Cafe Gratitude - Larchmont
Our waitress was an absolute pill. Seems like the kind of person who hates her job. Unfortunately, she was the least of our worries.
My quiche was not a quiche. I guess it was a fritatta. But besides that, it was not flavorful. It was rubbery and tasted like it came out of a frozen foods box.
My cinnamon roll was probably worst cinnamon roll I have ever had the displeasure or eating.
And the rest of my party of 3 were equally disappointed with their meals.
Never coming back.
Cafe Gratitude used to be my favorite vegan restaurant. They were a scratch kitchen, even making their own almond milk, and their focus truly was on health and creating genuinely healthy, delicious, whole food recipes. Sadly, this is no longer the case. They have jumped onto the greed bandwagon and have changed up their menu, eliminating healthy (and popular) items and replacing them with UNhealthy and downright dangerous canola oil, preservative-laden and processed items while proclaiming them to be healthy.
For example, the chickpea frittata no longer has chickpea flour but instead a processed item called "Just Egg," which contains water, mung bean protein isolate, expeller-pressed canola oil, 2% dehydrated onion, gellan gum, natural carrot extractives (color0, natural flavors, natural turmeric extractives (color), potassium citrate, salt, soy lecithin, sugar, tapioca syrup, tetrasodium phosphate, transglumatinase, nisin (preservative).
I would much rather have the old chickpea frittata that contained nothing but chickpea flour and other whole food ingredients!
Cafe Gratitude also now has a deep fryer and so along with all the new processed food ingredients and canola oil, there are plenty of oil/fat infused menu items to add insult to injury.
This feels like a huge betrayal and I will never return to Cafe Gratitude again. Their sister restaurant is Gracias Madre and I have great concern over what unhealthy changes are occurring there, as well. I will certainly be in touch with them with my questions.
If you are looking for a truly healthy, vegan restaurant, it is no longer Cafe Gratitude.
Loved everything about café gratitude! The Brussels sprouts were incredible as well as the hummus with focaccia bread.
With all the great Vegan fare in LA, I've never been a fan of Cafe Gratitude - and this return trip reminded me why. It's never a terrible experience, but none of the food stands out as particularly tasty or creative and the service is disinterested and dismissive every time I visit. It's a mystery to me why this chain continues to be so popular. Give me Sage Bistro, Crossroads Kitchen or even Real Food Daily any day over Gratitude!
Way to loud
My absolute favorite restaurant. Every detail is curated for a warm, loving, delicious experience.
Recommend to vegan friends. I was not impressed with the food, but the desert was lovely!
The server was not attentive. The portions were quite small for the price, however the meal was good tasting and well prepared.
I’ve been here many times before so I am familiar with their menu and set up. I made a reservation for 5:15pm which is before the dinner crowd; and their try the DineLA menu. Sure enough the restaurant was pretty empt with only two tables occupied on the patio and one inside and yet somehow the service was super slow. The waitress was nice but slow and inattentive.
Also there were hidden charges outside of the pre fixe DineLA menu which were not disclosed, I felt that was sneaky and not appreciated.
The portions for the main dish were super small, not the usual portion so I also feel this was not worth the value and somewhat shady.
Also they have a B rating per Yelp?!!? No thanks!
Always love it here - good service and solid vegan food
I have specific food allergies. Cafe Gratitude has a menu which lists all ingredients for each of their food items. This was the easiest and least painful way I have ever ordered food. Their understanding and willingness to help work with my allergies was commendable and made the ordering experience a breeze
Not sure what was going on Saturday night, but I had had a reservation set 3 days in advance, it had pushed about 30 minutes the day before but had always been on the books. Nonetheless, there wasn't a table ready when we arrived, we were sat outside on a fairly chilly evening and while it was under the heater, a few of our party were sat right next to where a draft was clearly coming in. As we were the first party seated outside, there seemed to be zero reason to seat us in this particular area. Our food also arrived over an hour after we ordered. My party watched (and joked) about how several other parties had sat down after us, eaten and left by the time our dishes even arrived.
We love the idea behind Cafe Gratitude and the food is always good, but $100 for two black bean burgers, a mucho bowl, a beer, and a kombucha is pretty steep.
