tagliarini Pasta. The throwback butterscotch pudding was a nice touch for dessert. Service was warm and attentive throughout the evening. Thanks for a great experience Saul!

Definitely one of the top 2 restaurants in Sonoma. Wine country casual, but very serious about ingredients and preparation. I've never had even a mediocre dish from their kitchen...always outstanding. Service is always professional and engaging. Owner is a real presence and it matters.

Cafe La Haye is 1 of the top 3 restaurants in downtown Sonoma - without a doubt.

I love pork chops . . . but one of my biggest food nightmares is a DRY pork chop :-(

The pork chop here is STELLAR and VERY moist, as it's marinated in buttermilk for 24 hours . . .

Buttermilk Brined Pork Chop with a chorizo butter crust, black bean-corn relish ($20)

One of my wife's favorite dishes is their FRESH Tagliarini Pasta . . .

Fresh Tagliarini Pasta with sausage & ham, shishito pepper, onion, garlic, tomato, basil, aged emmenthaler ($23)

Amazing SIDES: Warm Beets with Goat Cheese . . . Charred Shishito Peppers . . . Almond-Scallion Basmati Rice . . . Yukon Potato-Scallion Cake ($7 each)

Dessert for us that night (to share) was the Chocolate Silk Cake with pecan-fleur de sel crust ($9) . . . just right and a great way to end your experience.

A nice wine list . . . from a very good and hard to find Rafanelli . . . to an over-the-top Screaming Eagle . . . or . . . Corkage is $25.

Fantastic food, wine & service = book it now !

OK - OK . . . the other two fantastic restaurants in downtown Sonoma (if you can't get in here) are Harvest Moon . . . and . . . The girl & the fig . . . Enjoy !

Food is always consistent and very good. Portions are small for the price and service is inconsistent. On this recent visit our server was less than stellar, seemed to want to rush us and was very transactional and not very attentive. However, we can always count on the food being delicious and we still had a great time.

Once again Cafe LaHaye exceeds expectations. We love the small but perfectly selected menu and wine list. The specials are mouthwatering and the pork chop is divine. The service was friendly and accommodating as always. As a local favorite we started out with some pretty high expectations and they were exceeded as usual. We love it here!

Great meal. The pork was fantastic, probably the best iv'e had. The salad on special was very plain but I should have expected that as it was very minimal on ingredients. Great ambiance, friendly staff. I will definitely be back!

Had heard very good things but was left disappointed. There is a very small menu (3/4 mains) and additional specials which I think is great but when you have sold out of one of your non special dishes and don't let the customer know until they are ordering I think this is poor form. The chicken I had was cooked well but there was nothing interesting flavour wise unfortunately. Just decent roast chicken.

Our dinner was very good. Or server was lovely, very helpful with diet restrictions. She made some excellent suggestions as food choices. Our busboy seemed pretty put out when we asked for more bread, but other than that the evening was great. A hot fudge gelato with chocolate dipped big cherries was the best!

I come to Sonoma from Philadelphia 2x per year on business (for the past 2 years) and always have dinner at Cafe La Haye. Esther is great with recomnedations and her service. The food is wonderful and Saul makes sure everything is perfect. This time my wife was with me and after all the Napa dinners and several in Sonoma, she agreed that this was her favorite by far. I have the excellent Pork Chop each time - I am not sure how they make it taste so good. My wife had the pasta with sausage, spinach, tomoatos, etc. As always, superb. Prices are nice and not overpriced like many restaurants around. Will be back later this week (Thursday night I think) with a colleague to enjoy one more time. Hopefully I'll be back again in 6 months.

Charming restaurant in appearance; however, the food did not live up to expectations.
Disappointing dinner. The bread normally served along with cocktails/wine was dry. The salmon requested to be served "medium" was fleshy raw. The grilled vegetable was black on the outside and unappetizing.
Couldn't wait to pay our bill and leave.

Dessert was awesome. Salmon and steak prepared and presented perfectly.

We were welcomed with smiles and a very competent staff. The menu appeals to a variety of tastes. It was hard to choose between menu items because they looked so good. The pan seared salmon was fantastic, as was the mushroom soup. They served my favorite bread (Meyer lemon rosemary), and desserts were lovely. I had the butterscotch pudding. I'm definitely coming back so I can try even more wonderful things! Keep up the great work!

Outstanding creative cuisine utilizing local farm to table ingredients, food preparation, and more overly service: wait staff that listen to customers, impart their knowledge and sincere appreciation for the food/wine served, and gently guide the customer to come to an informed decision. The balance of creative, deftly prepared food, complementive wine and pride in providing service in a warm, well informed, unpretentious manner was greatly welcomed. For us, La Haye has created an easily embraced addiction.
