Cafe la Cave was selected as a date night restaurant for its location (roughly halfway between both parties) and for it's cuisine. Although the facility looks to be primarily a large wedding banquet hall, the restaurant inside was cozy, romantically lit and had a nice ambiance. I also liked the upscale look and impressive menu. I had requested booth seating (which they do not have) and was seated in a corner "cave" area that was quiet and secluded, and better than a booth. Tino the waiter was quite attentive, and water and a bread basket were brought quickly. We and split a Caesar salad, I had the Grouper special (which was delicious) and my date had the on-the-bone ribeye, which was also outstanding. We finished the evening with creme brulee and a decadent fallen chocolate creation with french vanilla ice cream. We had a 6:30 reservation and closed the place at 9:30 or so, and found the parking lot (there's ample parking) lighting to also be romantic. I would definitely return and recommend to others.
Great, romantic atmosphere combined with excellent food and top-notch, old school service. Two thumbs up!!!
Great restaurant which we have frequented often. The steaks were fantastic and cooked just the way we like them. A beautiful and unique atmosphere which definitely looks like a cave. Had a great time.
My wife and I had our wedding reception there almost ten years ago. We try to go and eat there a couple times a year. The service is outstanding!! From the time you pull up the valets, to the host or hostess(usually one of the owners), the bartender(we always go early for a cocktail), and then to our meal, our waiter and busboys treat us like family! The food is absolutely outstanding!! We highly recommend Cafe La Cave! You will not be disappointed! We love, love, love this restaurant!!
P.S. If your are looking for a venue for your wedding, check out Cafe La Cave. The service and the food is awesome! Your guests will love it! Not your typical banquet food!!
Cafe la Cave has been my family's go-to spot for special occasions. Anniversaries, milestone birthdays, and recently, commencements/graduation celebrations. On our recent visit on Friday night, we celebrated our daughter's medical school commencement. She was greeted warmly with hearty congratulations by the staff, which made her feel very special. Our meal, from appetizers to dessert, was (as always!) expertly prepared and delicious. Preparing Steak Diane table side is always a treat to watch. Very few restaurants serve Chateaubriand and we love ordering it at Cafe la Cave, as it is fabulous! This dinner for two includes perfectly prepared tenderloin served with Sauce Bearnaise, Dauphinois potatoes, and freshly steamed veggies with Hollandaise. Cherries Jubilee is our favorite dessert on the menu, as it, too, is prepared table side with flair and is scrumptious. The grated citrus rind elevates this flambeed dish, which is served over vanilla ice cream. The staff is friendly and polished, without being stuffy. We love the throw back to another era, with their formal tuxedo attire and impeccable manners. We will continue to recommend Cafe la Cave to our friends for the ambience and deliciously prepared food.
Gets an A+ for everything, food, most unique ambiance, service, especially Tino. Little pricey but worth it. Will return. 😊
Wonderful restaurant!!!! Great food, romantic atmoshere and a very special place. They always go above and beyond expectations. Love this place!
My snapper was only OK, but everything else was very good. My husband said it was the best filet mignon he'd ever had. It is not a fast in-and-out place. Dinner took 2 hours, but that is to expected in a pricey restaurant. Quite loud. Not a place for quiet conversation.
We went to celebrate my friends 84th birthday. We had a great time.
Excellent service and food. Will be back soon.
As always - the best DOVER SOLE anywhere with great service and
outstanding staff... love this place -
Impeccable service. Tableside preparation of Steak Diane and Bananas foster was wonderful.
We had not been there in a long time and it was as good as we remembered. We will return when we are back in Chicago again.
As always a completely wonderful dining experience!
I had not been to the Cave in years. Had my daughter's wedding reception there and dined frequently years ago and have been there since but not as frequently and its been a couple of years. Nothing was really bad, just okay. Neither of us tasted any garlic or flavor in the Shrimp Dejonge appetizer and the Steak Diane was bland also. Whoever was available waited on us. I don't feel I saw the same person twice. Had not received salads and the Chef appeared to cook our meal. Had to remind waiter of a request. Guess just disappointed because of the way the service and attention use to be.
The Dover sole was outstanding. Can’t wait to come again
We requested a certain table and they were able to accommodate. The food was delicious and the service was impeccable.
