Cafe Ginger - Uptown
The food was very good. The service was adequate. There were 3 of us on a Friday evening. The place was empty. While the food tasted good, I was disappointed that the portions tended to be small, even though the prices are higher. We ordered a couple of appetizers, and then 2 entrees. Since it was three of us, the waiter brought an extra rice. When the bill came, they had an additional charge for the rice. Also, I requested some fried noodles for my soup. There was an additional charge for these too, even though most chinese restaurants provide these with no charge. I wouldn't have minded the additional charges on both of these items if our waiter would have at least mentioned that they charge for these items.
In all, there was nothing so special about Cafe Ginger to bring me back anytime soon.
Valentines...we were hungry and waitress was very busy, not too much attention but it’s ok, we understand it was V day. We ordered our food and dumplings for appetizer, however our rolls were all brought and dumplings way later, we were too stuffed to eat them, barely tried them and no apology and charged anyways. Since we were not going home afterwards we couldn’t even take them...sadly they were waisted.
A bit crowded Val Night, but they did better than expected.
The server was friendly but inexperienced. The seafood soup was excellent and the beef quality is better than most Chinese restaurants. I did not care for the brown sauces on our dishes.
Cafe Ginger is the rarity of an Asian cuisine restaurant with both terrific food and a lovely atmosphere. (The restaurant is beautifully decorated). The menu is broad with sushi as well as Chinese dishes, some traditional and some more innovative specials. The shrimp stuffed egg rolls and shredded duck apps were terrific. Special fried rice was fresh and the special lobster tail stir fry was quite good. There is a wine and spirits list with good options (not bargains, but decent drinking). Capable service.
The service was not up to the usual standard. Not used to asking to orfer or for a drink refill. Complimentary dessert was (frozen) tiramisu...good intentions.
Food is good but overpriced. Though service was good this time, it has been poor several times in the past. At best, service is spotty. The prior time it took 20 minutes to pay with my gift card. Once they served main course with the appetizers and did not give us serving spoons or even plates for the main course. I have found management unresponsive to any comments. I was using the last of my gift card but will not return.
We were seated 25 minutes past our reservation. Then it took another 25 minutes before we saw our first waiter. Very disappointing experience. They brought out our appetizers and didn’t give us plates to eat from. Another 15 minutes later we were able to flag someone down to bring us plates.
we really enjoyed the food as well as the atmosphere of the Galleria area as someone who was looking to explore different areas and cuisines of Houston.
Nice neighborhood restaurant on Post Oak within walking distance of major hotels in the area.
I've been several times before and have always rated highly; however, the last few times have been disappointing. On our last visit, they didn't have many of the wines offered on their wine list and the same for some dessert items. The food is always tasty, but even the usual excellent customer service was lacking. Not sure what is happening.
The service is 5star! The food is all great. A great place to meet with friends, or have a romantic date.
AIR CONDITIONING ON IN THE RESTAURANT, 60 DEGREES OUTSIDE, EVERYONE WAS COLD. THE STAFF DID TURN THE AC OFF WHEN WE MENTIONED IT TO THEM, HOWEVER IT CAME BACK ON AFTER 20 MINUTES. GOOD FOOD AND SERVICE, GREAT HAPPY HOUR PRICES,,,,,,,
Lovely elegant Chinese cuisine. Beautiful menu with unusual choices and gracious service. Would definitely re-visit !
Fantastic, warm, friendly, with great service and even better food. Great menu options and all were perfect. Highly recommend no matter your taste buds - meat, seafood, or vegetarian.
We were very disappointed in the quality and quantity of our dish. We had shrimp and eggplant and there were very few pieces of each and not much taste.
The service was slow . Had to wait for attention through out the evening . Over all food was good but some of it was over lathered with sauces and not as flavorful as I would have expected from a restaurant of this caliber .
Food was average, with nothing special. It was also presented lukewarm and cooled off on the plate, including the soup. Nothing to write home about.
Only disappointment for first time ever at this restaurant was the cold rice.
Upscale ambience, standard menu items, well executed.
Everything was very fresh and tasty. Seven of us sat at a round table and had a wonderful time.
The food was fantastic. And fast.
Food was pretty good. Price was very reasonable..$120 for 4 people. Our waiter was young, so inexperienced. The green bean platter was awesome.
This place is fantastic! We went for lunch to celebrate my son’s birthday! The food was fabulous and the portions were huge for lunch! Prices were reasonable too. At the end of the meal our waiter served my son a slice of chocolate ice cream which tasted like tiramisu! Definitely going back!
From service to food, everything is delicious and enjoyable.
Thoroughly enjoyed dinner. We were lucky to be there before Happy Hour ended. Selection of drinks and food was plentiful. What we ordered on that menu and also regular menu was delicious.
We will be going back again and we will tell our friends about Cafe Ginger
We eat here about once a week. Great sushi, Chinese dishes are awesome, happy hour prices and selections are really good. Best take out Chinese we’ve found in Houston.
Service and food were great
Happy Hour is a good value and quiet enough to converse (at least at 4-5 PM). Staff is friendly and helpful. Small issue on bill was quickly corrected. We look forward to eating here again.
Always great food and wonderful service!! Consistently a terrific dining experience.
I went there for lunch for the first time this week. I ordered the sushi and sashimi special, which was a bit more expensive than other places nearby. The Chinese food looked really good, and seem to be the more popular choice. My friend ordered the vegetarian option, eggplant, and she’s a regular. Overall, good service and very nice atmosphere. Parking was validated.
We LOVE Cafe Ginger. It is always consistent and the food is so fresh and beautifully presented. This is our favorite Happy Hour in Houston. The soft shell crab is a favorite along with the tuna tartar and any of the rolls. It you decide on the main menu the sea bass is a winner. We have always been happy with all of our selections. Beautiful atmosphere and very helpful servers.
We had a wonderful experience , enjoyed the food and environment . A great day sitting outside and enjoying
Consistent food quality. The servers need to ask if you are finished with something before trying to clear items.
Cafe Ginger is consistently fresh and good. Service is always reliable.
As always, the food was outstanding.
Lunch is a busy and rather noisy time, but we were seated immediately even though we were a bit early for our reservation. After 1 PM the noise level calmed down. The flower tea was good to share and visually appealing with its glass carafe kept warm on a tea light. We especially enjoyed the BBQ eel on rice. Wait staff was so accommodating and allowed one in our party to exchange the soup in the lunch combo for an extra spring roll. Try the spicy shrimp and eggplant entrée! A generous serving of green tea ice cream was plenty to share and not too sweet. The décor is upscale for a Chinese/Asian restaurant, but fun.
