Located just off Sonoma Plaza, Cafe La Haye offers an appealingly unfussy sophistication. The split-level dining room holds just a dozen or so tables, but its open kitchen, raftered ceiling and walls adorned with modern art create a vibrant energy that’s contagious.
Convivial owner Saul Gropman and chef Jeffrey Lloyd make a formidable team. Lloyd, former executive chef of restaurant Michael Mina, offers a seasonal menu that’s discreet in its complexity, featuring the sort of dishes that seem to get better with each bite.

This is our favorite place to celebrate special occasions. Food, beverages and service are always well executed. This time we started with the oyster bisque & ceviche, then on to pork chop and petrale sole, and ended with yuzu cheescake and butterscotch pudding. A bottle of merlot by Joel Peterson's Once and Future winery made the night extra-special. The place was bustling for a Tuesday night. Our table by the front window was sublime... and so was the service...

Food was decent but did not match the hype. Appetizers were average and main courses were just OK for the price. Pork chop was delicious, risotto was just OK. Papardelle was fine but not special. Desserts were average.

Our dinner here was near perfect. Loved the chopped salad, amazing carpaccio, savory risotto and astonishing tagliatelle with roasted peppers, ham and sausage. The butterscotch pudding was a lovely finish. Server Christina was helpful, professional and delightful. We can’t wait to return!

The food is always so amazing and prepared perfectly, a truly fantastic taste experience. Attentive service, but not overly so makes for an enjoyable meal. Friendly staff and Saul the owner is the best!

We have been to Cafe La Haye about 100 times over the 23 years we have lived outside Sonoma. It is largely unchanged in that time because it is the best restaurant in Sonoma. It has a basic menu with about five daily specials. We’ve had them all. The food looks terrific and tastes better. The staff are attentive and friendly. The ambience is good. The wine list is extensive. Cafe La Haye has had the same owner, Saul, since its inception. He seats you and stops by to check on your dinning experience. What other restaurant has that service? We’ve eaten at all the restaurants in Sonoma. Cafe La Haye is the best and has been for 23 years and is as good as any in Sonoma County. Enjoy 😃😃😃😃😃

A lovely little gem in the Sonoma square. The pork chop and vegetarian risotto were superb. Excellent wine list featuring local wineries. This is a small restaurant so you may end up talking to the people at the table next to you. The atmosphere is casual and friendly. Make reservations way ahead of time unless you get lucky and find a last minute cancellation. I highly recommend this place.

For those of us that are hard of hearing to say the noise level was energetic is quite generous. My pork loin was slightly overcooked. The appetizers were delicious. A $35 corkage charge is not generous.

Last night’s meal was spectacular from start to finish! The smoked salmon appetizer with trout caviar and quail egg was sublime! The spice chicken breast was juicy and moist with a light Mexican flare. Divine. The red snapper fish special was perfect, skin and all! Finally the almond cake with caramel ice cream was the ideal finish to a lovely meal. One visit was not enough - we are going back tonight!

Very mediocre food with a very high price. My fish was brought to my table almost completely raw and staff were nice about re-firing it but did not have much flavor.

Cafe la Haye is always excellent. ALWAYS. They maintain a few items that are incredible, but also have a number of lovely special starters and mains that focus on in-season produce, etc. Service is superb. From front of the house to the kitchen, they are staffed with absolute professionals!

It’s rare these days when the owner of a restaurant greets you at the door and comes by your table to ask if everything was ok and thanks you when you leave. That’s what you get at Cafe La Haye! Great food (loved the carpaccio with oyster on top!), ambiance, and service in Sonoma. I can see why locals love Cafe La Haye! We’ll be back!

We ordered the dinner special dishes for starters and mains, both excellent in particular the quail - one of the best we've ever experienced, succulent and moist. The wine (cabernet sauvignon) by the glass is disappointing especially in the heart of the wine country. Service is efficient and non-intrusive. Overall it ranks aas one of the best meals we've had in Sonoma.

The dinners at Cafe LaHaye are always delicious and beautifully presented. This time was no exception. The tomato bisque soup was pronounced delicious and the melon with prosciutto was just great! The special quail was very tasty with a great sauce. We always have a difficult choice between the chocolate silk slice and the almond cake with ice cream. This time the almond cake won and it was superb! The wine list is always a joy and a fine white wine was chosen. Excellent service made this dinner so special! Truly enjoyed dining here.

We had a great experience. The restaurant was small but it was still very inviting and upscale. The food choices were were varied and well prepared. The wine list is exceptional. Service was also excellent. We would definitely recommend Cafe La Haye.

For the rating of a Michelin star restaurant I was a little disappointed with the flavors of the meals. They definitely stick to fresh options and limit their offerings accordingly which is a plus. Taste was a little bland for me and I would have liked a little more flavor in my sole. Son had quail which was good. Husband had the tagliatelle pasta which was okay. The dessert almond cake and cappuccino were very good. It gets very hot inside and the venting of the kitchen makes it stuffy till the cool night air can make it in.
