Cafe La Cave Ratings and Reviews
We are from out of the area and had never heard of it so we took the chance. It was amazing!!! My colleague had the dover sole and it was beautifully prepared. I had a red snapper prepared with plenty of extras without disturbing the taste of the fish. Truly appreciated the experience!
Cafe la cave never disappoints. We went there for a birthday dinner. Service is sophisticated and exceptional. We love the wait staff and appreciate their attentive service.
The food was filling, and well prepared. I emphatically recommend this place without any reservations!
I've been here three or four times before and it's always consistently good. The Steak Diane needs to be on everyones bucket list. My date enjoyed her Chicken Piccata. Everything! Down to the hard boiled egg in my wedge salad was outstanding.
I hope your visit is as enjoyable!
Everything was wonderful as always, except for the man who now prepares the steak diane tableside. He found it necessary, while cooking my meal, to leave twice -- once to get himself a drink and a second time to deliver appetizers to another table. I found that quite unprofessional. Later, another table ordered the steak diane, and he did the same thing--went and got himself a drink during the middle of preparing the meal. The previous, older gentleman who prepared the steak diane, never, ever left once he started to prepare my meal.
Several of us loved our dishes, several liked them. It would have been a great experience with elegant ambiance had the massive number of very loud people not congregated for most of our meal at the bar, which is in the restaurant, unfortunately. Honestly, they ruined it for us, especially those harder of hearing, since we could no longer successfully converse. Apparently the bar in the restaurant is where people attending banquet events go prior to the start of their events, and they get very very rowdy... not appropriate for such an expensive restaurant. First and last time at this restaurant, unfortunately.
Beautiful ladies bathroom with brass swan faucets.
Visit after 30 years and the excellent continental style service and food still reigns. Table cloth, suited attendants, food served from wheeled carts, and table side steak Diane and whole flounder. Highly recommended. Banquet rooms for large parties available. One of the rare offerings in Chicago area or the country. This is what great dinning experience should be without feeling out of place.
My wife and I came back after getting married here in August of 2014. One taste of the Filet, and we were right there. Amazing steak, seafood, drinks and service. This is one of those places that if you haven't tried it out yet, you should definitely add it to your list!
The cave room is beautiful but the food and service are truly the things that make us want to go back again and again. Many things are cooked and/or prepared tableside which lends to the nostalgia. The Caesar salad and dover sole were beautifully prepared and presented, as was the double rack of lamb for two. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu.
We would return in a heartbeat! Began with perfectly crafted cocktails (Stoli Elite up/dry martini and Cuba Libre). Wine list was not huge but some definite gems like the 2013 Turley Old Vines Zinfandel we enjoyed! Food was outstanding. Started with app special of coconut crusted lobster over mixed microgreens - cooked perfectly with delicate crispy coating and moist, tender, sumptuous lobster inside. Sauces and greens were perfect enhancements. Entrées were seafood medallions with sauteed spinach and Dover sole filleted tableside with Hollandaise drizzled asparagus. Prep, portions, presentation, flavors, textures and consistencies were PERFECT. Ended with a delightful "cheesecake martini" - delicate, creamy cheesecake served in a martini glass with delicious, not too sweet fresh raspberry sauce and great coffee. Service was attentive but not smothering; professional but not "snooty"; friendly but not overdone and well-paced - basically perfect for our tastes! Ambiance is a little"kitschy" (cave motif) but not distracting or distasteful. Overall exceptional evening. Highly recommend!