Cafe La Cave is simply one the best dining experiences you will encounter. The food is classic and simple, and perfectly prepared. The lobster bisque is one of the best I have had in 25 years. The Steak Diane and Cesar salad are prepared table side and are excellent. The cocktails are exceptional and wine list is very good, with wonderful high-end selections. The Owners Gus and Randy treat you like family.
We have been here several times. This time I ordered the chicken and mushroom risotto. It was not as good as some of the other dishes I have had here. We will be back, but not for the risotto. We love the cozy atmosphere and the attentive service.
We had reservations for 6:30 but arrived much earlier at 5pm. They were very accomodating and sat us right away. The service and food was great. We've been there twice and enoyed our dining experience on both occassions.
Very nice restaurant if you enjoy quiet and cozy.
Friendly greeting upon arrival.
Table service was superb. Simple Menu but effective.
Rib eye was perfectly cooked as requested medium rare.
Tasty Seafood dish... but a bit greasy with too much garlic added.
Lobster bisque was great however, the flavor was repeated into the sauce recipe included with
seafood plate. Next time we would probably choose (non seafood)selection with the lobster bisque.
We will absolutely return.
Great experience overall, my husband was very happy with everything.
As usual the food was great as was the service from Tito. The Steak Dianne cannot be beat.
As always, we had an amazing time and the food was incredible! We don't get out often but when we do, this is always our first go to.
Food and service was great
The food was amazing. I had to Steak Diane, and they cook at tableside so it was fun. My husband had the salmon and he said it was the best he had. The staff Bringing your food is very friendly. Plenty of parking for you and the ambience was very romance for our anniversary. Great place for special occasions.
Wonderful restaurant. Great gourmet food. The cave room has an awesome atmosphere.
The food and the service were exceptional. My wife an I had a great dinner here, celebrating Valentine's. Will definitively be back again.
My husband and I went to cafe la cave for our first time this year for a romantic Valentine’s Day dinner. And it was everything we hoped for. From the ambience, to the service, to the delicious food everything was wonderful! I LOVED the feel of being in a cave ♥️
First I must say the food was amazing. Waiter not so nice. Drunk lady kinda ruined half the night for most of the people there on Valentine’s Day.
Unique cave room gave me high hopes. Service was exceptional. My husband ordered lobster bisque for an appetizer, and fortunately, our waiter let us know that a similar sauce comes with his seafood medallions, so he may want to order a different soup. So, I ordered lobster bisque and he ordered French onion. Little did we know that the same lobster bisque was poured over my husband’s medallions! For the price of our meals $$, I don’t think getting a freshly made sauce is asking too much. Using soup to cover the medallions seemed lazy and cheap. Risotto was meh, Chicken piccata was average. The spinach side dish was the best part of the meal.
Food was really good
Air quality very bad, poor ventilation with flaming steaks,
We stayed too long for the liking of the staff. Rude looks from servers, angry glare from manager on way out.
Not going back
Good food, neat experience. Can't go wrong.
Due to a move, I have not been able to eat at this favorite restaurant for over 25 years. Despite the extensive remodeling, I was ecstatic that the original cave room and exquisite menu was unchanged. Bravo!
Food was good a little bland. Service was very slow. From the time ordered drinks to time of getting appetizer was over 40 mins. Then we had to inquire about how much longer it would be to get the main course. Lovely dark environment as far as atmosphere though.
We were there to celebrate my wife's birthday along with her very best friend. I had the bone-in ribeye, my wife had the steak diane, and our friend had the night's special which was a 6 ozs. filet and a 6 ozs. lobster tail with garlic mash and asparagus The food was excellent and the drinks were good, however we felt the server could have been a bit more attentive. I also did not like the fact when he was teliing about the specials without mentioning what the prices were. To top it off when the leftovers were packed away, the bus boys just scrap it all into the container rather than placing it neatly. They did comp. my wife an ice crfeam dessert for her birthday. Hopefully on our next visit, all the negative aspects will be gone!
Top notch food and service! A favorite to celebrate our anniversary!
The food was delicious and the service was good. Definitely a unique decor. Only complaint is that it can get a little loud in the room with the bar so close to the dining area.
The steaks were excellent and the calamari has the right mix of crispy outside and soft inside.
We thoroughly enjoyed our meal. The seafood medallions were outstanding as was the steak Diane. The service was attentive but not intrusive. We had an altogether lovely experience.
Gus and his staff were outstanding
