Host (maitre d?) greeted us with a very rude "we don't have any availability". Ok, that's great for your business, but I made a reservation. He made me say my name 3x, pull up the confirmation on my phone, and then consulted his system. And the hostess who was standing next to him the whole time was sympathetic to us.
They found the reservation but said it would be 5 minutes before a table opened up. In the meantime, we saw 2 tables open outside and another 4-6 inside. Which we had no problem pointing out. Eventually he said - let me get the [furthest table away] set for you. Ok great.
We sat and after 10 minutes had to go get someone to wait on us. The poor server looked stressed; he said it was going to be quite a wait b/c they had a couple of large tables. I'm sorry, but you're attached to a hotel/apartment building. If you can't have orders for ~20 dishes around the same time, you've got a failing system. We pleaded with the server and immediately gave him our simple (all eggs) order and asked to get ahead of the large parties.
From there on out things were fine. The food was good and delivered hot. The service was fine. Not enough to make up for the initial issues though.
Excellent service but food was very disappointing. Went there for dinner on a Friday night. Ordered salmon and red snapper main courses. Both were tasteless and were no better than microwave meals. Ordered drinks but no complimentary bread was provided. As DC natives, can say that there are far better options in the Dupont Circle area.
Great location and connected to a beautiful hotel. We had a great table by the window but that was about where the excitement ended. Took forever to get drinks, which were not good and made by the bartender/server in a somewhat empty restaurant. Food was good but not amazing and the wine was nice but they just poured it. The Maitre'd took our drink order and checked on us, bartender/server took our food order, another "manager" delivered the food and then another random server brought us the check and closed out. And they're weren't busy... Overall pretty disappointing.
I was looking for a place to eat breakfast before going to church. I made a reservation the night before, but other couples and individuals were able to be seated quickly at 9 AM. I had the eggs benedict with Virginia ham, cappuccino and hash brown. The service was prompt and attentive. The hash browns were more like enormous, seasoned potato cakes than the fried, crispy variety. Orange juice was not in the menu, but you can ask for it. I was able to enjoy a relaxed breakfast and get out in 45 minutes. I will return to try the other items in the breakfast menu.
My 2nd time at the cafe was worse than the first. I was alone because I was in DC on business so I requested a table outside so I could people watch while dining. I was promptly seated (best part of entire experience) and waited almost 15 minutes for a server to say hello and get me a menu. If was clear from that point that my server had a few large tables inside and I was her only outside customer. I ordered my entire meal and requested my wine to be served with my main course; red wine which I love with duck, which I ordered. After finishing my starter, I had to wait too long for my server to bring my duck, but it was finally delivered by another member of the staff, sans the wine. After another 10 minutes of playing with my food (because I wanted my wine with the duck), my server came to ask how I was doing. I reminded her that I needed my wine and she simply walked away to get it; no recognition or apology for not having it delivered sooner, which I was annoyed by. I never saw her again after that. I hailed someone for my bill after another long period of waiting. Paid and left. To sum it up, great food, terrible service. Quite disappointing.
The food was good, but the service was not great. One of the meals came out 15 minutes after all the rest and no one ever mentioned that there would be a delay. The waiter seemed uninterested in serving us. I would like to mention that the staff assisting the waiter was very kind and deserved the entire tip.
Not a creative menu, but definitely something for everyone. Good mix of meat and non meat dishes. Slightly pricey for the quality of the food. This place is not out-of-this-world-amazing, but it was fine for a dinner outside on the patio with a friend visiting from out of town.
To be honest I cannot comment on the food or much else as we left before eating. I had resevered a table for my wife and I for Mother's Day as I wanted to be near Dupont Circle. On entering, they knew nothing of my reservation and just told us to sit anywhere. The outdoor seating was nice enough but the items on the menu were not what I had planned for a what i was hoping to be a "Nice Mother's Day" dinner. We ended up walking accorss the street and having dinner at another place. Not sure why they use OpenTable to book reservations...
We chose this place based on TA reviews of places "Near Me Now". It is in a High-end, Dublin-based small chain of hotels. Overall, the food was VERY good and the service was VERY bad. I left a 10% tip (the equivalent of "stiffing " for me) and a note to the server.
On the upside, when I expressed my disappointment to the bar tender in the Dupont Bar (affiliated with and adjacent to the restuarant) where we went after being unable to tolerate the continuing wait for service to obtain coffee & dessert, we were "comped" Irish coffees. The hotel does seem very sensitive to customer service.
I would return to this restaurant and consider staying in the hotel next time I'm in DC.
