Used to be one of my favorites but all four in my party did not like their food. I had the risotto which has always been my favorite. I’m pretty sure it was pre-made and reheated and was very dry. Having dined here for many years I was disappointed.
Jackson was very pleasant but the kitchen was very slow
Nice brunch menu with outdoor seating which was beautiful today. Service was excellent.
First, and most important, Café Dupont is NOT open for lunch. The bar/seating area serves lunch, not the restaurant. To say that the service was lackadaisical would be high praise -- and it wasn't busy or crowded. We waited forever for someone to come over. We waited forever for someone to take our order. We waited forever for out lunch to be served. We waited forever for someone to ask if we wanted dessert. We waited forever for someone to take our dessert order, and we told the waitress that we needed to have it come quickly as we were running out of time. We ran out of time, cancelled our dessert orders, and left. The food is alright, the setting is comfortable and relaxed, but the service is WAAAAYYYYY too relaxed. So, only go if you have more than 2 hours to spare for lunch.
Easter brunch.
The food was under seasoned and bland. Service was amazing though.
A favorite of mine for a long time. Consistently good food and service. Quiet enough for a conversation. Great view from the main dining room. Great place for Sunday brunch and for afternoon drinks. Also has a great outdoor space. Hotel and restaurant staff are very nice and always helpful.
I searched the internet to find a place at/near Dupont Circle that was walking distance from our hotel near GWU and found the reviews for this restaurant ranked very high. We had a delicious meal (duck, and the short ribs) and though we were early customers, we were treated very graciously. The menu was varied and well-priced --hard to choose just one entrée!
We will definitely return!
Very nice. Loved the salmon, lentils entree. Good spacing between tables. Helpful staff
The cafe was closed so we had lunch in the bar, which has a limited menu. The salmon salad was very pleasant and tasty. Good service. I would definitely go back here because it's a great location, just a block from the metro, but it really isn't a restaurant, it's a bar. I was surprised they took a reservation on open table.
Met in the bar to start. The cocktails were excellent and it the view of Dupont Circle and the night life was fabulous. It was pretty noisy, but it was obviously a very popular bar, so this was to be expected. On the other hand, the restaurant was really quiet and intimate. The food was fresh and delicious.
My wife had a hard day and needed a smile, she found one at Café Dupont at the bottom of her martini.
The food and service was very good EXCEPT that they added nearly $100 in food and drink that we did not order. One cheese plate showed up on the bill as two and a glass of wine became a bottle. We were very disappointed overall because of the incorrect charges that did not seem to be genuine mistakes. I doubt we will go back.
Food was cold; we had made a reservation and were seated on time, however, we were told they were behind schedule. We asked for juice and the waiter informed us that there was apple and orange juice but I recalled from a previous visit that they had healthy juices and mentioned it, at which point the waiter went for a small menu with juice bar type combinations. The food was sub-par. I would not recommend this restaurant for breakfast.
Came to Cafe Dupont for Valentine's Day. We were told when we got there was only a prix fixe menu offered tonight, and the kitchen was not making any of the other items. The Prix Fixe menu for $55/person was pretty limited in options, but we decided why not...let's go for it. Unfortunately, the entrees were not very good (we both had the fish, which ended up being a very bland option...should have gone for the venison). The appetizers/dessert were hit or miss (my girlfriend's appetizer was outstanding, components of mine were dry/bland). "Is it possible to have a flavorless chocolate dessert" is not what you want to hear from your significant other on Valentine's Day.
To make things worse, we ended up with a $10 water bill at the end of the meal (the busser at the beginning, who told us there's only a Prix Fixe tonight, also offered sparkling water, we said no thanks still is fine for us...we were unaware that their still/tap were separate).
All that being said, the waitress was outstanding, and took the water charge off our bill. I mostly felt bad for our server (there were 20-25 tables set up for Valentine's Day, and there were maybe 6 couples total). One couple got up and left before having a meal, and one party of 4 ended up leaving as well (didn't want to pay $55/person for dinner).
