I enjoyed eating dinner here. The chicken mole was absolute delicious! I highly recommend checking this place out. Make sure to try the Gallina En Mole and the Enchiladas Con Mole! Perfect for date night.
Mom in town. Everything was great. Mole is delicious. Waiter forgot our ceviche but glad he did because the dinners are large and filling.
Nice place. Good food and service.
Long a favorite neighborhood place, it has been fun for us to watch this restaurant grow and mature. Food is consistently good. Service is great and neighborhood friendly.
It is a mid-priced Mexican restaurant, but well worth the extra few dollars. The portions are amble and the dishes are flavorful. It is worth getting a reservation if going on a weekend night. They have a small outdoor seating area in the summer, but can be a bit crowded in the winter.
El Grandioso Burrito lives up to its name and typically gives me two full meals.
It had been so long since I had El Tapatio, I was craving it. Didn’t let us down.
Tapatio is a solid choice for a casual neighborhood spot that serves quality Mexican food. The shrimp ceviche and bellas tacos (veggie tacos with grilled mushrooms) were on point. Service was timely and friendly. Overall pretty chill casual vibe on a Wednesday night when we went, probably a little more animated on the weekends. Definitely recommend if you're in the area.
Food was great. More authentic experience. Great service.
Great food, good drinks but too loud. Great place for a group but not a date night on the weekend. During the week this place not as loud
I’ve been here many times and consistently have the same experience. Amazing food, great service, and a friendly staff! The order is always right and comes out super quick. My husband and I LOVE their mole sauce.
What a fantastic time. The staff made us feel like we were part of the family. Very attentive . Enjoyed the food and the margaritas. Even gave us a delicious free dessert.
This is my second time here and it did not disappoint. The chicken enchiladas suizas are delicious as was the margarita! The chicken tortilla soup is fantastic, but a much larger portion than I anticipated, so either make it your meal or be prepared to take some of your entree home. Love the atmosphere here, but it can get a little loud, so not a place for romantic conversations, but great for friends to catch up and not worry about being overheard. Service can be a little slow, but as long as you aren't in a rush, it's okay. Easy street parking and there is a small outdoor sidewalk space in front of the restaurant for dining al fresco. We will be back!
I could eat at tacos for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I love authentic restaurants and this is definitely that!
Always great food, always great service -- a true neighborhood gem with some of the best Mexican food around. If you're looking for something that's a cut above the rest, look no further. Great drinks, fresh ingredients, and wonderful people who work there.
The mole is a must!
Service was SLOW. Wasn’t very busy on a Sunday night, but we barely saw our server. Also a lot of loud children running around.
Great restaurant, always busy. Food is very good, with more than the normal dishes found in a Mexican restaurant.
We go to El Tapatio often. Always solid reliable food and extremely friendly atmosphere - waiters, owner etc. We love it!
Always a great experience!
I've been going here for over 10 years!! The food stays AMAZING and the service remains impeccable!!
Great place. Wonderful staff. The bartenders on Saturday night are the best. Very creative.
The food is outstanding. Especially if your willing to try something besides tacos.
Best Mexican food in Chanel Chicago! Love this place.
El Tapatio was incredibly gracious in hosting us as we ended up with a much larger party than we originally expected. They were really wonderful in arranging the table, and providing outstanding service for our group.
We are regulars and know it can be tough to walk in so I made a reservation. The hostess was a bit dismissive, she seated two couples who arrived after us, before us. We did get seated 10 minutes later but fairly offended by then because she clearly didn’t care. The drink order was wrong.
It was pretty routine afterwards but my wife said she didn’t enjoy it. My guess is it was more of our experience on arrival vs the food. We’ve always loved the food.
Delicious authentic Mexican food! Attentive friendly service. Will return again and again...
Best Mexican food there is in this part of town. Menu is varied but not overwhelming. Portion sizes are large and the ingredients are always fresh. Atmosphere is very relaxed and wait staff and owner, Mauricio, are very attentive. There are many other notable options in Chicago but this is where I go when I want familiar and authentic Mexican.
Amazing hospitality, great food, good vibes!
Had a reservation at 7:15 but had to wait to be seated until a little after 7:30pm. But it was worth it bc we got a table in the back room (less noise). Very friendly staff and food is the best!
This is a neighborhood gem. Don't let the outside neon light dissuade you from trying it.
The food rocked. We sat at the bar. Natalie was our server. She recommended everything we ate and it was crazy delicious. I would rather sit at her bar then at your best table. 😀😀
Great fun place! May be too loud for some, but I think it only made it more fun. The food was tasty, my steak was a bit salty for me, but I still finished it. Will definitely be going back and recommending to others.
We celebrated our father’s 70th birthday at El Tapatio and it was the perfect, festive location with fantastic food and delicious margaritas. Service was excellent. Such a great experience!
Always quality food and margaritas.
There’s no such thing as a reservation at this restaurant. Food is very good but expect a wait regardless of whether you have a reservation or not.
Service was very good. Food was amazing. I just wish we lived closer. Next time we are in the area, we will return.
the food was completely bleh which was disappointing I wanted to love this cute place. even the guacamole was bad.. too much lime. for $50 and a below average mexican food dinner I won’t be back
This restaurant was fine for a get-together of three people. There wasn't really anything memorable about it, however. That being said, I also cannot say anything negative. If I lived nearby, I would most likely dine here now and then; but because I do not live that close, I will probably not return.
Wevtookbour grandson on a Saturday night. The food was very good and there is a very good selection of dishes. The cocktails and drink selection is great. The service was extraordinary. We were greeted by the owner/ manager? And had a wonderful friendly conversation. It was a very pleasant evening. My only negative complaint was that it was noisy.
Best tacos al pastor in the city (but you will never find a pineapple in one of them!)
I have been bringing friends here for over 15 years & nobody has ever been disappointed. Everything on the menu bursts with flavor. Favorites include the plantain enchiladas in an amazing mole, a skirt steak marinated in Dos Equis, and their tilapia salad.
The margaritas are also among the best in the city.
Tapatio in the winter helps me forget how cold it is outside. Tapatio in the summer offers one of those outdoor patios that reminds us why we endure the winters.
I use to love this place, but the last two times I've gone the steak tacos have changed. The meet it chopped up like ground beef. I use to like the chunks of steak in my tacos. The tacos tasted like grizzle.