Alfredo, our server, was amazing!!! Love this place, their food, service, space is awesome, creative and perfect!
The 2020 menu just isn’t as good. I love Cafe Gratitude and frequent this spot (1-2x/week) but the new dishes are disappointing and dishes that I really liked from last year are gone now.
Nice, positive vibes.
The food is delicious. I with there was a Cafe Gratitude on every corner - or better yet - closer to my house. Come to Los Feliz!
Beyond great. Wish I lived near cafe gratitude. I would be a regular. Food was so great. Even my very non vegan. Family members loved. The food. We left so happy and the service was fantastic. Can’t wait to come back when in La. !!! Desserts are outstanding. As is the other food.
Lovely experience and service! Food was so delicious.
Dana W. was a lovely and attentive waitress. Any questions we had she would go and ask for us since it was our first time and we were taste testing and inquiring about ingredients. We loved it!
This is my favorite place to eat out. I only wish they had one closer on the east side but I am happy they have one downtown. The whole bowl has been my go to for many years now. I have a hard time moving on from it. 💛
Whatever you do, eat the kelp noodles. And the bowls are freakin' amazing.
Portion size was small for my entree. Wine pour was smaller than usual and dessert was overpriced. I used to love this place.
I arrived and greeted promptly, then seated. Had the spicy temphah wrap and side salad and my guest had a big salad. We both had cold pressed juice. She also had a chocolate tuffle. Good experience.
Absolutely loved the calamari. Different burst of flavor as you continued to chew. You should offer cooking classes. I wish I knew how to cook vegan.
Their nachos with (mushroom) carnitas! That's all you need to know!!!!
Our server Emily was so delightful we wished she could have joined us!!! We loved every item we ordered - and we ate A LOT!!!
They've changed their menu and I think it's been better balanced in the past. The vibe at Rose St is much more welcoming than Larchmont and I haven't noticed that in the past. Our server was great but clearly overworked while other employees stood around. Seems like it would be more in character for everyone to do whatever's needed to get food to tables and cleared in a timely manner. They appeared to be understaffed at least as far as waitstaff and the morale did not seem good.
I love Cafe Gratitude! The food is always great. It can tend to be a little pricey since it is all organic but I’m OK with that. The falafel were very flavorful! We also had the kelp noodle pesto salad and it was so good!
Awesome place and perfect for that vegan coworker or friend
always great food and relaxed outdoor patio makes it really comfortable to connect with freinds
Service was great. Food was even better. I will definitely be going back.
Food is good but overpriced. Service was really slow.
Really healthy pure vegan food and drinks near Melrose!! Delightful ambience and such a welcoming place.
Bus boy drop a tray of cutlery right next to me and it all feel on glass and metal causing a very disturbing and scary sound. I thought it was an earthquake! got spitting headache thereafter. Told waitress and expected at a minimum an apology and a complimentary dessert- but nothing!
Ruined my dining experience. event equated to Poor customer service
Another great meal at Cafe Gratitude. The nachos were excellent as was the curry bowl I enjoyed. Great and friendly service as well. Any negatives? The key lime pie tasted like wall paper paste. The only reason you would know it had any lime in it was the small sliver of fresh lime on the top. Ugh ...
Not sure what is happening with this location but the food quality is terrible compared to their Venice location.
I ate here a few years ago and it was incredible and I’m not a vegan. I was so impressed with the melted cheese on my panini and the ceasar dressing was divine. This time around, not so much. Ordered a black bean burger with cheese and it had some neon orange paste slathered on, no warm melted goodness. The burger tasted just like black beans were mashed and pressed into a round patty. No flavor. The ceasar was made with a
lettuce which is too flimsy for the heavy dressing. Last time it was made with kale and it worked perfectly. They changed many things on the menu and not for the better. We did have the buffalo cauliflower which was delicious, but everything else was incredibly meh.
Such a fun vibe, great people, amazing food...It is one of my favorite places to go!
Superior and creative food choices. Lots of options for all palates. Vibe is chill but there is sometimes a Hollywood vibe as well.