To add insult to injury, as we walked back through the bar and lounge/booths on our way out of the restaurant (which were packed), we saw people eating the Burgers, Duck, Fries, and everything else offered on the normal menu. Turns out that wonderful menu Cafe Dupont is known for was being offered, but not in the main dining room. Woof.
according to the manager cafe dupont closes at 11am on weekdays. why they then accept lunch reservations is beyond me. we were sat in the bar area, but this is not conducive for a lunch meeting. service was terrible. food was so-so at best.
Both of our entrees were terrible. My superfood salad was watery and tasteless. His salmon with eggs was also tasteless. Our server was lovely, but we won’t be back.
Nice quiet spot (during the morning/early afternoon hours) and great view of DuPont. Service was great, food/beverages were tasty, no complaints, would go again!
Had a great brunch here. Good coffee, great pancakes!
Very nice! Food was good and service good.
The staff is always very professional and helpful- at breakfast, lunch or dinner and the food is always very good.
Service was not as good as usual. The meal was served before the cocktails arrived and an appetizer was never delivered. Could have just been an off day as it was a holiday, so we will be back.
Filet was one of the best I've had over past 10 years. Much better than Charlie Palmer steakhouse in NYC (bottom 5). Made top 5 list for me on Filets. Nice setting at night and large windows showing Dupont Circle. Great experience. Servers were very professional.
Awesome service !
went after a show at Keegan Theater. great experience.
Hotel restaurant but a neighborhood and personal favorite for a number of years because of the location, food, and architectural design of glass walls that allow one to enjoy the Dupont Circle location year round.
Lovely wait staff and bartender.
We were happy to connect with friends for my birthday dinner. The restaurant looked festive. The crab on toast appetizer with carmellized onions on the side was delicious. The rabbit stew with mushrooms was tasty but the dumplings did not add much and seemed heavy.
Nice quiet place to meet up with your adult children. Good variety of brunch food, including smoothies, in a clean, elegant setting. Warm service.
Jackson, our server was very personable and professional. Bar area help was full of bright and helpful souls
We had a great Thanksgiving dinner at Café Dupont. The food was great, and the staff was very attentive without being too intrusive. A great experience overall.
Excellent food and service, we will definitely come back!
My adult nephew was visiting from New York and I wanted to take him to a nice but comfortable restaurant in DuPont Circle. Cafe fit the need. We had eggs Benedict with smoked salmon- outstanding. Service was great as well.
The service and food were wonderful. The atmosphere was comfortable and inviting.
Host (maitre d?) greeted us with a very rude "we don't have any availability". Ok, that's great for your business, but I made a reservation. He made me say my name 3x, pull up the confirmation on my phone, and then consulted his system. And the hostess who was standing next to him the whole time was sympathetic to us.
They found the reservation but said it would be 5 minutes before a table opened up. In the meantime, we saw 2 tables open outside and another 4-6 inside. Which we had no problem pointing out. Eventually he said - let me get the [furthest table away] set for you. Ok great.
We sat and after 10 minutes had to go get someone to wait on us. The poor server looked stressed; he said it was going to be quite a wait b/c they had a couple of large tables. I'm sorry, but you're attached to a hotel/apartment building. If you can't have orders for ~20 dishes around the same time, you've got a failing system. We pleaded with the server and immediately gave him our simple (all eggs) order and asked to get ahead of the large parties.
From there on out things were fine. The food was good and delivered hot. The service was fine. Not enough to make up for the initial issues though.
The best French toast EVER!!!!!! The server was extremely friendly.
Excellent service but food was very disappointing. Went there for dinner on a Friday night. Ordered salmon and red snapper main courses. Both were tasteless and were no better than microwave meals. Ordered drinks but no complimentary bread was provided. As DC natives, can say that there are far better options in the Dupont Circle area.
Food is very good, well-presented and fresh. The servers did their job with courtesy, friendliness and (even) good-mannered charm. PLUS...it's s good value!
Great Sunday brunch! Excellent coffee and awesome bloody Marys! Wait staff was very attentive too!
Service was very good . They checked on us but wasn't over bearing. We had dessert and drinks . The dessert was very good .
Good food. Service a bit slow. Need bug spray if you sit outside
