Very good food, quite reasonably priced food and wine, charming French bistro ambiance, but extremely noisy.
Our Thursday night dinner was amazing!
Food was great, service was great also.
Will definitely be back for more.
Good food, loved the environment, good wine and service
Café Du Soleil is always a good reliable standard in the neighborhood and my daughter's absolute favorite.
Great food, great staff, would recommend for every occasion from a quick bite at the bar to a fancy date night meal and everything in-between.
Made reservations on a Friday night for four of us. We all loved the food - escargot, beet and goat cheese arugula salad, ribs, salmon, beef bourguignon, creme brûlée. Service was wonderful. We were thrilled to have found this spot.
Great neighborhood restaurant. We had an excellent brunch there with quick and friendly service.
Brunch. Little touches are missing. Did not serve fresh squeezed orange juice or fresh pepper. The croques are served on a thin bread that might even be plain white bread. Thicker, crustier bread would have been better. Those little differences in my mind go a long way from separating a “fine” meal from an excellent one.
These questions are absurd. The Cafe du Soleil is a really pleasant neighborhood place. It has good bistro food. It's quite French, food, ambiance, staff. It's on Broadway. There's no view of L'Opera or Lago Maggiore. I'm not interested in handcrafted cocktails, so I don't even know if they have them. The outdoor dining is OK, but then, again, it's on Broadway.
The staff is friendly, professional and efficient - and French. The food is good bistro fare. They have eggs of various sorts until 4:00 PM. The ceilings are high, so the noise level, even when crowded, isn't intrusive. I highly reccomend it!
Great neighborhood feel and staff goes out of its way to accommodate special needs. Food is excellent bistro food and very reasonably priced. I'll be back (again)!
This is a secret gem on the upper west side. The food is delicious, authentic French cuisine, with attentive, friendly service. It is a great place for a quick meal, or a leisurely evening with good food and a bottle of wine.
The $30 snapper filet was overcooked to the point of looking like strange building material -- it could have been styrofoam chips or wall insulation, really -- brittle and dry and hard. Revolting. Ditto for the salmon filet, which was requested "medium" but was served hard as a rock. A request for an appetizer-sized half-portion of mussels was flatly denied by the server. Finally, the restaurant is LOUD and cramped. Avoid.
Excellent! Many restaurants you like go downhill. Cafe du Soleil has done the opposite and gone uphill. We first started coming here (we live in the neighborhood) nearly ten years ago. At that time the menu was a little dull, the food just okay, and the noise level was terrific -- very loud music with people screaming to be heard. Eventually we gave up on it except for the occasional brunch.
We went back again recently for dinner and found a completely new and interesting menu, extremely delicious food, and a very pleasant, conversation-friendly ambience. Both the gently dressed beet salad and the rich onion soup were done perfectly. My coq au vin had a fresh but deep red wine sauce, as it should, and my partner's burger was, he said, perfect. Frites were also perfect. Best, really, was that as in a European restaurant, where the emphasis is on food and friendship and not on an "exciting" atmosphere, we could hear each other well enough to talk about how good the food was and about anything and everything else that comes to mind over a delicious dinner.
We had their Chicken for Two - dry and dreadful. Service good, ambience great
Food could be better
Lovely brunch spot kind of hidden on the upper realms of the Upper West Side! The crepes are great, though my chicken crepe had a couple pieces of bone in it... otherwise I'd give 5 stars. The omelettes are fantastic, and brunch cocktails are only $6!
Love this restaurant. I live in the neighborhood so it is a local favorite. I bring many friends and family here!
Rustic ambience, good food, friendly but laid back service. Just what we needed that day.
A great neighborhood spot with a wonderful staff. The classics are well prepared. I could eat here every night.
This restaurant has a colorful, french, playful atmosphere and roomy interior. The service is attentive and able. The food was too salty, but I would ask that very little salt be added to my food in the future. As I enjoyed lunch at the restaurant I would return.
The food was great and we ate in 40 mins on a Saturday night pre-theater. It was a little bit to loud but the atmosphere is great
Always a fun place serving very good food. Especially enjoy their Thursday special events.
It was a wise choice for a birthday dinner. The host was wonderful, the servers excellent and the food delicious. Loved the French Cosmo! I would highly recommend this neighborhood gem for anytime eating and enjoyable French cuisine.
Well-priced for Manhattan. Generous portions, very good food, attentive service.
Love this neighborhood bistro.
The food is very good and a friendly ambience.
The food is very good here, but the service this last time was horrible. After taking our order we never saw our waiter.
Great cozy neighborhood cafe
We love this place - this is the first time we've had a problem with our orders, just couldn't get the toast we ordered until we asked several times. I stress, this is unusual: probably due to the full house during Christmas week.
Brunch on New Years day was an average good experience. The pancakes are very good. The croque was a little dry but tasty. The waiter was very friendly but hard to find at times. It was good but nothing spectacular. A B rating at best.
Excellent food, great menu. Went for brunch on New Years. The one critique I have was the service. The host was great and friendly, as were the gentlemen refilling coffee (we got so many refills, which was awesome). Our waitress however was not so great. One of my friends joined us a few minutes late. When we were ordering she had a question and then decided she needed another minute. The waitress was super pushy and rude about my friends question. My friend asked to put our orders in and then come back in a minute for her. The waitress said no, which I comepletly understand why. But my friend said just come back in a minute. She didn’t. 15-20 minutes later she kept walking by us, ignoring us. We finally waved her down and put in our order. She never checked on us after the food was served and took forever to bring the bill and even longer to ring us up. It dampened what other wise was a great brunch.
Food was superb though. I had the baked short ribs. My other friends had the salmon croque monsieur and the veggie one, which were both great. Another got the crepes Italian which were great but a smaller portion.
Overall recommend, hopefully our waitress is in a better mood if you have her.
I have been here several times and I have to say the service on New Year's Eve was horrendous. The cafe was cold and when we asked to put the heat on they refused. Food was thrown on the table and we felt rushed out even when the restaurant was 1/2 empty and there was no one waiting.
Enjoyed brunch while escaping the cold in this quaint spot! Delicious coffee and food — highly impressed
One of our favorite spots. Amazing French food. Fresh ingredients. Always good. Friendly staff.
Very noisy place, difficult to hear what the person across from you is saying. But nice atmosphere and friendly staff.
Omelet was excellent as was latte. Good ambiance. Would go again.
Very nice local French bistro, with good ambiance, food and drink. My only complaint is the noise level, which is very high.
Very good French food in a cafe setting. Too noisy for the older set. Good service and terrific authentic French selections.
Pleasant experience! Good food and excellent service. Only problem was the noise level which made conversation difficult at times.
Cozy afternoon nice ambience and good food and cocktails!
I have lived in the neighborhood for many years and have often been to Cafe du Soleil. Went the other night with a friend and had a tasty dinner of moules frites over quiet conversation. A great neighborhood place with a varied menu and always pleasant service. Feels like being in France!
